theymitbgi Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 While I love your idea a taking a train to St. Louis. The amtrak station is downtown, and I don't believe there are any rental car places downtown. You would need to take Metrolink(which is only a short walk from Amtrak) to the airport to get a car rental. Six flags is really past the urban areas of St. louis and is poorly serviced by the local bus service if at all. City Museum would be a lengthy walk from the Amtrak station but could be shortened by taking the metrolink for a few stops. I assume it looks like your coming from the Chicago area? The train ride is quite enjoyable, but I was looking at the train trip to Chicago for a day trio and couldn't find any that offered the full service dining car for the return, which I think is a must. Some friends and I did this trip 15 years ago and the dinner on the train was the best part. I think you would need at least two days in SL to accomplish your goals with a half day on each end getting to and from the airport/picking up and returing a rental car. Lastly: Don't be scared of the Amtrak station.
SFZIP Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 With 10 days until opening day, here is another Tsunami Soaker update, the pool area of the ride (which the ride sits in/on) is a very deep (probably 8 or 10 feet deep), large diameter concrete pool, much larger than what you think it would be. The operators booth is right in front of Outpost on the side near Ninja, the perimeter around the ride is having telephone pole like (shorter) posts installed to probably give the ride a pier like look when it's done (what it will actually look like when it's done is still a mystery). I really doubt that the path heading over the railroad tracks just north of the Palace Arcade/Flash Pass office will be open until the ride opens, if you go over the railroad tracks there you will basically walk straight into the middle of the ride.
SteveStL Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 It will be a nice addition to the park. Sounds like it will get some good theming too, but it may not fit well with the existing theming around that area. ?? We shall see.
theymitbgi Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Does anyone know officially what process we are going to have to go through to switch over from the current season pass cards to the new fingerprint scanning? I'm just curious if we will need to go to season pass processing again after waiting in it last fall.
bbmchl Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Has anyone ridden one of these before? We did the splash battle ride at Legoland California a couple years ago and got pretty wet, just wondering if I should expect the same. My kids are going to love it, but I am not a big fan of getting completely soaked unless it is a really hot day.
DJeXeL Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I believe the only that's open is Spongebob's Splash Bash @ at Blackpool. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]
StLCPfan Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 If you watch the videos of these rides it appears to be a pretty thin stream of water coming out of each gun. I imagine that would make for a much gentler spraying that more people could tolerate as opposed to a gun with a larger and more forceful water stream that would prevent people like yourself from riding. ^There you go. That was posted while I was typing.
Morgan Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I've ridden SpongeBob's Splash Bash at BPB, and admittedly it was a quiet day and fairly early on, so the ride wasn't full, but we didn't get that wet on it. It uses the same water cannons as found on Mack splash battles, so they can spray a decent amount of water, but you don't have the stationary cannons around the edge of the ride (well I can't remember there being any at BPB), so everybody that is firing is constantly moving, so I doubt you are in for a complete soaking like the splash battles tend to offer.
DJeXeL Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 ^Spongebob's has stationary cannons on the exterior of the ride. This particular water attraction has the potential to be a hit as families love teacup spinning style rides and they also love water rides. I see Mack selling a good amount of these. This particular attraction would have been a great addition to the Boardwalk @ Knott's.
bbmchl Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 It seemed like alot of the soaking we got on the splash battle at Legoland was from the stationary guns. It was a crowded day and the perimeter guns were fully manned and shooting at us non-stop. The boats moved pretty slow so the stationary guns could hold the water stream on you. A few of those hits in addition to the other boats shooting and you get pretty wet. Hopefully first time we are at SFSTL after TS opens is a warm day and I won't be such a wuss and will jump on with the kids.
SFZIP Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 With one week to go until opening day, Tsunami Soaker construction is moving at a quick pace, ride platform is in place and the boats are on site. As the ride starts to take shape the reality is that this ride is way to big for the area it's being put in at, it's extremely close to the railroad tracks (not much room for a path between), almost touches the food office building and blocks the old path that was between the Hannibarrels and the Sound Stage. How the area will look when it's done will be interesting, because right now the ride is looks extremely out of place, I know that it won't fit in with any of the themeing of the surrounding area, but this will be a now likely be a crowded/packed in area in the park (it was dead before).
HWFan Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Does anyone know officially what process we are going to have to go through to switch over from the current season pass cards to the new fingerprint scanning? I'm just curious if we will need to go to season pass processing again after waiting in it last fall. You will not get a new pass. You will use your existing pass like before where a team member will check the picture and scan you in.
supkarma Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I am kind of confused too.. I have a "membership" to Great America that started last summer but plan on going to Six Flags St. Louis' opening day this weekend. I am fine just using that, right? I won't have to do anything before I can get in with my pass?
piedude81 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Hey, TNT! You said a while back that you would try to get us some info on what coasters will be running one train on opening weekend. Do you by any chance have an update on that? Thanks.
HWFan Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I am kind of confused too.. I have a "membership" to Great America that started last summer but plan on going to Six Flags St. Louis' opening day this weekend. I am fine just using that, right? I won't have to do anything before I can get in with my pass? From what I have been told about the membership program you should be able to use it without a problem at any Six Flags park As long as you have a card that is valid for the 2014 Season, you should be good, but even though I am in Guest Relations, I cannot be 100% sure without more information.
HWFan Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Hello everyone! With any questions that have to do with tickets, passes, memberships, etc please call our Guest Information Service to be sure to receive completely accurate information. Everything is case by case, and I do not want employees trying to have to answer questions especially about ticketing here anymore to ensure right information. Of course, you can always call with other questions as well. Thanks! 636-938-5300
SFZIP Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Final Tsunami Soaker update before opening day - the ride has went together extremely fast in the past couple of weeks, the ride is basically together (all the boats are on the platform), the que/operaters booth are both directly in front of Oupost and as I have mentioned before the exit will go through the back of Marquette's Market. Where exactly the guns for the bystanders outside the ride will go I don't know (likely on the que side based on the fact there is very little room surrounding the ride anywhere else), the area looks odd and very different than what it has in past.
bbmchl Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Looking forward to opening weekend. Will be there on Sunday. First up will be the mine train with the kids (which was also my first roller coaster and will always be a sentimental favorite).
Vonni Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I'm certainly looking forward to my visit this Summer! I cant wait to see how Tsunami Soaker changes that area of the Park! This has been such a long Winter and I'm ready to get my ride on! Oh, and Happy Anniversary to me! I have been a member of the TPR Forums for exactly one year!
supkarma Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 We have already left the park for the day. Honestly it had to be one of the worst experiences I've had at any theme park. ..like geagua lake was better. I've been coming down from Chicago for St Louis' opening day for the last 10 years, this was just foolish. Half of the rides were not open. The ones that did open were only half functional. The burger I got from Johnny Rockets was cold and wet. meh. over it. Tradition = Broken
