What about Hulk? Hulk uses high speed drive or 'pinch' wheels to fling the train up the lift. Maverick uses LIMs. Doesn't California Screamin' (built before Maverick) use LIMs on the lift? Ok? He didn't say anything about LIMs, he said that Maverick was the first coaster to have a launched lift hill, but I'm questioning that because I believe it was Hulk. Also, for the record, Maverick uses LSMs, not LIMs.

^ I believe that's either Tower of Terror at Gold Reef City, or Moonsault Scramble at Fuji-Q Highland. Not 100% sure, some correct me if I'm wrong.

What about Hulk?

Impulses are unique and definitely something else! I've ridden both Wicked Twister and Voodoo (Superman: Ultimate Escape/Steel Venom) when it was at Geauga Lake. I personally prefer WT more, but Voodoo is still an awesome ride! I just hope they use the brakes on the back spike, because that's half the fun!

Nice pictures! Looked like a really fun time! -
They could just make the launch section steel, like they make SOB's loop steel. I'd like to see more Impulse coasters with layouts, rather than just going back and forth...sort of like Volcano at KD. Or even a launched B&M Invert. I also like the idea of a launching flyer, but honestly, I think flyers are already starting to die out, they are becoming the new stand-up coasters. In my opinion, flyers are fun and all, but I think they are more uncomfortable than they are enjoyable, but that's just me.

No way. The 1920s had "Loop the Loop" and "Flip-flap railway", both of which were wood. Hm, yeah, that's true. The second part of my "first" is correct, though.

Yeah, but Cedar Point weren't the only ones that did this, that's the thing. When Desperado opened in Nevada in 1994, it was 209'. On the wall near the entrance they have an old poster from the early to mid 1990s hanging up advertising it as the tallest and fastest in the world.
-
This is actually incorrect. The first was Moonsault Scramble at Fuji-Q Highland. http://www.rcdb.com/id1292.htm Here's a POV video of it. http://youtube.com/watch?v=2wS-JQvl-4M Hm, did not know that. Why then would Cedar Point advertise Magnum as the tallest and fastest coaster in the world throughout the 90s? Strange. Here's another: Millennium Force - First 300+ foot lift hill.

Your Park "To Do List"
FeelTheFORCE replied to DBru's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree, SOB was really great when I rode it, but I did ride in the front seat. This summer I'll have to test out different seats. Racer Forwards was a little rough, they could tend a little to that. I agree with Firehawk also, I went there first thing in the morning when I went in August, and even though I was on one of the first rides of the day, standing there waiting even 10 minutes to go into the station got a buch of people sweating and fanning themselves. -
Son of Beast - First wooden coaster with a loop, and also the first (and still only to this day) wooden coaster to exceed 200 feet.

How do you save money at a park?
FeelTheFORCE replied to palmerleeberry's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
-If you are going multiple days to one park, consider a season pass. -See if someone in your group who doesn't plan on going to the park can drop you off at the park and pick you up at night. It'll save you those ridiculous parking fees. -If you buy tickets, there are usually coupons in a local fast food place, or look for some sort of deal with, say Coke cans, on TV. They usually advertise those frequently. -
Magnum XL 200 - First roller coaster to top 200 feet.

It could be a clause in their agreement, that Kennywood is required to upgrade a few things before the actual purchase, which would then make it indirectly the work of PR. It's like when you sell a house, but you get a buyer that will only buy it if, say, you throw in the lawnmower also. (I know, stupid example, but you get my point.) Just a thought...you never know. -

Disney expanding into Canada?
FeelTheFORCE replied to larrygator's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is just a prediction as to what the author thinks is going to happen in 2010. Disney didn't really acquire one of those parks, as BeemerBoy also stated. I don't think they ever will acquire either of those parks. If anything, it'll be Parques Reunidos. I do believe, however, that Disney will eventually build a thrill park. Whether it's 2 years from now or 12 years from now, I think it will happen. -

I completely agree, but the thing is that I don't think the non-enthusiast population has caught on yet as we have. These companies are trying to milk everything they possibly can out of it before the non-enthusiasts realize it's redundant. Anyway, looks like a really fun coaster! I have to get out to Europe one of these years! -

Nürburgring launched coaster

You know Cedar Point is sitting back, licking their chops. They'll reclaim both number one spots soon enough. On topic, great points about them using it for the sport of F1 Racing, and not for having the title. Hopefully this will turn out to be a really nice coaster! -

CGA's Flight Deck STRIKES BACK!!!
FeelTheFORCE replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Cedar Fair should have some contests for the name changes, like Silverwood is for Deja Vu. Maybe not for every ride that's getting a change, that would probably be too much of a hassle because there's too many, but for a few of the major ones. Not only would they then have a quality name (hopefully), but they would increase attendance with all the advertising for the contest. Might be more effort than it's worth, though. Anyway, "Afterburn" is definitely an improvement.
