  1. Hmm, well the thought of space mountain sorta sends shivers down my spine. The same way going in an airplane washroom would. (I literally start shaking as soon as I get in those things!) I know that RM is a Premier coaster, does it use OTSRs (even though I know most of them have gotten an OTSRsectomy)? ~ Dr. Jess "future coaster surgeon" Chan
  2. Yep, thats right, heading down south this saturday. I am going to SFOT and I have heard alot of good news about it. The thing is, I haven't been to many parks other than Playland and Canada's Wonderland. I have mild claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces, being trapped). I haven't had problems with claustrophobia on coasters before (with the exception of the only SLC i've been on and the arrow "sardine can trains"). I know a ride like Mission: Space or Disney's Alien Encounter (or whatever its called) I don't think I could ever do. Runaway mountain in particular is the one I'm worried about the most. Any other tips for me (related to claustrophobia issues)? Thanks.
  3. I know new trains are already in use on the Great Nor'easter. Heard lots of great reviews about that. I'm just wondering, the new system, might be abit of a problem for people with long hair (like me). I mean my hair is like 3/4ths way down my back and I can't imagine pulling a rubber sheet over my head. I'd only do that if I wanted to go bald! Atleast Vekoma is fixing the dreaded ~ Jess "Rapunzel Rapunzel..." Chan
  4. Can I get one that says: "The woman with a million middle names"
  5. I hear that Kong is one of the smoother, more enjoyable SLCs. Plus, my aunt and cousin want to ride it. Flight Deck is just unbearable for me...
  6. Looks like you had a great time! How is Kong and Medusa? I'm going to SFDK in July and I am so excited about those two coasters! Also, do those queue line TV's as I see on Kong, do they play super annoying and repetitive safety videos? Those things tick me off.. ~ Jess "Hong Kong or King Kong?" Chan
  7. Just shows the amount of neglect that place has fallen into...
  8. I thought that B&M, Intamin etc, used spring loaded wheel which are similar to suspensions. Hence why they are so smooth. I know that most people hate rough coasters, but (even though I hate headbanging) I have a feeling that the rough ride that the lack of suspensions provides actually gives some coasters "character" and "attitude". ~ Jess "Hard ride, stay free" Chan
  9. Last time I went to circus circus was like when I was a coaster chicken and my mom hates going to Vegas so I doubt I'll ever get the Canyon Blaster Credit. I rode the inverter once and that was enough to give me nightmares back then... I went back in 2004 and we stayed at circus circus so I get to see the rides everyday basically. That place wasn't so neglected back then, and its sad to see that it's becomming a rundown... ~ Jess "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" Chan
  10. Perhaps on that day you were tired. Or maybe you were hungry or thirsty or something before you rode? Or even not stapled hard enough. Alot of things can affect your G threshold. I am by no means an aerospace medicine expert but I read this article http://aeromedical.org/Articles/g-loc.html It's more for aerobatic fighter pilots but read the "what can I do" section. Some of that can apply for rollercoasters too.
  11. Ah, sorta reminds me of the time when my almost 6'3 uncle tried to cram himself into Mighty Canadian Minebuster and Backlot Stunt Track at CW, ended up with bruises afterwards. I can see that PTC's and Premier Loopers are very unforgiving for taller people. I guess I can add space mountain to that list too. That "launched coaster" must be California Screamin'? It's the only launched coaster in Disney. I have never seen CS so up close before... Anyways, after reading all these TR's of Disneyland and Disneyworld. I really really want to go. I have never been there for all 16 years my life. ~ Jess "It's all Mickey Mouse" Chan
  12. Was that space mountain that you got kicked off for being too tall? That's too bad...Must have been embarassing. One reason I'm glad I'm a whole foot shorter than you. I think that "gender bender" is a male. Great pictures anyways!
  13. Do my school band performances count? If not, then it was Megadeth, Children of Bodom, In Flames, Job for a Cowboy, High on Fire on the Gigantour 2008. That was all the way back in May. ~ Jess "Band geek" Chan
  14. Just look for "Jessica Yi-Xi" Chan, That's me. Feel free to add me but please tell me who you are first.
  15. Well how many of disney's rides wern't made in house anyways? The only ones I can think of right now are Mission: Space (made by some centrifuge company), Rock'N'Rollercoaster, California Screamin', Maliboomer, Matterhorn Bobsleds.
