The Knott's Berry Farm (KBF) Discussion Thread

P. 651: Montezooma's Revenge project terminated?

Given the location, I am not expecting this to be part of any project. I would guess that is for new backstage buildings. Maybe new haunt storage space? Replacing the aging office buildings, or finally moving some departments from trailers to actual offices?

I definitely hope I am wrong though, and this turns out to be the start of the next big project.

The space is not that large and if there would be a giga coaster, the only possibility is the giga coaster going over GhostRider.

Whether it is the coaster we all want or not we dont know yet. However, this still could be for their next attraction. They could be moving other backstage buildings or infrastructure here to then clear out another area later for a ride. Just a thought.

Hopefully this means that there might be something new for KBF in 2012, Giga or not.

But I have one issue with the idea that the clearing is for a Giga... didn't we already establish that Cedar Fair was really bad at keeping secrets? If they were really far enough along in plans for a Giga, wouldn't we have heard more about it by now than some obscure rumors?

There is a rumor that when (if) this coaster starts to go up, every area except Snoopy and Fiesta will be affected. Is it possible that this clearing has to do with a 2012 attraction? Maybe. But me thinks it has to do moreso with GhostRider's rehab. I don't know, haven't seen which area they're referring to.

The wood used for rehab is stored in that area. I'm not saying that clearing couldn't be for the 2012 coaster however.......

From my understanding the area I circled has been cleared on both sides of Ghostrider

Even though the wood for GR rehab is stored in the area, why after all these years would they need to clear the area out if it's just for GR rehab and wood storage?

"They cleared that area because they need somewhere to store all of that Rocky Mountain topper track." - The dippin' dots guy.

What? He told me it was for the next wooden aquatrax coming in 2012!

^Who says Knott's can't get two coasters that run like crap in the same year? (a la X/Deja Vu)

Giga + Blitz = The greatest move in theme park history that will NOT happen unless Kinzel reads this thread.

^^Also, it's funny how GhostRider is oriented to the north and east.

In all seriousness, I don't think land clearing over by a rehabbed ride that also sees a lot of construction during Haunt (that time of year) has anything to do with an attraction next year. Now if say, a warehouse or Lakeside Terrace or Perilous Plunge just mysteriously vanished, I'd be a tad bit more inclined to say something big was in the works.

or Perilous Plunge just mysteriously vanished,

Someone deson't like the only one boat operations of Perilous

Can't say I like them either but hey, if it's open, and it has less than a ten minute wait, I'll ride it.

Perilous Plunge's 1-train operation is so frustration, at least they can add 1 more boat.

I was just at the park today and here are a few comments...

-The park was absolutely dead. Even with one train operations on everything except Sierra Sidewinder, no lines were longer than five minutes. However, some of the operators were a bit slower than normal, although I attribute this to possible new employees (it looked like they were training new employees for haunt, as there was a supervisor at every attraction and one rode with the driver (who stumbled on every other line) on the mine ride)

-The cleared area by GhostRider looks too small and too far from the walkway to be for a new ride, at least directly. It could be indirectly related, as in a relocation spot for other backstage buildings, but I would be very surprised if a new ride goes here.

-Windseeker is really good. I've been somewhat skeptical of this attraction since it was announced, but now that I've been on it I think it is one of Knott's best non-coaster attractions. It isn't really scary (unless you're afraid of heights), but does feel a lot higher than I thought it would. The ride cycle is a little shorter than I was expecting, but it's still long enough, and the music is a nice touch (although difficult to hear at the top).

-The Sky Cabin is still closed, but was going up and down during the day. I got a good look at it, and it appeared that all the windows were removed. Perhaps they are getting it ready for a reopening, and it will have new windows that are easier to see out of.

-Haunt construction is going on all over the park, but that is typical for this time of year.

-GhostRider is down for maintenance (there were people doing work on the track), and Perilous Plunge is still closed for some reason. I know it suffers downtime on a regular basis, but it has now been closed on all four of my visits this year. As for the one-boat operations debate, I honestly don't think the line would move too much faster with both boats. Due to the nature of the ride, it is a slow loader and a low capacity attraction. I really like it and I'm willing to wait around an hour for it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets removed in the near future to make room for a replacement.

Also, as for the other recent post, Soak City is more in need of a new slide/complex than Knott's is in need of a new coaster. I wouldn't be surprised if both get their most rumored addition (giga for Knott's and raft slide for Soak City) in 2013.

I definately agree, and I wouldn't even mind waiting another year for any new addition. It can be nice to just take a break for a year.

I still think Soak City needs a new addition more badly than Knotts does at the moment.

I totally 100% agree with this.

Soak City can become PACKED, but it has very few slides. With the crowds it gets, it should have at least twice the amount of slides it currently has.

Back to Knott's, a clearing of an area leaves the possibility of a new coaster open to question. If it is a new coaster, I hope it is something good. The last "good" coaster to come to knotts was Xcelerator in '02. There has been nothing that would influence my choice to visit Knott's since, except MAYBE Silver Bullet.
