Who cares? The same applies for credits. Some people count certain coasters as credits, others don't. There's no real definitive rule saying what counts as a credit and what doesn't. Inversions are the same way. An element that one person considers an inversion, another person could see it as an overbank. -

I thought Kennywood didn't renew it's Garfield license? Wouldn't that mean they have to re-theme Old Mill eventually? Unless they pay a royalty fee for using Garfield, I guess. -

Maybe the sign means a terrain double down, double down designed in that certain way, or something else? Phantom has a double down also. -

Not only that, but it would have an airtime hill instead of a overbank! Your post was my thoughts exactly. -

I remember Maverick being leaked the night before, so who knows. Probably depends on the park and who's in charge of the info. -
Darien Lake is a cool little park! I went there for the first time this May and definitely plan on returning next summer. Nice pictures!

I'm wondering if they are going to drop the price of the already $299 80GB model. I caved in and bought it, but Im not buying another one for a few years. They changed enough this year from '09 to convince me to get it, and Troy Polamalu on the cover only made me want it more So far Im impressed, the graphics are INSANE and the gameplay feels a lot smoother. Yeah, they did make a lot of changes, but it's still not different enough from 09 to warrant me spending $60 on it. Maybe when it's $40 or $50 I'll buy it, but there's just too many games coming out within the next 6 months or so that I want to save my money for. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Assassin's Creed II Batman: Arkham Asylum Splinter Cell: Conviction MAG God of War III Gran Turismo 5 Forza 3 Dead Rising 2 NHL 10 Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 Left 4 Dead 2 Mass Effect 2 Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Anyway, for those who haven't heard, Fable III was announced today. It's slated to come out during holiday season 2010. Fable II was really fun, can't wait for this one. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/press/2009/0819-fable3.htm

Darien Lake, Anyone?
FeelTheFORCE replied to xVicesAndVirtues's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was there in May and everything was up and running. Now, some coasters didn't open until the evening, like Motocoaster, and Boomerang, which are in the back of the park, but that was because of lack of staffing because school wasn't out yet. You shouldn't have any problems now. You should also easily get all the credits in a couple hours at the most. -

Yeah, but the funny thing is, all the while SOB was closed and it's status unsure, the queue spiel was still playing. You could CLEARLY hear it from Flight Deck's line. They didn't care to shut that off, which I'm sure confused guests also. -

I rode Phantom's Revenge just a week ago. The only reason I even noticed the slight jerk was the trip report that was posted to the index soon after the park opened this year. Having never ridden the Phantom before the reprofiling, I really don't even find it worth draw attention to. Like I already said, it's not completely terrible, it's just an inconvenience that disappointed me. It's already been confirmed that they're fixing it for next year, so why discuss it anymore? Worse than Vortex? not by any stretch of the imagination! That transition actually hurt. Maybe that was just because the OTSRs cut me off at the neck. Idk. Which is why I said "ALMOST." Please read ALL of my posts and everything in them first. -

Yeah that sucks. I really liked Swing Around and was hoping it would return someday like the Bayern Kurve. As for King Kahuna, I've never been on it, or a top spin in general for that matter. I keep saying that one of these years I will ride it, I'd better do so soon if it's still there next year. Also, I guess season passes for 2010 are practically confirmed. In this article it says "This fall, Kennywood will begin offering season passes for the first time, Borman said." -

I decided not to buy "Roster Update '10" (aka Madden) this year. There are just too many great games coming out this fall/winter/spring that I would rather spend $60 on. I think my next game will be NHL '10...can't wait!

