jarmor Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 I was just thinking about parks that got no new attractions or noticable upgrades this year and SFA comes to mind. With all the buzz of another water park expansion and possibly a new coaster it seems like 2006 is deja'vu of 2005! So what parks do you know that didnt get anything this year?
shesaidboom Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Paramount Canada's Wonderland. Well, we got a stunt show and we did get The Italian Job last year so I have no reason to complain. I don't really expect them to get something big every year. I'm hoping next year they'll take out Tomb Raider and put something good in its place but yeah, that's not going to happen.
Guest Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 No new rides for Elitch Gardens but..."more entertainment, renewed commitment to family experience and guest service." Â So that's good.
ECZenith Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 SFNE got two new rides this year... but they also took 4 away.
pkdcoaster Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Busch Gardens Europe!!!!!! for the 5th time!!!! in the last 6 years....pathetic  new shows do not count as far as I am concerned  (oh yea..and they lost 2 coasters in that time frame as well)  JEFF
niiicolaaah Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Six Flags Crappity Lake... Please stop adding water slides and add some ACTUAL rides. The park has like 5 flat rides, only one of which is worth riding (Twister, the topspin). The only reason to visit the park is for the Intamin goodness, which you can get at other SF parks.
Movieguy Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Eh, I'm used to SFDL getting shafted year after year. I had high hopes after Superman opened, but it's clear that's the extent of SF's interest in this park. Â It makes you wonder why SF even bought the damn park in the first place, if they're just gonna keep giving all their attention to SFGadv and SFNE as the big parks of the Northeast, and let this place sit and rot. Hell, even the Great Escape got a new waterpark that's indoors. Â Come on SF...what do we the people of Upstate NY have to do for you to give us just ONE stinking Beemer. Â Doug "Just another case of the NYC area getting everything" Booth

UberBeavis Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Six Flags Magic Mountain never gets anything new...
dougr Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Playland got rid of a couple of old rides-Octopus, Tilt-a-whirl and got two new ones last year-Breakdance and Gladiator (fan boat). This year looks like they got nothing.

It was originally independent and then got bought by Fun Time Parks- I still have a souvenir cup with Wyandott (another joke of a park), Geagua, and Darien Lake on it.  Premier then bought Fun Time Parks, then Premier bought the SF name and parks from Time Warner before TW merged with AOL. Premier then changed their DBA and renamed most of their existing parks so the GP would think they had gotten purchased by SF!  Other then S:ROS There has not been one addition to that park that stands out as something remotely unique that little itty bitty FunTime could not have come up with on their own- I mean look at Viper- when it opened it had more loops than another other coaster! When Predator 1st opened it was on a Top 10 List (NOT the Top 10 worst as it is now).  So not only have Western New Yorkers had to deal with not getting anything new year after year, they have also had to deal with poorly maintained rides! Also bear in mind that almost as much has been removed from that park as has been put in! They used to have a Hydro Force on one of the lakes, I still miss Crazy Quilts, and the lights on the Giant Wheel used to work- on BOTH sides!
Darien Laker Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 It's kind of understandable why SFDL has gotten so little since the name change. Â Darien Lake had a major expansion project back when Premier first bought the park, while the other Premier parks did not. Most (if not all) of them got Mind Erasers....but for some of them that was the only (modern) coaster they got until Premier got Six Flags. Darien Lake got four coasters in four years back when it was still Darien Lake (The Intamin Hyper was planned before the park was flagged, it just obviously wasn't going to be called Superman.) The other Premier Parks (SFA, SFNE, SFMW, etc) didn't get major expansion until after the Six Flags name change, though i'd imagine that Adventure World (SFA) and Riverside (SFNE) were going to get their Intamin Hypers anyway as long as the Darien one went well. Â Also, I don't think Darien would have lost Nightmare if the park wasn't flagged. There would be no Batman Show. Nightmare was a decnet coaster (I'd take it over Predator any day), though I can see why it would be removed for a show.
GAcoaster Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 All the Six Flags parks are getting a lot of new things...not rides but park improvements which will serve them better in the long run. Â As for SFDL not getting anything, they are getting a new slide for the waterpark which is more than some parks ended up with. And SFNE and SFGAdv get more because they serve larger metropolitan areas. When your park is in the middle of nowhere (relative to big cities), it doesn't make economic sense to spend a lot on new attractions. From what I understand even without any new rides, SFDL maintains its attendance levels year after year.
BrownStreak Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Middle of nowhere? SFDL is smack dab in the middle between Rochester and Buffalo- with a combined population of over 2 million within 30 minutes of the park
Movieguy Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Yeah, exactly...Rochester and Buffalo...two economically depressed areas that nobody else in this country gives two you-know-whats about. Â Everyone's leaving that area, and I'm considering doing the same in the future.

Darien Laker Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Six Flags obviously hasn't been handling their large market parks correctly either. Look at how much debt they're in because of all of those "needed" attractions at SFGAdv and SFMM. I don't know, hopefully Shapiro will dig them out....(but let's just hope his plans don't backfire in his face)
KrakenKing Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Three Words: Islands of Adventure  They're starting to make me angry

Slessie Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Six Flags Magic Mountain never gets anything new... one word tatsu
cprocks22 Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 i know Michigan's Adventure did get a new water ride but come on its their 50th anerversary. They need a new coaster, the last coaster they got was Mad Mouse and Big Dipper in 1999.
