The anal probe thing definitely threw me off, but it still made me chuckle!

The trip is over, sadly... Japan was just awesome. The people, the cities, and the culture make for a truly unique place that everyone (at least those who can respect it!!) should experience.

Hi Robb,

Can you post some hints on getting to some of the out of the way parks you visited?

I'm heading back to Japan on the 17th of Jan and am keen to visit some of the more remote one's that I haven't seen before.

How did you get back from Nasu Highlands ?

Peter.

I drove them back!

Actually we were going to visit another park, but:

A. We couldn't find it.

B. We had other things to do.

C. I couldn't stand the Alvey's anymore and kicked them out at the first train station I could find!

D. The Alvey's couldn't stand me and begged to be dropped at the first train station they saw.

E. My wife of about 2 weeks called me and said she wanted sex.

F. A mixture of some or all of the above.

If you want info on how to get to parks, I can help. I live here, speak english, and have figured out how to get to almost all of the major parks and many smaller parks.

Cool, thanks Chris.

Was Rindouko-family-bokujo the other park you were trying to find near Nasu Highland?

This is very much a last minute trip for me, and have only just started planning. I will be in Japan for 13 days and will have a 14 day railpass.

So I'm starting with a blank canvas. I've been to Japan a few times before and have done most of the parks near Tokyo and Osaka, even went on Steel Dragon 2000 before it had the incident.

I'll probably head east of Tokyo first before it gets any colder or deeper in snow, Possibly even up to Hokkaido. Then slowly make my way west to Kyushu.

I haven't been west of Hiroshima before, so I'm keen to visit some of the parks in in Kyushu. The two Robb just visited seem to be easy enough as both have their own stations. Anything near a station is ok as I can work out timetables and transfer points fairly easily.

But the problems come in when buses are added to the mix as their timetables can be hard to translate and it's not obvoius to know exactly which stand the buses pick up from when you can't read kanji.

I was hoping to do Nasu Highlands as well , but if my translation is correct they close on the 10th of January until near the end of Feburary.

I'll put together a more detailed plan, and give you a shout if I get stuck with access to any of them.

Regards,

Peter.

Yes Nasu does close for most of January and February.

In Kyushu it is very easy to do Space World as it has its own JR Station.

Kijima has a bus direct from the JR Beppu Station that is very easy to take.

Mitsui Greenland also has a bus but we were pretty much told to take a taxi and it was a pretty cheap and fast taxi ride (about 15 minutes $15)

Those are the three main parks down there, have fun! Let us know if we can help in anyway as it's all still fresh in my head and binder!

Actually we were trying to drive to Seibu Yuenchi after sunset which made negotiating nameless streets more difficult. I am going there today by train which will be much easier!

As for travelling around Japan this time of year, parks north of the Kanto region tend to have a closure period. The farther north you go the longer the period. Hokkaido parks closed the last week of October. (I was there the first week of November.) As for Tohoku, the closures were generally in December with a New Year's event, then closed again until March.

If you are interested in things besides amusement parks up north, the Sapporo Snow Festival is fantastic, and winter sports are plentiful. Schuss-boom!

As you head south, more parks are open. There are tons of parks on Kyushu, as well as other parks you may not have found on your first trip here.

'm'gawd! That's even more stalkerish than asking his whereabouts! hahahaha

Actually, it was of the 'thing' in the pic, that whats-his-name was sitting in, that AR&R showed . If Elissa was in it, in the pic, I would have said same thing - hah.

Hi guys:

I am a new member to the site, but have been peeking over the past years thanks to Screamscape.

I just came back from Hong Kong myself and spent a few hours at Ocean Park on the 26th of December. The park has an amazing setting--loved the views of the ocean and surrounding islands. Plus, their atoll reef aquarium had some curiously strange fish.

Did you get a chance to take the train to Shenzhen in China? They have a couple of parks there as well. Have fun!
