Great video! That B&M roar sounds so awesome! -
I agree with Robb. It's common knowledge that everything at amusement parks costs much more than anywhere else (for the most part). If someone can't afford to go to one or just doesn't want to spend the money, then don't go! I, myself rely on water fountains all day to keep hydrated and only eat actual meals once or twice. Obviously that method won't work for everyone, especially those with children, but it saves me a lot of money, space, and trouble trying to find a place to put things while I ride. Smart planning and coordinating before a day at a park can save you tons.

Cedar Point - Is it worth it?
FeelTheFORCE replied to orangeblue's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, TTD isn't on the list, so it doesn't open until 10:00 am when all the other rides do. The only reason it was on the list last year was because of Maverick's heartline roll replacement. They need a filler coaster to take it's spot temporarily. -
CP Platinium pass holders Benefits

I've seen it pretty darn crowded for so-called ERT, but it was mostly congregated around Raptor since that's the first big ride by the main gate. Yeah, I've seen it somewhat crowded some years, then empty others. It varies. Last year I got 5 or 6 straight rides on Raptor, with about 3 or 4 of those being in the front seat, while everyone else went to TTD, MF, and Skyhawk. As soon as I saw all the GP standing at the cut off point, though licking their chops, I got out of there and went back to Gemini to wait for it's opening. I just hope that most of the people will go to Maverick this year so I can get my mini-marathons on MF and Raptor. I also have a question for anyone who may know. Why does Mean Streak open at 11:00 am? All the years I've been going to CP, I just found this out last year. -
Cedar Point - Is it worth it?

^ It all depends on the day, whether, etc., but I'd have to say not likely. I went twice last year, once before Maverick was open (in May), and once after (early June). Before it was open was the time I stayed at the Breakers, the other time, when it was open, was just for the day. My second visit, I got to the park (at the Magnum entrance, the one closest to maverick) at 9:30 and had to wait a half hour until the park opened to the GP before I could go in. The first thing I went to was Maverick, and even at 10:00 am, sharp, the line was 1.5 hours long. Maybe if you get to the gate at about 8:15-8:30, you can be one of the the first to run to Maverick, but it would be tough. It's possible, but you really have to hurry. -
Cedar Point - Is it worth it?

I realize that, which is why I said "coaster." Cedar Point does an upgrade of some sort every single off-season. I wouldn't be surprised if they added something at Soak City next year, or possibly a water ride in the park, putting off adding a coaster not until around 2010-2012. -

They just got Maverick last year. I wouldn't expect their next coaster to be until 2010 at the earliest, especially now since the "coaster race" with SFMM is over, temporarily. -
When there is even the slightest drizzle, Cedar Point will shut down most of it's rides and won't reopen them again until extensive testing is complete and it has stopped raining for a certain period of time. Their policy was always somewhat questionable, in my opinion, but you can thank Magnum's accident last year for making it worse. With all the lawsuits these days, though, I don't blame them one bit. They are only trying to protect themselves and their guests.

Awesome update Jahan! Since my visit two summers ago, I really like seeing the improvements they are making, and just pictures of the park in general. I also really like the angles you can now get of Goliath from Thomas Town! Great to see how this park has so vastly improved from only two years ago. Keep it up MM!

Research Paper Experiment/Survey...
FeelTheFORCE replied to coasterdude5's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No, it's not an exaggeration. I know what happened, I was there, you weren't, don't tell me what I saw. The first two times I rode it that day (this was my third time), it moved, like you said, about 75% of an inch or so. That third time, it moved a hell of a lot more. It was 4 inches at the very least. It moved a good amount compared to my first two rides. NOTHING is 100% fail safe. Yes, the hydraulic lap bars have to fail twice before completely failing, but that doesn't mean they can't fail at all. -

^^ What coaster was that? If you don't mind my asking. My answer is yes. I have had one weird experience, however. It was on Xclelerator at Knotts. I put my hands up on the top of the tophat and all my weight was on the lap bar. It all of a sudden started slowly releasing and moving forward, but stopped. When we hit the brakes and I looked, it had opened up a good 6 inches or so. I now don't put my hands up on Intamin coasters with hydraulic lap bars, instead I hold on the whole time. EDIT: To answer your recent question, I don't know exactly if my health was an issue, but I have "greyed out" on coasters before. Namely Goliath at SFMM, during the helix (who doesn't, though, lol), Millennium Force in the back seat only, from the bottom of the first drop to the top of the first airtim hille, Raptor in the back seat during the helix, and Silver Bullet in the back seat during the helix. All I can think of right now. -
What's wrong with Mean Streak?
FeelTheFORCE replied to dammie16@vt.edu's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It takes a lot to maintain this coaster (as with any wooden coaster). Maybe too much for what it's worth. Perhaps they are considering tearing it down. It does, though, have a very photogenic and good looking structure. I must say, too, that Mean Streak's operations are great. Even when the place is empty and they are getting little to no riders, all 3 trains are running. I remember once, two or three years ago, I was the only one on the train, yet they still had 3 on the track. I always give kudos to the Mean Streak crew, they are definitely one of the best at CP. -
Great points. To throw out an example, look at the concept drawings and animations of Maverick. In reality, it doesn't have nearly half the scenery and whatnot that were in the concepts, and I doubt it ever will. But I have really positive feeling towards this park. I really want to get back there eventually (hopefully either next summer or the summer after). I am really impressed with the improvements they have made.

While I encourage everyone to ride a coaster before passing a judgement, I would disagree with this statement. I don't think I even gave Magnum a "courtesy ride" during my last visit. The ride does nothing for me any more other than re-arrange my kidneys. --Robb Yeah, it's basically a hit or miss. I took my friend to CP for the first time last year and he is about 5 inches taller than me (he's roughly 6'5", I'm roughly 6'0") and he hated it. Because he has longer legs, it was brutal on his thighs, I guess it didn't help that we sat in the ejector seat, though. I, personally, like Magnum and can ride it over and over without pain. -

Yeah, that's what's nice about going so early in May like I do every year. I don't actually book the hotel until I can see the 7-day weather forecast, lol. I feel bad for the people who have to book it so far in advance, because they go during prime time, only to get there and it's pouring. Anyone planning on going, I'd suggest trying as hard as you can to go on weekdays in May. Not only are there much less crowds (practically everything is a walk-on), but it's cheaper, too.
