robbalvey Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I'm surprised it took this long! http://www.wftv.com/news/7841722/detail.html Central Florida Theme Park Restructuring, Downsizing POSTED: 7:19 am EST March 9, 2006 ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Central Florida religious theme park could be living on borrowed time. The Holy Land Experience said it will restructure and downsize in an effort to stay in business. A judge ruled last year that the attraction is a non-profit and tax exempt organization and didn't have to pay its $1 million delinquent property tax bill. But that still wasn't enough to fix the park's financial problems. The park cut back on staff three months ago and will now focus more on attracting faith-based groups. They hope an exhibit of the largest private collection of bible artifacts will help draw more people. Park leaders said they can stay open through Easter and then will re-evaluate the situation. They should have built that Intamin hyper! --Robb
PhishyBrewer Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 They really should be more Jew friendly. That would bring in the cash.
CoasterFanatic Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Dammit! First Splendid China ... now this! Stupid Disney!
CoasterJunkie Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I am going to try and make a visit this weekend...I have always wanted to go...just to say I have been there...I see it being a 2hr-3hr visit at best...If I do manage to go...a TPR will follow of course
Carnage Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 They should add a gas leak that generates halucinations regarding miracles.
robbalvey Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 ^ Ok, that just gave me an idea..... AVATAR CONTEST!!!!!!! http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=150537 --Robb "Have fun with this one!" Alvey
timetrial3141592 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Add a coaster. Theme it to ...um... hmm... the flight from Egypt.
BarryH Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I've been there and I believe I posted a TR a while ago. It felt like church with a $30 admission fee. I'll see if I can dig up some photos for the avatar contest.
ECZenith Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Oh man, I can't wait to see what these creative minds come up with. Imagine the possibilities...
ChrisFL Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I don think I could make avatars for these so I'll just name them: "Moses Parting of the Sea" Wave Pool "Tower of Babylon" Dive Coaster
DerekRx Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Aw man, I gotta try to remember some religious stuff soon in order to make this avatar/photoshop contest! In other news, I didn't even bother looking up Holy Land while I lived in Orlando, and I didn't even know where it was until Hurricane Charley made me detour right by the park. Of course, I didn't stop. Now if they had a credit of some sort, I would have!
Erik Johnson Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 I told them that they needed to build that Holy Rollercoaster in order to stay in business.
speedracer Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I'm also surprised it lasted 5yrs, thought it was a terrible idea from the get go. Opening any business that targets and appeals to one and only one segement of society is never a wise business decision. I mean come on, with such a snorefest of an idea, how many $70 "Jerusalem Gold Annual Passes" could they possible have sold! Just don't see any appeal or repeat factor there whatsoever. No big for them though, I'm sure it'll just be a nice big fat write-off for the church that owns it.
BarryH Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Here's a PTR of the park: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1565&highlight=holy+land+experience
Erik Johnson Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Maybe if everyone sent them $100 they can stay open for a few more weeks. Here is the link: https://oldscrollshop.holylandexperience.com/donations/
BarryH Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I wonder if the HLR goes under, will Kent Buescher buy it out and put an SLC there?
cfc Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I knew they should've installed the Topple Tower of Babel. Maybe President's Park in Williamsburg will buy them out.
Nrthwnd Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Holy-est - themepark - menu - ever.... Hmmm. What to choose? Maybe the Jaffa Hot Dog. Or the Tabgha Tuna... Hmmm.

Perhaps a semi-authentic depiction of early times would work in Vegas-wait, there's Ceaser's Palace and Bellagio and Luxor... From John 2: 13When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16To those who sold doves he said, "Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!"
Movieguy Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 ^ It's pretty clear that most televangelists, and the people behind those "Mega churches" aren't too familiar with that passage either
FlyingScooter Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Pretty sad that HolyLand is going down. Tough times all over. Half the Adult Video stores in cleveland shut down last year, too.
The Angry Darren Mullins Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 My paln to save this park. If I had enough cash, I would buy it and build dueling wood coasters with a hellfire theme, one called Damned If You Do and the other Damned If You Don't. Then I would build the Tower of Bable, which would be an S & S combo tower. I would have a pretty garden area themed to the Garden of Eden. I would also add a Parting of the Red Sea shoot the chutes and a Noah's Ark.
FlyingScooter Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 ^Great idea with the garden of eden. Naked women all around, wooohoooo!
