  1. It is ordinary for parks to close for special events. Even big-name parks, as already stated. Even Cedar Point is closed a day this summer for a private event. Saturday, September 6th to be exact. By the way, what exactly is going on, on that date? Is it some enthusiast event (or something of the nature...charity event, school, etc.), or just some private event where someone rented out the park for a day?
  2. I have been to Cedar Point and SFMM, and am going to GADV for the fist time this summer. Personally, between CP and SFMM, I'd choose SFMM. CP, though is still a real quality park and definitely worth taking a trip from anywhere to visit. CP definitely has the better flat ride collection. 1) What will the crowds be like in June - early July? Somewhat crowded, but definitely bearable. If you plan right and accordingly, crowds shouldn't be a problem. 2) If I visit the park for 2 days, will I have enough time to do everything? Yes, more than enough time. 3) Is the Hotel Breakers worth it for the 1 hour morning ERT? I say it is. It's very convenient, being right on site and all. If you want to go cheaper, though, look into staying at the Breakers Express. You have to drive down the road into the park, but you still get the 1 hour ERT, and I believe that your parking gets reimbursed, not sure about that one, though, could be wrong. 4) What kind of lines should I expect, assuming I visit on weekdays (Mon. - Thur.) for the major attractions. Average CP lines. Not too long of waits, but no walk-ons. I'd say roughly 2 hours for Maverick, roughly 1-2 hours for MF/TTD/Raptor/Mantis. Once again, if you plan accordingly, you can easily get everything done, and then some. Also, some points in the day when most of the GP is at lunch/dinner or whatever, you'll encounter walk-ons. I'd suggest eating at odd times. 5) What is the chance of rain in Ohio during these months? Rain is hit or miss. The chance is usually somewhat high, but don't let that dampen your trip. That's one good thing about SFMM, you have a much less chance of it raining. 6) And finally, as more of a subjective question, do you think that Cedar Point has a better collection of coasters than say SFMM or Six Flags Great Adventure? No, I don't I like SFMM's collection slightly better, and from pictures and research, GADV's looks slight;ly better as well. Don't get me wrong, though, they are very close and each park has a world class collection of coasters.
  3. I found something interesting. I was browsing through past transcripts of Coastermania Q&As when I cam across this, from the 2003 Coastermania Q&A. Question: Answer from Monty Jasper (to make the read easier, I have put it into paragraphs): Here's the source. You know, now that I think about it, I have noticed the ground and/or wood being wet many times in the past, after a night where it hadn't rained. I always thought it was dew or something. I guess not!
  4. That's a shame. Especially since it's so old and has so much history. I always hate seeing things like these happen to coasters.
  5. ^ I agree, but with Speed in Las Vegas coming in at a VERY close second. I don't know if they are technically the strongest, but they feel like it. The fact that the track is above you and you can't see anything in any seat except the front definitely plays a factor. Only a few launches take away my stomach anymore, and Wicked Twister is one of them. This summer I'll have to see if Voodoo still does, because it did when it was at Geauga Lake, but that was years ago. Here are all the LIM/LSM launched coasters I have been on in order from most intense to least: 1) Wicked Twister (Cedar Point) 2) Speed (Nascar Cafe in Las Vegas) 3) Superman: Ultimate Escape/Steel venom (Six Flags Worlds Of Adventure/Geauga Lake) 4) Maverick (Cedar Point) 5) Flight of Fear (Kings Island) 6) Superman: The Escape (Six Flags Magic Mountain)
  6. I'm no expert or anything, so I don't know if this would help or not, but perhaps they could reinforce it with modern materials and use modern techniques when doing so. They could then do away with the trims and not worry about it shaking itself apart because it's going too fast. In the process of doing that, they could also give the track and trains a good rehab.
  7. I wasn't necessarily talking about them not getting another Intamin coaster because of mechanical reasons and/or their displease of Intamin (although that plays somewhat of a factor, in my opinion) as I was talking about the fact that there aren't too many types of Intamin coasters left to build.
  8. How was it a fiasco? New pieces were fabricated and the problem was solved, I think it took all of 2 weeks to fix the problem. I don't care what CP gets, I just wish they would take the time to make more quality, not more quantity of rides. The definition of a fiasco is a complete failure, which is what the heartline roll was, in my opinion, or they wouldn't have removed it. It failed to meet their standards and caused problems. Regarding your second statement, I agree and think that Maverick is definitely a huge step towards building more quality-oriented rides, than quantity-oriented ones.
  9. Just like they were done with them after TTD's many problems? And Wicked Twisters modifications following stress fractures in the track? Or MFs techical problems? They specifically blamed Intamin, though at Coastermania 2007 and hinted that they were done with them for a while. They probably cut Intamin slack in the past, because they still delivered a quality product in the end, and also because, besides WT, the problems were mostly maintenance and working out bugs on Cedar Point's part, little to do with Intamin, but this was probably the "last straw." Not only that, but what else from Intamin, coaster-wise and besides an Intamin pre-fab woodie, is there to build? They have pretty much every type of Intamin coaster there is. Here is where I am getting this information. Some notable quotes: Once again, I am not saying that these are going to happen, guaranteed to happen, or anything of the sort. I am simply saying that they are something to think about, and that's all.