  16. Maybe just an example of censoring advertising from children as disneyland is visited by children so much. Adbusters anyone? Do any other rides at disneyland have any proof of brand? But wait...There is alot of other advertising at Disney parks... Or perhaps this. Advertising is used to make money and sell products. I REALLY doubt kids would want to buy rides. So there's no point advertising a product that most kids would not be buying. EVery how long do you hear: "Mommy! I want a nice shiny super fast Vekoma launched coaster for my birthday please!" ~ Jess "Censorship is overrated" Chan
  17. - To help me face my fear of heights that I've had for almost my entire life. - Good stress relief - I've wanted to be a race car driver or an aerobatic fighter pilot when I was younger but untill I found out how dangerous it was, I was determined to find an alternative - I love fast things in general - My cousins dragged me on behemoth last summer and I was just wanted more after that - I just havea tendency to get obsessed with everything I get into as part of a mental illness I have ( I was diagnosed with ASD at a young age) ~ Jess "Life in the fast lane" Chan
  18. Like father like son! I wish my dad (and mom especially) liked coasters... My mom just thinks they're freaky and a waste of time. dad says he's too old for them. Medieval times looks like a cool restaurant. I've never been there before but my cousins have and they say its good. (infact...I've always wanted to be a stunt actor for shows like that) *Many people at SFMM were wearing Ed Hardy shirts, while having no tattoos at all. This was weird to me....why pay $70 for a t shirt about a legendary tattoo artist while you have no work done yourself?? Ed Hardy seems to be a "trendy" thing lately whether you have tattoos or not. Infact I have an Ed Hardy shirt and I don't have any tattoos....YET! I'm not just wearing it because its "trendy". I know who Ed Hardy is and I know all about him, I actually like his style of art too. * if you are a white guy with no rhythm, please do not try to dance to the music in the queue for Riddlers Revenge. Nobody wants to see that, I promise! It's called freedom of expression lol. But I can understand how you feel. I'm a musician and I can't stand it when people have no sence of rhythm. *The hordes of people at Disneyland didnt get the memo that the economy sucks! Perhaps they're trying to make it better by giving them some buisness? *Besides the space shuttle, X2 has to be one of the most complicated machines ever made. It broke down several times while we were there, and after we stood in line for a hour and forty minutes it quit running for the entire day. Well X2 already is plagued with a tedious loading/checking procedures. The fact that its Arrow's "guinea pig" coaster also contributes to the technical issues. one more thing, because you're breaking away from "traditional" and thinking outside the box, so you can't really predict what's going to go wrong and what's not going to. ~ Jess "Happy 9th birthday to your son!" Chan
  19. Too few trains running, another pet peeve of mine... My local park becomes part of this yearly "fair at the PNE" for 2 weeks and my favourite ride there, Coaster, is POPULAR AS HELL. Both with the locals and tourists. They usually run 1 train not during "fair at PNE" and when it's the 2 weeks that "fair at the PNE" goes for, they run it with 2 trains. The ride comes with 3 trains, and all my life atleast, i have NEVER seen it run with 3 trains. Whenever theres events at Playland/PNE, I sometimes line up for an hour and half or more for that ride but I really love it that much. Plus, not a single ride at Playland has single rider lines nor a fastpass/flashpass system. So everybody has to wait in line. (although I must confess I have "fast forewarded" by saying "I'm a single rider" several times) Queue line jumpers and "spot holding" literally run loose during events at Playland/PNE and still, no enforcement... The only coaster that I remember ever going on that ran 3 trains was Behemoth. ~ Jess "You, must take the A train" Chan
  20. I guess I will just have to bring a picnic blanket or something to sit on while I wait in line. I remember from last year at Canada's Wonderland I have actually seen people do that before in line for Behemoth. They had picnic blankets with them while I didn't. Bench: the ride! Rated level 5 for extreme boredom and no high speeds or unexpected turns! Anyways back on topic. Another one of my greatest pet peeve at my local park is just in general the amount of "neglect" Playland has fallen into. Not enforcing line jumping is one example next to the under/overcooked food. ~ Jess "Bench the ride fan" Chan
  21. Here at my local park, line jumping and rail sitting is not encouraged, but it's not enforced either. Hell, I mean I have to confess I do it so often. Last august at CW waiting in line for behemoth took almost 2 hours. My feet were KILLING ME, what else do you want me to do? Sit on the floor? I sat on the handrails several times and I didn't get told off or anything (by a ride op or security or anyone else in line). I have had my friend (and dad too) hold my spot in a queue while I go buy a drink or use the washroom at my local park and never had anything said either. I avoid doing those things as much as possible now but its just shocking how line jumping and rail sitting is not enforced much anymore here... ~ Jess "Now I'm good again, I confessed" Chan
  22. I have always been afraid of heights and still am to this day (although I'm alot better). Riding coasters actually helped me "put the fear aside" knowing I'm not going anywhere (as in not falling out). I used to watch rollercoaster shows on discovery channel all the time because I was too chicken to get onto big ones. Since my cousins took me on Behemoth last August, I guess that was the beginning of my obsession. Then I started researching rollercoasters on the internet and from library books. Well I was diagnosed with ASD and ADD at a young age so the "obsessive behavior" is not surprizing. I have a tendency to get obsessed with everything I get into it seems like. ~ Jess "Obsessed, but not posessed" Chan
  23. Even though I know at my age that having a G-force induced blackout shouldn't be too serious as long as the extreme force is not sustained too long. But I remembered when I rode Flight Deck at CW 3 years ago, it was my first time ever blacking out. I remembered that right before everything went "lights out", it actually felt really good (like Euphoric almost). But after my vision returned I felt really numb, disoriented, and confused. It was like 40 degrees celcius outside that day and most people were like sweating hot. But I was wearing my jacket, my cousins jacket, and a picnic blanket because I felt so cold on the way home. The numbness, confusion, and coldness didn't go away untill the next morning. I never told a doctor or anything like that (as perhaps I could have had an adverse reation to G force). But I am going to SFOT in 2 weeks and some of the rides there are quite intense. Should I tell a doctor though? ~ Jess "an apple a day keeps the doctors away" Chan
  24. So It seems like Rent-A-Cops are a pet peeve to so many people. I've had one of them disrespect my camera at my local park Playland's Fright Nights. Well I had the camera in my bag and the bag searcher just dumped everything out of my bag onto the inspection table and because he dumped my stuff out from a height, my camera sure took a hit. It still works fine, but still, have some freaking respect for fragile objects! As someone mentioned about 300-400lb guys and girls trying to cram themself into a coaster train (which is like a sardine can to them!). They end up delaying the queue and wasting ride operators' time when the operater tries multiple times to staple them in (or should I say cram). Anyone else bothered by under or overcooked food? Ride malfunctions especially when its your favourite ride? ~ Jess "hope no rides malfunction when I go to Texas" Chan
