RAWKIN_coaster38
How do you know that dolphins do not want to be captive? You cannot place human emotions on animals as they act more upon instinct than emotion. Dolphins are not placed in tiny areas and I seriously doubt it is possible to force an animal into doing tricks. I agree with XYZ! Personally, I see the dolphin show almost every time I go and they seem really happy. You're right, we can't place human emotion on them, but they definitely don't look miserable. They flip and jump and play even when not commanded to do any tricks (in back area pools where there aren't even shows). During the show, they flip away when given the command for do a trick. Before the show when the music comes on, they swim back and forth and look at the crowd. I don't think depressed animals that hate their lives would be doing these sorts of things. Also, at the last show I went to, several of the dolphins didn't obey the trainer's commands. They didn't want to do the trick, so they didn't do it. And they still got fed by the trainers. All of this is observation, that anyone could see if they actually went to the dolphin show and watched the dolphins at SFDK and observed! Any construction on Tsunami Soaker yet? Yes, go back a few pages and I posted a pic from last Friday.
SethG1
Hi everyone, I am new to the thread so i appreciate your advice! I want to take my two boys (ages 11 and 9) to SFDK tomorrow. We live near Stanford so i don't know how often we will go. (we may go a couple times a year at most). What is the best deal for one adult and 2 kids? Costco? Also, any tips or tricks to make the most of the day tomorrow? is it going to be really crowded? we can get their early and leave late. thanks in advance! Seth If you're going on a Monday in April, I would assume you'll be fine. Some people might be on spring break, but other than that I wouldn't expect large crowds. c0sterfreek
I swam with the Dolphins back in February and you can tell how happy and well treated they are. When were first arrived they were swimming away and the minute they saw people walk in they got so excited and silly. The trainers were amazing with them. The dolphin we had was a very silly one who didn't want to do half the commands at first because she wanted to play with us and the trainer just laughed, gave her her treat and tried again. jray21
2) Anybody else annoyed with the "lock her" situation for Superman? Just a way to make a few bucks off of people, moreso during the summer when that ride will sometimes have two hour waits. I'd say there was someone manning the "lock hers" about 3 out of the 4 times we've gone, and if the ride attendant noticed my girlfriend's fanny pack with our car keys and a few other things when we were about to board the ride, they would usually get annoyed which is kind of funny because the person manning the "lock hers" at the entrance never say anything about the fanny pack. The first time we rode it, a female attendant kind of snapped at my girlfriend yet they didn't make us get off the ride or get rid of the pack. The second day we went, we would just ditch the bag under the fence since there was nobody behind us to see it. The other two times my GF would just place the fanny pack under her sweatshirt and they wouldn't notice. It's just really weird that they enforce this and do nothing about carrying things onto the other coasters, even having free cubbies on some of the other ones. I mean, are people really more likely to drop things on Superman with one real inversion instead of Medusa which I think has 73?Yes, they are. If you would like to see an example of why, watch the TPR video. Both the airtime on the big launch and the slow inversion with hangtime make it much more likely that things could fall out of your hand or pocket than on medusa, where there is no hang time and little airtime. Medusa's inversions mostly have positive Gs which will keep things down rather than throw them out unless that something is in your hand and you drop it. I agree. Superman is much more forceful than Medusa. I once rode Medusa and the guy in front of us had his phone fall out of his pocket on the wheel cover. It went through the entire ride and didn't fall off! I don't think it would have even lasted the first launch on Superman.
Double0Kevin
^ Watch that video closely and you'll see gisco and me almost get decked in the head by a cell phone as we crest the top. That's why they need lockers.

Diamondbacker27
Okay, now I see. But yeah. I think it would be impossible for something to just sit there, even when you go up the lift.

gromithere
Did a quick drop in at SFDK yesterday on my way to the Giants/Dodgers game. Bad outcome on the game in my opinion, but at least I got some rides in and had a great day! Crowds were way lighter than expected as I assumed Spring Break would jam the park a bit. However, it was pretty much walk-ons for every ride. Took some construction pics while I was there. Looks like track work is still going on at Roar, and Tsunami Soaker work is moving right along... No tears lost that Hammerhead wasn't open. Nice day for a walk on the tracks. Digging holes and stuff. Ooooooh. Ahhhhhh.
RAWKIN_coaster38
^Thanks for the update! Glad to see Tsunami coming along nicely. I think my sister was there the same day as you, and it sounded like it was semi-busy. If you only stayed for a short time, maybe you got lucky with the crowds. jray21
^Yeah the running wheels are sort of covered but I can't see how something could stay on them. Sorry, not the wheel covers. I meant the part that the seat bolts to that the wheels are under. The green part. It landed in between where the two seats are bolted, and unless I actually saw it with my own eyes, I wouldn't believe it either!.

The49er
Had a pretty nice day at the park today. I rode SkyScreamer as well as the major steel coasters. Highs: -Shorter lines this time. -Boomerang is still actually decent (maybe it's one of the better Boomerangs?) -Roar has been reopened. We passed on it this time around. Lows: -Kong was significantly worse than I remembered. Thankfully it was a walk-on, but the 270-degree turn was one of the roughest elements I've ever experienced. We're talking full-on body slamming and audible bursts of "Ow! awwww...AW! Ow!" here. -Some girl stole my brother's food after he'd waited for ten minutes and immediately after she'd ordered. EDIT: Didn't take pictures, but Tsunami Soaker has progressed somewhat, and ride vehicles were visible near the park's entrance (in case they weren't already). RAWKIN_coaster38
I'm surprised no one posted this. "Pretty cool seeing Tsunami Soaker come together! Here's one of the nine boats being lowered and installed onto the base on a ride that will soon having you spinning and #SOAKED!" From SFDK Facebook on May 12th It's also going to open on May 31 to the public, with a season pass preview on the 29th. Anyone planning on going? Canobie Coaster
I was thinking about going to Discovery Kingdom this Saturday. How bad should I expect the lines to be since I may not be able to stay all day due to my transportation to and from the park being public transit?