  10. Maverick is already next to Mean Streak. (which is pretty much like Farenheit) Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Besides, I think CP is done with Intamin for a while after the Maverick heartline roll fiasco. I got into this discussion on the TPOL forums. I think that the next coaster at Cedar Point is either going to be a B&M Dive Machine at the front of the park (because it would also take care of the floorless aspect), or a GCI woodie in CCMR's current position. Screamscape posted a rumor to look for an "older steel coaster" to be removed from CP in the near future, and I think CCMR is the best possibility. Plus, putting a GCI woodie in it's place would be perfect. It's relatively small, so spacing wouldn't be too much of an issue, and it's a family coaster that would be replacing a previous family coaster. Especially since the "coaster race" is temporarily over, I think that this has a legitimate chance of happening. Lastly, "Renagade" fits perfectly with Frontiertown. Just some thoughts to think about.
  11. Mean Streak is bad, don't get me wrong, but I think that it's not as bad as people make it out to be. I still have a lot of fun on it over-exaggerating the jerkiness and roughness. For example, I'll be riding with friends and when a jerky turn comes along, we'll all scream in pain about our thighs or something, when in actuality, it didn't hurt at all, lol. It's one of those "you have to be there" moments.
  12. What could they do to the support, or that section of the ride to change that? They could possibly add some bracing supports on it. I'm no engineering expert or anything, so I don't know if that would help, but a couple poles welded in here and there might do the job, or it might not.
  13. ^^ Yeah, I believe I heard somewhere that they are working on getting a good drop ride. SFMM is so much better than CP in so many ways. I, myself am trying to pull some strings and get back out there either next year or the year after. When you go, you will love it. It just has so much to offer. When I went, not once did I stop and think that there was nothing else to do. The thing is, too, that I only rode 2 coasters twice, X and Tatsu, the others I only rode once and I was still kept busy the entire day.
  14. Yes, but that means NOTHING to your Cedar Point fanboy who goes to the park all the time.... --Robb Yeah, I'm a Cedar Point fanboy, that's why my favorite steel coaster is X, my favorite wood is the Beast (soon to be El Toro), and my favorite park is SFMM. Also, not to mention that I clearly stated I prefer SFMM over CP earlier in this thread. Going to a park a few times a year just because I want to have some fun automatically makes me a fanboy towards that park? If I had the money, I'd fly out to Valencia frequently. Regarding Elissa's comment, yes I realize that and I did take that into account, but hearing someone's opinion on something and actually experiencing it for yourself are completely different.
  15. I never said you or anyone doesn't have a right to voice their opinion. I said that I thought them to be pretty decent. I only mentioned that I go every year so that my comment had credibility and so you didn't think I was bluffing and pulling this information out of my ass. I WAS NOT trying to say that you don't have a right to pass judgment on anything, so I apologize if it sounded like I did. I agree that they aren't what they used to be, but the way I interpreted it was that she was saying they are rapidly declining and becoming among the worst she has experienced, and saying that means a LOT coming from you guys considering the amount of parks you've been to. Regarding my username, you're really going to "judge a book by it's cover" and base something on a name that I made two whole years ago? I thought you knew better than to do so. When I registered, I might add, I hadn't been to nearly as many parks as I have been to today. Hell, the farthest east I had ever been was Cincinnati (and even then when I was at Kings Island before last summer, I hadn't ridden anything because I was too little), and that isn't even close to being the case now. If I could change my username, I would, but I can't so I'm stuck with it.
  16. I'm new to season passes, so I don't know if this will help or not, but if it does, then good, if not, then sorry for wasting your time. I bought the $89.99 season pass and it's good at a select 15 other Six Flags parks.
  17. Besides the Midwest trip, have you? If you have, then my reasoning is flawed, but basing the employees on ONE experience isn't very good. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but I go every year, a few times a year, and I find the employees to be fairly decent. Definitely the best out of all the parks I go to. That list for last summer includes: Hershey Park, Kings Island and Kennywood.
  18. Magic Mountain's collection is better than Cedar Point's. This coming from someone who has always been biased towards Cedar Point. When I went to SFMM in the summer of 2006, I thought that their collection was far superior. They are fairly close, though, but SFMM has a slight edge for me. But I do like Cedar Point, as a park, more because of the sentimental value. I've only bee to SFMM once, but CP probably over 50 times throughout my life. I know the park like the back of my hand, and have had so many memories there.
  19. Yeah, that's one of those rides you go to first thing and get on like the 3rd train of the day, then you never ride again the rest of the day.
  20. My worst wait was 2 hours for X in the summer of 2006. I got into the station in 30 minutes, and the funny thing is, that the ride didn't break down once. I waited an hour and a half in the station because of VERY poor operations. My limit for a ride is 2 hours. If the wait is longer than that, than I'm not waiting. I go to parks only in May and June anyway, so I usually never have that problem.
  21. Superman was definitely one of the funnest rides I have ever ridden. It's not thrilling or anything like that, but as far as being fun goes, it was, no doubt, one of my top coasters in that category. I don't know what it was about it, but it's just so simple, yet so fun. Maybe it was the "penny trick," or just the zero gravity, in general, but I really liked it and hope it stays there for a while.
  22. Update for me: Darien Lake has moved to my confirmed list (when depends on MotoCoaster), and Silverwood for the opening of Aftershock has been added to my confirmed list. No Canada's Wonderland, so that has been taken off my list.
  23. Glad a date is set now! I can't wait to get out there, I plan on going the first week it's open!
  24. Thanks everyone! Hopefully I'll see you finalists there!
