map2 Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 When I went on to Knotts on Thursday, there was this guy, I think his name was richard, anyways, he says he's been on xcelerator 13,330, or something around the nuber 13, 000. He takes the seats that are empty, and he says he's been on it 30 times just on Thursday, and he's been riding it just about everyday since it opened in 2002
robbalvey Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 I always hear about this crazy guy, but I have NEVER met him!!! I think Guy said he rode with him before our Haunt meet. --Robb
CoasterCrazy Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Every great coaster has a fanatic that rides it over and over again!
Wes Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 ^ In ACEr terms, yes. In "real people who function correctly in the world" terms, no.
Jeezus Juice Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Not only does he ride it everyday, he does this weird "countdown" to himself, usually into his hand, and gets pissed if he messes it up. On top of that he has this strange bag that he always brings with him. Next time you ride Xcelerator, count along with him and see if you can find out whats in his bag. I'd say they were his marbles but he seems to have lost those already!
jarmor Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 LMBAO lol lol I totally agree with you. I didnt wanna say it myself but something seems wrong with dude...does he have a job? I would get so tired of going to the same park every day...
ShoubraStreet74 Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 wow. thats very......excessive :? I have no idea about this but after all those rides, wouldn't it get boring/repetitive? I mean, it still would have the same physical effects, but I'm sure that it would get pretty dull constantly riding the same coaster. :?
CoasterCrazy Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 ^^^I thought the guy was a little bit normal until I read your post!
Skyscraper Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 I saw this guy once, I was visiting the park on weekday, this september. There was nobody in the park that day, everything operating one train and no wait ! When I was in Xcelerator, i noticed an old guy (probably 65 years old) wearing a faded Millenium Force t-shirt. I was surprised that an old guy like him was interested in rolllercoasters. I rode it three times in a row, he was still there... I went back maybe 2 hours later at Xcelerator, he was in the exact same seat and according to the crew, he didn't get off ! At each launch, he was screaming : SCREAM ! It was very annoying... Anyway I think it's kind of sad of going everyday doing the same coaster, get a life man ! Get friends, get mentally sane ! I don't know but don't spend the last years of your lives doing the same thing over and over !
CoasterFanatic Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Is what he is doing considered...cool? If it makes him happy, who cares. I am sure I do all kinds of things that wouldn't be considered cool.
65skylark Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 ^ I agree. I've seen this guy on two different visits. He is not what most people would call "normal" but he seems to enjoy himself. Hell, if I lived in So Cal I'd have at least a few hundred rides on Excelerator for sure and most people would consider that strange.
ShoubraStreet74 Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Not only does he ride it everyday, he does this weird "countdown" to himself At each launch, he was screaming : SCREAM ! The more I learn about this the weirder it gets...
Gnome Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 well, only one thing can explain this, he was abducted by aliens, and was probed to the point as to where he snapped. From then on the only thing that ran in his mind was Xcelerator! But seriously, I want to ride with this guy, I'll look out for him the next time I see him. This reminds me of Mantis man (its probably the same guy! http://absolutelyreliable.com/2004_02_22_rumorarchive.html#107775558777784235
Twister II Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Has any one ever read "Who Moved My Cheese?" by Spencer Johnson? http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0399144463.01.LZZZZZZZ.gif Basicly the whole book is saying is, either you move with the world or sit down and watch it.
calcajun Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 I use to think people would think strange things if they new i liked to visit and hang out at a park once a week. So happy to know i am normal!!!! Oh the stories i could tell. But i can't. not right now anyway.
Real Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 He sounds like he has a mental condition by the things you guys listed. Wierd countdowns to self and get mad if he screws up, etc. That really seems to set it off though. There is a guy at CP that I swear I see everytime I go. Hes got cray white hair and wears a faded MF shirt/sweater combo most of the time. Could it be his long lost twin? Ignore the text...this is someones avatar from thepointol.com Heres the guy
alpengeist04 Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 He may have obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD). If he's enjoying himself and not hurting anyone, I see no problems.
Jeezus Juice Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 He's not alone either. Mantis Man has a posse of about 3 other late age "funtionals" that he runs with. I ran into them (almost literaly) a few weeks ago as I was leaving Montezoomas Revenge. One of the guys sees my Son of Beast shirt and starts bowing to me talking about how it's "The best hyper woodie in the world" and that he "Can't wait for '07". At this point I started backing away and looking for an adult. They were actually at Haunt last week over by Perilous Plunge. I was trying to talk to the son of beast guy but he kept talking about some gay friends of his (?). When the boat was ready to drop Mantis Man leaps up from a bench, strange bag in hand, and starts snapping night photos of the splash with a disposible camera (WTF). While I'm sure that he's not harming anyone or anything, just watching his level of obsession you can tell that he's not really doing it out of enjoyment. It seems like some kind of obligation, like how his day won't be right unless he gets a certain number of rides, or bad things will happen if his countdown isn't right. I'm thinking about doing a documentary of him if I get back to Knotts soon. -JJ
Real Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 ^ Again, that really sounds like an OCD combined with a mental illness. Nothing serious, but enough that has a very different mindset from a normal persons perspective. As for the flash pictures of the splash...lol. Flashes on good cameras only reach 15ft so unless he let the wave hit him...
ParkTrips Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 At this point I started backing away and looking for an adult. I need an adult!! I need an adult!!!! Wow, I thought I was doing good with almost 700 rides on Mind Bender... then I heard about the guy for Boulder Dash and now this?! - Joe, who may ride coasters a lot, but at least knows what a sex life is like

4718 Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Sounds like the dude that shows up at SFMM every once in a while, Flumee (Flumy?). Anyway, he's this old Jewish guy that hits Log Jammer and Jet Stream like crazy, and has people take his picture in the different boats. One of my old supervisors said that when she was in charge of Jet Stream's area, Flumee showed up and wanted the people there to take a pic of him going down the drop in every boat. She said no, but that he could jump from boat to boat in the station and have his pic taken there. He started asking about a long lost single white boat they used to have there, confused the heck out of all the employees but her. Anyway, this guy looks kinda greasy, and like he hasn't washed his clothes in a while, and drags around a bag with pics of him on darn near every water ride around the country.....which he's glad to whip out if you simply ask why he's got the bag. Funny thing is, he won't hit Rapids, guess it's too intense.
coasterfreak11 Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Ther is this guy that we see almost everytime when we go to Sfgam. I go maybe 10 times a year and I live 3 hours away from Sfgam, yet we see him almost every time! He is normally with his wife and he almost always wears a zebra design hat. Because of this, we call him the "Zebra Man". Haha. That is insane he would ride a ride that many times. That just would ruin the coaster for me.
jarmor Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Man all I have to do is ride a coaster everyday to get a thread started about me? <------heads to carowinds to park it on top gun...
