  1. Screamscape confirmed that Garfield's Nightmare/Old Mill is going to be rethemed in the next couple years: http://screamscape.com/html/kennywood.htm
  2. Read the ride page. It has to do with the theme of the ride: You'll board your boat inside the Crystal Rock Bottling Company and travel through rivers, around an illegal moonshine still and encounter some wild feudin' and fightin'. We still have no clue what they're fightin' over (it could be Whyte Lightnin'), but yer sure to be a part of it! So why was there a box outside of Carowinds that had Whyte Lightning on it? Cross Marketing? Didn't CP have a NASCAR driver there recently? Yeah, but Cedar Point has "important" visitors all the time.

  4. I still don't get where Whyte Lightning plays into this? Now when you go to www.whytelightning.com it will take you to CP's new ride page after a second or so. Also, I like the fact that there's TEN boats! This doesn't look like a long ride, so the capacity might be very good, and the line will probably constantly be moving.
  5. I've seen many, but have yet to experience one. One of these days!
  6. This looks pretty cool! Can't wait to ride it!
  7. Like it or not, CP has certain expectations that come with being one of the highest profile parks on the planet. I'm sorry, but I don't think a new coaster every 3/4 years is asking too much for a place like CP. Now if I was saying Kennywood should be adding a multi million dollar coaster every couple of years, that would be ridiculous, because they obviously are not in the same league as a place like CP, hence the expectations are completely different for a place like that. I'm not saying CP has to have a new coaster every 3 to 4 years or I'll throw a tantrum but I don't think that fans expecting that are asking too much is all. Not to mention there are tons of parks that are much lower on the amusement park food chain that do add a new coaster on average of every 3 to 4 years. So I don't see why that's asking too much of CP. That type of thinking may have been the norm almost 20 years ago but we ARE in a recession(thank you MR. Bush) & CP's attendance HAS been negatively effected by it so there's no sense from a financial standpoint in installing yet another coaster when not many people in their target market(especially Detroit) can even afford to visit the park. I think CP is learning that they can go years without a new coaster & the only ones it will really effect are the enthusiasts who've been spoiled over the years & as a result come to expect certain things of the park that aren't going to happen all the time like clockwork....that's a lesson that certain SF parks could benefit from learning as well. Didn't Cedar Fair and/or Six Flags post positive cash flow for the first time in YEARS not too long ago? I could be wrong. It makes sense, though. Amusement parks can benefit, and in some cases probably are befitting, from this economy. Think about it, there's an amusement/theme park of some sort within a few hours drive of practically EVERYBODY, and why go on some expensive cruise or tropical vacation when you can just take the family to the local Sx Flags/Cedar Fair Park instead and have just as much fun for much less money? I'd be willing to bet a good amount of families have taken this approach the past few summers. Now, I agree about Detroit, and since Cedar Point is technically considered a resort location, it may have suffered some losses, but the same might not be able to be said for other parks.
  8. Yeah, I meant both in ride quality and statistics. I don't think Kings Dominion went to Intamin and said..."okay we want a giga coaster...to lie within an area xx feet long and xx feet wide...OH but it can't be taller, faster, or better than Millennium Force!". I think, given the site by Kings Dominion, Intamin either said "well, here's our design for it...305 feet is the highest we can really go without having to stretch out the footprint needed for the ride" or Kings Dominion gave Intamin a map of the site they wanted to put it on, explained that they'd like a giga coaster, and left the experts to the rest. After all, Drop Zone/Tower is taller than Power Tower. It suspiciously seems like they did, though, that's the thing. Heaven forbid anything new built is taller and faster than a coaster at their flagship park. Also, as Chuck said, Drop Zone was built by Paramount, NOT by Cedar Fair. That's like saying Kingda Ka is taller than TTD, two different parks and two different companies. According to the animations, Intimidator looks like it will have only 8 cars per train...Millennium has 9. Maybe that has something to do with it? Also, perhaps the newer train design is a bit lighter as well...even if it did have 9 cars?
  9. ^ I agree with what you're saying, and don't think people should automatically assume a new coaster is being built in *insert year here* just because it's been so many years. I think Cedar Point put that in peoples' minds by building MF in 2000, W in 2002, and TTD in 2003.
  10. ^ Yeah, it's right next to Raptor.
  11. I remember writing that, man that time went fast! I don't want to go back. Oh well, at least I have a really nice schedule. Looking forward to May of 2010 when I can look back on this post and ask myself where that time went.
  12. Fahrenheit with no magnets and just a chain was roughly $12 million. Now Maverick on the other hand, uses LSM magnets and was $21 million. Now I realize that Maverick is longer also, but $9 million longer? In short, steel cables are much cheaper.
  13. The would be pretty cool, and probably almost completely failsafe, but imagine the cost of running magnets up a tower 250-300 feet tall...yikes.
  14. Slow?! Haha, I'd give anything to have that lineup year after year.
  15. ^ Meh, it happens in almost every park discussion or new ride discussion thread, though. This one isn't any special or different. People don't read anything and just post away, thinking they're the first ones to post such information, meanwhile it's been posted already like 15 pages ago. ^ (Regarding my quote) Cedar Point has been vague in the past, so who knows...just throwing it out there as food for thought.
  16. My guess is they'll be rethemed. Maybe not necessarily for next year, but it might be a slow process that lasts 2 or 3 years to de-Nickelodeon/Hanna Barbara everything and turn it into Peanuts. But then again, maybe they will do everything in one offseason, who knows?
  17. Maybe they meant drenched? I've ridden a number of log rides that only give you a slight spray and don't really get you all that wet.
  18. Universal Orlando Islands of Adventure Busch Gardens Africa Cedar Point Darien Lake Kings Island Holiday World Waldameer Kennywood
  19. No one ever did answer this question of mine I posted a few pages back. I know that isn't what it's going to be, I'm just curious.
  20. Well, in any case, it has to be something that goes high enough so that Paddlewheel Excursions has enough clearance. Do splash battles go up and down? I thought they just meandered around a flat course...I could be wrong, though.
  21. Notice the dates of these pictures: Renegade, taken on 11/23/2006: Prowler, taken on 11/13/2008: El Toro, taken on 10/29/2005: My point being, these construction jobs started after or very close to the end of the season. Just because there aren't any footers yet or anything, doesn't really mean anything. Pictures from RCDB.
  22. Have you never seen old cartoons, like Looney Tunes and such...even western movies? The "XXX" on bottles is related to the alcohol content, and I doubt it's a clue.
  23. ^ That box out front of Carowinds also said White Lightning on it.
  24. Have any new Intamin drop towers even been built since the Kentucky Kingdom accident?
  25. This is Cedar Point we're talking about. They hyped up what was "behind the plastic," like it was coaster track or something, meanwhile it was just a new office...