Probably each individual local attraction has small increases in attendance, and extra revenue made for that time of year. But I'd be willing to bet if you add them all up and count them as a whole, there is a decent increase in attendance for local attractions. All that added up is POTENTIAL for Kings Dominion, which is the point of advertising. It's up to KD to get people to take their families there instead of maybe a history center or museum. You said all but one family in a span of 10 years of going to races. I don't know about you, but in my book that's NO ONE...except that one family. It doesn't matter what "passes" you own...the same concept/idea applies to all cities that host major events...I've been to a few major events, and my city has also hosted a few...that's "what I'm basing them on." Anyway, I'm done discussing attendance and revenue. -

Because you asked every person at the race if they would be attending Carowinds the next morning, right? Or did you follow each person home to make sure that they weren't going to the park? Don't you just love when people post their assumptions as facts? Its far from scientific or a total consensus but I would say talking to the people around me in the stands and the people in hotels/campgrounds I'm staying at about their plans while on race weekends gives me a pretty decent idea as I've only sat around ONE family who had any plans to go to an amusement park on the same trip, and that was going to Orlando to see Disney World for a few days after attending the Daytona 500. And I have been attending race weekends at several tracks for more then a decade now just to clarify. So did you have anything worth while to add or just trying to be snide little creep about nothing? You keep on insisting that "Races wouldn't attract people to parks." like it wouldn't matter if the race was there or not, the same amount of people would be at Kings Dominion that time of year. I have to disagree. If that's true, then what's the point of cities making heavily bidding on the Olympics, the Super Bowl, All-Star games, etc.? They do that because it helps the local economy. Major events, such as the ones I just listed, and Nascar races, attract a LOT of people to that area who spend a lot of money. People visit and spend money at places like museums, hotels, restaurants, bars, AMUSEMENT PARKS, stores, malls, and other various local attractions in the surrounding areas. I know races take up a whole day, I've been to a race before. I was saying that, say the race is a Saturday, I'd be willing to bet most families stay around 5 days or so, making a vacation out of it, and go to other various local attractions in the surrounding area like the Thursday before or maybe Tuesday after, whether that's an amusement park or not. DBru is right, though. 150,000+ (sometimes 200,000) people attend these races. How could you possibly say that NO ONE is going to go to Kings Dominion when referring to that magnitude of people. I have Pittsburgh Steelers season tickets, have gone to EVERY home game since Heinz Field opened in 2001, and I know almost everyone (all the regulars at least) in the surrounding 5 rows behind me and in front of me. There's no possible way, even after all these years, that I even have the slightest clue as to what their intentions are before/after the game, what their plans are for those few days surrounding the game, if they just tailgate all day and night and not do anything else, etc. -

I went with a good 5 other people who aren't the slightest bit coaster enthusiasts. It's just somewhere to go to spend time with family and friends. I'm sure if a family is going to the race, they are going to look for other things to do in the area. Coaster enthusiasts or not, practically everyone likes amusement parks. -

Race weekends wouldn't attract people to the park, though. People traveling to the RIR race weekends looks something like this: - Arrive Thursday/Friday - set up camp near track - grill/drink/hoot and holler all day and night. Go to qualifying and first race Friday starting early evening. - Saturday - grill and drink all afternoon in preparation for the race that night. Attend race that evening. - Sunday - leave or if it rained Friday/Saturday attend the re-scheduled race then leave. The track is 30/40 minutes from the park without traffic. If you throw in the race weekend traffic to and from the track its much longer. In my experiences the majority of the people who travel to race weekends will normally just plan on the races. Speak for yourself. People could easily make a long weekend out of it. I went to a Nationwide race in summer of 2008 at Kentucky Speedway and stayed a couple extra days to go to Kings Island. Same concept/idea. -
Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
FeelTheFORCE replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was in the front seat also my first time and saw the drop, but it still caught me off guard because I didn't know what was going to happen. It would have been better if I were in the back, but oh well. At least it's a hell of a lot better than most coasters, that just meander around with nothing to look at... Also, to each his own, but how is an animatronic Imhotep (2 actually) that looks exactly like a real mummy/person moving around "not that good?" If anything, it's some of the best animatronics I've seen on a ride. Meh, can't please everyone...some people are so picky and will still complain NO MATTER WHAT. -

Well, they re-tracked it for this season and that section at the top of the 2nd hill now has a quick jerk that is very inconvenient.
