Theme Park Review in JAPAN! 2011
Pirouettes907 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hands down the best part of this update! (Then again I might be a little biased!) As always, thanks for taking the time to post the updates in the first place--but thanks especially for including this photo (and ample shots of the escalator ride too!). This absolutely made my day and I can't stop smiling! -
Theme Park Review in JAPAN! 2011
Pirouettes907 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Awesome, awesome update from Universal! I've never been to any of the Universal parks, and I was really impressed with how thorough of a job you did showing just how amazing this place looks (not to mention their collection of Jaws merchandise). Thanks always for taking the time to post updates while you're traveling! -
So while we're on the subject of wooden coasters at SFStL running well again (and yes, I agree, Eagle is running beautifully this year!), I just came back from an evening at the park where I had, without a doubt, the best ride I've ever had on the Boss. By this I mean, for the first time ever for me, there was no jackhammering, no body slamming into the sides, no feeling like my ribs were going to break, no spinal adjustments--it was amazing. Didn't think it was possible, especially from where I was sitting (maybe 5 rows from the very back or so)! Has anyone else noticed this this season?

Hi Larry, Here are some pictures of Six Flags St. Louis's Sky Screamer, some taken by me and some by Big Mike: Taken by Big Mike Taken by Big Mike Taken by me Taken by Big Mike I also have one that's a larger close-up of the ride sign, but I liked Mike's picture of the sign better because it included the tower. Let me know if you want the close-up and also if you need any more of the ride in general! -
Please tell me I'm not the only one who cried a little watching the POV of the Little Mermaid ride. That was pretty much my childhood in ride form. It brought back a lot of happy memories of watching it with my family! I'm normally not a big follower of the Disney parks, but this all looks absolutely amazing and beautiful! The detail on the Little Mermaid ride blew me away. What an awesome, very comprehensive update. Thanks for sharing this Robb! Now if only I had an extra $4000 to blow on one of those suites for a night...

Come spend a couple summers working outside in St. Louis where the heat index is about 105-110 everyday, and then you can handle anything But seriously, definitely don't be afraid to ask for a cup of ice water; as long as it's not a bottle of water you should be able to get it for free. I've also left a park during the hottest part of the day to go home/back to the hotel to take a nap and shower before heading back as the sun goes down. I'll tend to get some dinner at that point too to avoid overpaying for food in the park (not to mention get something that's far more edible than standard park fare). If you're not in a rush to collect credits or anything, it's definitely a refreshing break. And yes, I agree with you on the jeans thing. Jeans and summertime are mutually exclusive concepts in my book!

^ I was going to ask the same thing. Where is everybody? I went just last year and there were no re-rides to be had on the Voyage because it was pretty packed. I'm also glad to hear you liked the Legend a lot. I preferred it over the Raven too, but I must say I put the Voyage above them both. Sorry to hear you had to skip out early, hope you're feeling better by now!

This was amazing! My jaw dropped for pretty much that entire trip report. Incredible stuff and great pictures. I would love to see a roller coaster museum come to fruition someday (although maybe not so much in out-of-the-way Plainview). Thanks for sharing! -
Wow, just wow! Everything about this ride is simply gorgeous! Such a terrific job done with everything, from the queue detail to the factoids about footers in the gift shop (drool) to the zero car to the ride's interaction with the surrounding area. To top it off, it sounds like the ride experience itself is outstanding. Really, really looking forward to riding this someday!

QFT. I agree with what everyone else is saying; that's a lot of attractions to offer. Thanks for sharing this, Laura! And I'm also glad you finally got to ride a Gravitron, seeing as the one at the sketchy San Antonio carnival we went to was too busy hanging out in multiple pieces to operate...not that it would have mattered anyway, since I was too focused on my life flashing before my eyes when we rode the Zipper to really care about the Gravitron. -
Okay, 9 parks is awesome and all, but this: THIS makes this trip report. No lie, it's been over 10 years since I had Curly's Fries, and I still remember them as some of the best French fries I have ever eaten. It was always these and Kohr Brothers ice cream that were my boardwalk staple foods as a kid. So, so jealous of you right now!

Yes, I looked up at my own ceiling when I saw this. Definitely don't think I'd be stepping foot in that room. But... This might just be the best sign picture you've ever included in an update. Also, I just checked the ceiling again. -
How did you spend "The Rapture?"
Pirouettes907 replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
I work in a dog kennel, and was greeted this morning by seven rooms with poop smeared into the floor. One or two rooms is normal for that kind of thing on any given morning, but seven is a record. Obviously these dogs knew what the occasion was and prepared accordingly -

I look at those pictures and read everyone's comments and am reminded all over again why I hate living here in the summer! Very interesting facts in there about Mr. Freeze; I didn't know there was a piece on there that could come out if the ride valleyed. Entertaining as always and it looks like you still managed to have a good time despite the heat. -

All this fanfare for a spinning coaster opening, I love it! Looks like they went all out with the fireworks and... ...what is that on the mid-course brake section? It looks like a fire effect, but it's awfully close to the car...or are those just really, really bright lights?!? Awesome pictures! -

Without a doubt City Museum is the best thing there is to do here in St. Louis, and yes, I have no idea how it is allowed in the U.S., but I'm mighty thankful for it. I was so bummed my work schedule didn't allow me to join you guys that day; looks like it was an afternoon of epic proportions! Always like looking through your reports and looking forward to your take on my home park! -

So this coaster is finally going to happen? Awesome! I've been drooling over the concept art since day one! I agree with others; Wildwoody sounds kind of gaudy. Boardwalk Flyer does indeed have that classic sound to it and, to me at least, connotes that timeless feel of summertime at the boardwalk. I suppose, if anything, it pays homage to the John Allen/PTC Flyer that came down in the 1980s. Whatever the name, I'm looking forward to it! -
Canobie Lake Park Opening Day PTR
Pirouettes907 replied to mrceagle's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's really neat that you were able to see the coaster get topped off in person! I'd love to see something like that someday. I'm really excited about Untamed, not only because it will probably be my first Eurofighter, but because I just absolutely love the bear theme. Something about the bear's face on the front of the train makes me giggle, and I love how they're extending the theme beyond the ride itself, judging by the sign for "Big Bear Plaza" in one of your pictures. Thanks for posting this! -
2.5 hours waiting for the train at SFStL's FrightFest last year (for a line that looked like it should have been 45 mins. max), another 20 minutes sitting on the train after it broke down and then the ride itself, which consisted of some story I couldn't really hear about barbecued pigs (?) while looking at a car exploding, some guys shooting at each other and ending with Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train" blasting. So in all, over 3 hours of my life I will never get back but a lesson well learned.

Only two, although that's about to change. Sidewinder - Hersheypark (Operating 5/11/1991) Flashback - Six Flags New England (Operating 5/5/2000) ^Funny, I got off Flashback wondering how it didn't beat me up.
