P. 651: Montezooma's Revenge project terminated?

Recommended Posts

If you go to Buena Park's website and look up April 2017 permits approved, you will find either on the 13th or the 17th a permit for the removal of Boomerang, the hat shop, and everything else. At this time there has been no permit approved for a new attraction posted to the website. I looked thru June. That doesn't mean anything.

Could we be looking at a 2019 project rather than next year?

That makes no sense. Why remove Boomerang, a fairly popular attraction prior to the busy Summer season if they aren't going to begin construction on its replacement until later on? No whatever they have planned they needed all the extra time. Right now they have been working inside The BOP Boardwalk building.

It would a big laugh, if it turned out to be then, but I highly doubt it.

(And I DO expect IT to be OPEN, by the time I do visit, in 2019....twice!)

Everything doesn't have to always make sense to us. Maybe they found a buyer that wants to get it up and running by next year.

That's not how what works? Did CGA immediately replace Invertigo? Did SFMM immediately replace Log Jammer?

First off, when a park decides to remove a ride, they list it on a used ride marketplace through a ride broker. Parks that are looking for used rides go to the marketplace. They don't go around offering to buy rides straight from other parks.

Cedar Fair is not going to list Boomerang for sale until they were ready to remove it, and they weren't going to remove it until they were ready to replace it. Why? Because parks don't ever remove perfectly good rides, especially popular ones, unless they intend to replace it with something new (Six Flags' old ride rotation program not withstanding) and Boomerang was still in good shape and was still very popular. But it was getting expensive to operate. Also, Knott's has never removed a ride without replacing it. Ever.

Invertigo and Log Jammer aren't even good examples for your argument.

Invertigo kept breaking down and as a result was barely even operational. Cedar Fair had no intentions or plans to replace it because they were already planning to sell Great America itself. A broken ride doesn't look good to potential buyers so it was removed with the plan to repair the issues and move it to Dorney. By the time the deal to sell the park fell through Invertigo had already been removed.

And finally to answer the last question. Log Jammer removal began in December 2011 and YOLO Coaster opened June 2013. A year and a half for removal and construction is not that long. So, yes Log Jammer was immediately replaced.

^ You really could have spared us that long explanation, as you're not telling me anything I don't already know.

My point is, parks can make decisions that may not make sense to us, but totally make sense behind the scene. Cedar Point can start work on Mean Streak a year early, and Knotts COULD begin work on a new project with a similar time frame in mind, as we know not the scale of this upcoming project from the outside, unless you know something I don't.

I'm not saying that's what's going to happen, I only threw out the possibility. I know you follow this project every day, but not all of us do. It was a simple question, not someone looking for a fight.

So spare me the lectures and snarky attitude please.

Cedar Fair states 4 new coasters for 2018 and we know 3 so far:

1. Cedar Point RMC conversion of Mean Streak

2. Kings Dominion RMC conversion of Hurler

3. Great America new steal coaster of 110' tall

The 4th is still open but Knott's has the land cleared and the most rumors about their park so far. There still should be time to build a new coaster. They may just be avoiding heavy construction until after the busy summer season. I wouldn't be surprised if they wait to mid-August or even early September to begin construction. Specially if they need to tear up any paths or affect pedestrian traffic in the park.

Yes, most of which is anecdotal and non sensical

but if it's ALWAYS been done a certain way. . . .

(I mean, it's not like someone doesn't come knock on our door at least once a month and ask if we're interested in selling our house. . . I mean, if we wanted to sell, we'd put it on the market and have plans to move. . right????).

note for some: the above is sarcasm -- we DO get someone knocking on our door at minimum once a month, asking if we are interested in selling.

You asked. I took it as needing to be explained. My bad. I can take things too literal sometimes. I meant no offense. I'm sorry.

^There's a delete button (it looks like an X) that you need to learn how to use.

Step One: If you double post and no one else posted after you, hit the X to delete your last post.

Step Two: Read Step One again if you are confused.

No biggie. Thanks for understanding. Let's move on.

So, regarding Sol Spin. Is it just Knott's that seems to have bad luck with Mondial, or is this regular for them? I know this Top Scan was a bit of a variant from the standard design, but not by a whole lot.

In case you hadn't heard, Sol Spin has been closed for about 3 weeks straight.

I believe it's been closed for seasonal maintenance. This has already been addressed above.

Seasonal maintenance? The thing was barely open for two months before it closed.

What has me baffled is that there are no construction workers, engineers, or maintenance guys anywhere near the site (from what I saw when I visited on Thursday). Hopefully it opens up soon, because it is my favorite ride at Knott's when I have a good cycle.

And GR went down for maintenence a couple months after it re-opened. New rides always have quirks to work out.

You're absolutely right. I just took your post too literally because you said "seasonal maintenance," which is very different than "this is a new ride and we need to work out some kinks" maintenance. Seasonal maintenance hardly ever occurs in July.

Speaking about GhostRider, and of course this info.can change without notice,

but the Scheduled Ride Closure for it on the park's site, is...

GhostRider

9/5 - 9/21

Which happens to fall during what could be this year's West Coast Bash schedule, Sept.9-10.

(The weekend after Labor Day weekend, yes? No?)

Just noting this, for those thinking of going to WCB this year.

P.S. Last year, they closed GR up for maintenance, the day after WCB Day at Knott's. And I missed

my chance at getting a cool GR cap, only sold at the little GR souvenirs stand by it's exit. Also closed.
