deguy123 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 People seem to never talk about this coaster, and I think it's great and I actually like it alot better then Kingda Ka. Yeah KK is bigger but Storm Runner seems much more fun in the long run. Also Storm Runner rarely has any problems correct ? Unless I just miss them. I was there 3 times last year and it was never closed and did not break down once while in line.
MattJackson Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Storm Runner is a great coaster, but it doesn't really break any records that make it stand out. It's the rocket coaster with the most inversions, but Kingda Ka is the world's fastest and tallest coaster. Storm Runner didn't break any records for height and speed, as far as I know. There are a LOT of great coasters that don't really get talked about. Storm Runner just happens to be one. You can start a fan thread about it, I guess.
Reality15 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Storm Runner (and for that matter, most of the other Hersheypark coasters) really are great rides, and I'd take them over the huge record-breakers that other parks have any day.
alpengeist04 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I think Storm Runner is much better then KK or TTD. I just hope more parks in the US built these kind of coasters, instead of going for the height and/or speed record.
Thrillrider15 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I'm glad someone posted about this. And yes, it seems to be that Storm Runner lost its hype in popularity. When it opened to the public, it was a big hit! But now it's barely even spoken anymore.
Xxhershey818xX Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I would just like to say its the only launched coaster that i have been able to ride more than 10 times in one day the line is never like extremely long its fun and if like someone is to scared to ride KK they can ride this and be satisfied with themselfs hey i went to HP last year for my eight grade trip and i got My pricipal and all the teachers to ride well yea i think that says something!
DerekRx Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 I think Storm Runner is a fun ride, but I don't think its amazing, as its just too short for me to consider. I will ride it when I go to Hershey though, because unlike Kingda Ka and Top Thrill Dragster, I know it will run consistantly and an approximate 40 minute wait will actually be a 40 minute wait, give or take 5-10 minutes.
deguy123 Posted April 21, 2006 Author Posted April 21, 2006 ^ I guess it has something to do with the height. But overall I don't think it's Storm Runner, I just think Hershey Park is so under-rated. I mean it doesn't really have any standout coaster but they are usually running and give a good ride. I have never had a bad trip there. I even think Sidewinder is good, doesnt seem to be as ruff as all the other ones out there.
Swimace Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 I personally love Strom Runner, it sits comfortably in the middle of my top 3 coasters: 1)Apollo's Chariot 2)Storm Runner 3)SheiKra. I don't think we hear much about it because it's a couple years old and accelerator coasters are popping up everywhere. Hersheypark is just a pretty quiet park that doesn't get talked about all too much, but that can be nice since it isn't overhyped.
deguy123 Posted April 21, 2006 Author Posted April 21, 2006 ^ True....that it can be good that the park isnt overhyped. The rides are also placed very well in the park. Storm Runner looks good in its location which at first I didn't think I'd like. Plus they put Starship America back in and it reminds me when I went there as a kid. Those things go pretty high also! Without the Big Wheel though it just seems wierd looking at the park.
Jon Sabo Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Stormrunner does not break any records in terms of height or speed, but doesnt it break record in terms of "most-inversions" on a launched coaster? (including PKD-V:BC?)
Jon Sabo Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Sorry for the double post....PKD ride has 1 more inversion than Stormrunner...if I'm correct...sorry....must be the Maui sun today..lol
niiicolaaah Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Storm Runner has three inversions. Volcano has four. The Premier LIM-launchers also have four if I'm not mistaken. So.... no. Storm Runner doesn't break the record for most inversions on a launched coaster. It's the only one with a flying snake dive though, whatever that is.
MattJackson Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 When we say that it is the launched coaster with the most inversions, I think we meant that it is the first Intamin sit-down launched coaster with multiple inversions, I think. Kanonen has one, but other than that, Storm Runner has the most, depending on whether or not Speed Monster's "pretzel" or whatever is considered inversions.
ahecht Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 I would consider the pretzle two inversions, so Speedmonster has 3 total. Therefore, it would tie.
MattJackson Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 ^ Yeah, that's what I thought. So, Storm Runner is only recognized because it is a good ride, nevermind its length.
ncf Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Kanonen has 2 inversions, not one. And the pertzel on SpeedMonster is like a dive loop and an immelman, they are definately inversions
Deadromanticx Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I love Storm Runner. It's my favorite steel coaster at HP, and I've never walked away from the line, no matter how long it is (of course, HP's EXCELLENT operations always help). Lol, I just love Hersheypark. Does it show?
MattJackson Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Kanonen has 2 inversions, not one. I only saw the loop, what's the other one? Yeah, I was questioning because of these new "incline elements".
Canadmos Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 ^http://rcdb.com/ig2905.htm?picture=21 The roll going through the loop.
benzo41190 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Personally the ride is not that great. I also dont see why they put the OTS lap bar restraint a ride with so many lateral G's. They either should have used there normal OTSR's or use lap bars But after the barrel roll dive, the rest of the ride seems like it was made with the auto track completor on RCT3. The launch is great and the top hot is cool, but the end is so blah.
larrygator Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I like Storm Runner and as far as Hershey goes, I like to refer to Hershey as the most complete amusement park.
silentthunder Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Storm Runner has three inversions. Volcano has four. The Premier LIM-launchers also have four if I'm not mistaken. So.... no. Storm Runner doesn't break the record for most inversions on a launched coaster. It's the only one with a flying snake dive though, whatever that is. StormRunner broke the record for the most inversions for a hydraulic launch coaster.
Wes Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 ^ Storm Runner didn't break the record, technically it MADE the record since it was the first hydraulic with any inversions.
peteb Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Hersheypark is only underated by people who think parks need to have the tallest and fastest of whatever to be good. Hershey is one of the best amusement park experiences out there; the management knows what type of crowd comes to Hershey and what they expect and take care of them. They don't need record breakers to draw a crowd; they just need to keep making solid ride choices as they have done for many years. Because Storm Runner was never intended to be a record breaker, it stands on it's own as an excellent, reliable ride and will for years to come as record breakers come and go.
