P. 799: 2026 addition teaser campaign begins!

So to take a break from ride name speculation, there's been some interesting stuff posted on another site.

As we made our way around Adventure Mountain we ran into a maintenance crew member. So one of our party members went ahead and gave a shot asking him if they were building a flyer, he replied, "No..." So we asked if it is a Wingrider... I guess he didn't know what we meant, however, he stated, "It is the same type of coaster that was just built in Italy..."

The source decided to open up a little bit more about the new attraction. He confirmed the clearing behind and next to the Sky Zip Info Building is going to be the station, maintenance house and queue line for the coaster. He also provided some specs on the coaster. From the very bottom of that large cliff you saw in the photos it will stand at record breaking height of 220ft. Now I know we have heard and read the speculations of the track only standing 11 feet off the ground at it's highest point.

Well I think we can put that speculation to rest as he also told us after it crests the top of the cliff it will dive down into a 180 foot loop.

Hmm, assuming the source is correct (definitely wouldn't be the first time this sort of info has been leaked like this), it sounds like it will climb up the hillside, then maybe do a curving drop sort of like LC12? I couldn't tell if they meant the loop came after the drop or not.

220 feet sounds pretty sweet, though keep in mind that's probably using a lot of terrain to the ride's advantage. I'm still worried about how much this will wreck the park's old charm, but I guess these days they care more about competing with Carowinds... We'll see though. I'm ready to see some renderings. I feel like the only part of this project that hasn't been uncovered at this point is the layout itself.

Everything I've heard is that it's going to be a "huge" attraction, like really huge. If it's going to be a first of its kind attraction in the U.S., a wing rider still makes sense. However, the rumors I've heard about how big this ride is going to be lend me to believe that it could be a hyper wing rider, which would be insane. If that was the case, I'm guessing the "world record element" would have to be the world's tallest inversion. But we'll see.

But then again, this is all just me thinking out loud.

June 8. Just sayin'.

Having been going to dollywood every year since I was born, I'm tired of the charm. I just want some thrilling rides (which they are finally providing).

You know, statements like these usually work better when complete information is provided....

EDIT: And for the record, I personally don't think this project will end up taking away as much "charm" as some may think.

Off the top of my head I don't recall reading much about ride experience (for Gardaland's Wingrider) other than "meh". Most of the positive comments seemed to be in regard to it's theme.

First, if I may say:

Never doubt Dollywood ... or Holiday World ... or B&M (because many did before Gardaland's Raptor finally opened).

Second, I HAVE to throw this out there (i.e. ego talking):

2011 seems like the year of poor planning across the board. I make a lot of critical statements, but much of the industry has lost its focus. Look how many rides still aren't open!

For any theme park owner/operator, fanboy or random person to say, "it's new technology" or this excuse or that ... I give you this thread. Yes, the one you're reading right now.

Dollywood is constructing next year's attraction and most parks 2011 attraction hasn't or JUST opened (some poorly). HA!

Please read the second bold [was first - thanks @Guy] line again. Awesome. Thank you.

Why are people doubting Dollywood? I'm pretty sure these people know what they are doing.

I personally can't wait myself and am very optimistic I will get to ride this beast in 2012...patiently waiting for the announcement

Also keep in mind, that with a lot of B&M rides, the first one is always very calm and timid compared to the ones built after. Look at their flyers for example. Air in Alton is a very slow, swoopy ride with a lot of time spent on your back. Compared to Tatsu that is insanely more extreme then Air. It just takes time for them to move toward the more thrilling rides.

^^^ Never doubt Holiday World, who's had trouble getting trains on a coaster for two seasons and blames it on new technology?

I guess the two legal battles Dollywood is currently involved in regarding recent attractions don't count, huh?

To add to that.......said trains have already been put in service on Twister @ Gronalund.

(Skeptical warning and look...)

I have to agree with Dollywood not making mistakes- the park has done beautifully in an area that, if we REALLY consider it, should not even exist- it's far removed from anywhere, it's in (what was) an inaccessible area of Tennessee, and doesn't have the greatest population bases around it...

That having been said: The park's current arsenal of ride is -sublime- to say the least; it's got balance, it's got great theming across the board, the food is great, the staff is friendly.

So... IF (like I said, till I see the plans, or see an announcement from the park I'm skeptical) it is in fact a WingRider, and it's got some sort of mega-sized elements, it will fit. If it's this mega-scale ride the likes of which we've yet to see, then it will fit. If it's got purple trains and blue track with polka-dot green and pink supports... it will fit. Hershend group has kept Dollywood looking just plain beautiful for all these years, and I'm looking forward to seeing the park next summer for that same reason.

I do hope it's a fully-terrain identified wing-rider, as it would be a tremendous thing to go flying over the terrain inches above soil and trees, creating a new term: Foot chopper elements!

I was hoping for the same thing. Would really make for a unique riding experience!

Not trying to nit-pick, but two facts: this area is within 500 miles of 75% of the population in the US. Dollywood lays at the base of the most visited National Park with 11-12 million visitors annually.

^This is the guy who thought that the 12-inversion Intamin model might be the new 2012 coaster. Just saying.

And who would have thought that the internet housed 30+ year old douches! /sarcasm

I can only think of Mach Tower, Green Lantern West, and some of the Windseekers as problem rides. Most of them have already opened. DL's been working on Carsland for two years straight and BGW's already preparing for their next coaster before Mach Tower's been opened.

New technology's a bitch sometimes, but you can't really blame the parks for building prototypes/having problems during production.

So why are you ignoring the problems that new technology constantly poses in favor of incompotence on the park's fault?

I will give a lot of parks credit for opening their new rides on time this year though.

I love TPR. It's awesome seeing so many different opinions BUT w/ respect ... maybe we should all run for Congress?

@Guy T. Koepp ... DOH! You got me on that one.

@Wes ... that's true. However, The Voyage is still open and has always been See @BeemerBoy

@BeemerBoy ... both attractions opened though; problems came after. I'm talking about the grand opening of hyped up new attractions. The open is the most important and popular time for a new attraction. The bottom line depends on it. Season passes are sold on it, etc.

@DJeXeL ... that track was designed with the new trains in mind. Timberliners were meant for Voyage, but not fully developed until after. (Please do correct me if I'm wrong).

@netdvn ... I also said most just opened. Many rides used to open prior to Memorial Day. The industry has be slowly pushing ride openings back over the years. It's a slow boiling frog thing.

It's all planning.

You plan for delays and things to go wrong. It's ultimately the parks decision to choose manufacturers and make decisions. The earlier you start ...

.

Here's my trump card; if you will:

Harry Potter ... one of the largest new tech rides in a while. They opened on time None of these rides have anything on Forbidden Journey crazy tech coordination and mechanical systems, so I blame planning.

Entire new parks open on time. Not just one small attraction. Give credit where it's deserved not simply because they finally got it open.

Throw Disney in there too. They plan extremely well. Old school park operators used to plan well. Now it's mostly corporate shenanigans.

Dollywood makes this statement IMO: Let's get it right the first time.

Holiday World: "Under promise. Over deliver." ... which I believe Dollywood also does without saying it.

(Thanks for putting up with my thoughts. Love the responses.)
