  1. I *think* its an issue of foundation vs. steel cost. I assume connecting the columns like this causes far fewer and far less complicated footings to be required since the forces are distributed more evenly. As far as bolting vs rubber pads, my guess is that its a thermal expansion thing. How did you like the coaster? Were they still doing the "First Rider Club" on Sunday?
  2. Today Canobie Lake Park let UNTAMED loose and Theme Park Review was there to cover it for you! This wild coaster is one of only four Euro Fighters in the US and the only in the Northeast. The coasters' 97 degree first drop makes it one of the steepest in the country. The coasters' cars are a custom design with a roaring grizzly on the front. POV Video! Canobie Lake Park opened early on this VERY wet Saturday for the ribbon cutting of their newest coaster, UNTAMED, the fourth in their collection. Located in the redone Big Bear Plaza with a rustic "Adirondack" style and numerous carved bears and other woodland creatures. The buildings and landscaping look beautiful, but I was there for one thing... A sign picture for Larry. I jest (sort of). The park did a great job with the area, this is the one of the nicest stations I've ever seen for a coaster. Here you can see how badly it was raining. As stated above, the trains have a ferocious looking grizzly on the front. For media day, one of the grizzlies was outfitted with a camera, but unfortunately the rain was so severe, it couldn't be used. After a brief ribbon cutting ceremony, the park opened the coaster ... in the POURING RAIN. The first train climbs the vertical lift. Another look at the beautiful station and the awful rain. The first drop (through the trees) Up up up up up... The Loop! The Immelmann! Inline Roll Unfortunately I didn't get a great picture of the helix. It's a great ride and a great addition to the park. Everyone that came off it seemed extremely happy (and very wet)! Congrats to Canobie for running a great event and for the assured success of UNTAMED! Roar!
  3. This looks like an absolutely amazing addition to the park. How was the water temperature?
  4. ^ Good luck with that. The only regret I have with buying a house is now I can't really sell mine, or I'd buy a more expensive one. -Jon, who is great at starting DIY projects, but not so good at finishing them
  5. Chris is correct, and if you are lucky a friendly mod may even go and correct it for you. (send me a PM if you need help)
  6. I really miss the songs written for the parks in the radio commercials of the local parks, Rocky Point (now defunct), and Riverside (now SFNE).
  7. I'm 99% sure I will be registering for the event, but need to see if any of my non-tpr friends want to tag-a-long.
  8. Nope. My other thrill seeking activities (skiing and skydiving) all happened BEFORE I really started coastering. I will NEVER skydive again, and I am ambivalent about skiing.
  9. Poor Misty, I would kill you for that photo too. The randomness of the course seems to make the place much more of an adventure.
  10. TP, I would have been interested in the plans too, but I agree, that shirt is unacceptable.
  11. Fraaaahn, I'll feel that way in a few weeks about you THough I agree, the mini Scandi looks like it was awesome.
  12. ^^ Eric, it took me MANY rides to notice him. Great report Chuck! I have to agree that SFoT is a great park. On of the things was how clean the park was, even with the huge crowds that were at the park that day. The weird layout, and oddly run food service (even though the park was packed, it appeared that none of the food servie started cooking until noon, the lines never recovered.) dropped it a few pegs for me.
  13. With or without copious amounts of Piers, I voted for new hotness. My want of hotness is more white (or in this case black) space. Lots of things seem all jumbled together, especially in the header. I think some more spacing would make everything much more readable. The header of the forums seems much less crowded and thus visually pleasing.
  14. ^^ Ryan, I love all the not-so-sly Gabba Gabba references!
  15. I cannot imagine blowing up that many balloons, Very epic!
  16. I copied TP and modified it Austria Belgium Canada Cayman Islands Denmark England Finland France Germany Hungry Italy Mexico Monaco Netherlands Norway Spain Sweden Switzerland USA Vatican City Wales
  17. It looks like a great ride! I am shocked at how quiet it is!
  18. Great report Jason! That's an interesting take on the Windseeker. Have your friends ridden a starflyer to know how they compare? I'll never forgot how freaked I was when Larry & Chuck pointed out that I didn't belt myself in Tivoli's.
  19. ^It sounds like you had a really great day. I'm very envious, I usually end up with miserably crowded days .
  20. I just wanted to post the criteria for the contest again, that way those of us that are voting have an idea of what the contestants were supposed to do:
  21. Nope, you can have any multiplier be it positive or negative of g's? The "g" is a unit of measurements just like an inch, foot or meter is for length, so limiting the "force" to -1g would be completely arbitrary. For the record, I did not like the EXTREME airtime hill, I prefer floaty air over getting slammed upward into the restraint.
  22. Despite it being miserably humid (notice how we never dry throughout the day) this was an absolutely amazing day. A great park, and a great group to hang out with. I miss you guys!
  23. Was it just me or did the special 1.5 hour epsiode contain a special extra half hour of commercials. I felt like I was pressing the skip button far more than I usually have to.
