Guy T. Koepp
I love those kinds of drop towers. You can see the rush of wind on the trees next to it. So awesome!
Gutterflower
Great report as always. I've always like the way Formosa looked and think they add some nice themes to what would otherwise be some fairly standard rides. Â Following this whole trip with great interest as planning the exact same trip later this year (November time possibly). How are you finding getting around? From my research so far the infrastructure looks very good but there's not substitute for someone with first hand experience of it.

From my research so far the infrastructure looks very good but there's not substitute for someone with first hand experience of it. We've hired a Taiwanese guide and bus. Gave them the list of where we needed to go and when, and we've not had to worry about much else, other than the park relationships.

Guy T. Koepp
Isn't there like a huge stopper that holds the train from the front during the lift? It seems to me that the default setting for it would allways be on until it is electronically disengaged. Â Still scary as F^

robbalvey
Isn't there like a huge stopper that holds the train from the front during the lift? There are two things that hold the train in place.... Here is the giant stopper at the front of the train. And here is the thing that clamps onto the bar on the back of the train. This is actually what holds the train in place. Edited June 21, 2013 by robbalvey

Garet
I'm really fascinated by the tilt concept ! It looks amazing and I'm glad to hear it's fun! I hope we see one state side one day ! Â It may have been one of TPR's videos but i'm sure there was an IAAPA interview where the question was asked and they said that they wouldn't be making any more of these things, which is kind of sad i'd love to try one one day. robbalvey
Today's update is about two parks in Taiwan, but mostly about Gravity Max. For those of you that don't know, Gravity Max is the totally f**ked up "Vekoma Tilt Coaster" and it's the only one of it's kind in the world. Apparently, some people had no idea this was actually a real coaster and thought it was just some crazy idea in Roller Coaster Tycoon. Â Nope! It really exists, and it's really freaking scary!!! It also was really damn good! Shame the concept never took off. Â Anyway, here's some photos an a video. Be sure to WATCH this video! Some amazing footage of the Vekoma Tilt Coaster! So here is the entrance to Lihpao Land, or Discovery World, or whatever they are calling the park this week... The park was quite nice, but who cares? It has this ride! Yeah, so this is totally happening today. Elissa is legit freaked out of this ride. She's been having nightmares of the ride falling off the track and creating the most spectacular catastrophic accident! HOLY EFFING SH*T!!! WTF?!! HOLY BALLS!!! Here's what you see before the ride starts to tilt. Yeah, it's totally screwed up!!! NINETY DEGREES!!!!! Elissa's 100% natural reaction as soon as the train dropped! "I actually LOVED IT!!!!" Here's one for the lift hill losers. Walking the plank... Going down.... "Oh, please let them line up correctly!!!" This is the moment where most people begin to crap their pants. Everyone freaks out as soon as that train lets go! This is what it looks like behind you! Oh, yeah, there's a really intense vertical loop on the ride too! Gravity Max seriously does kick ass! Tilting... This is the bar is used to hold the train in position. And this grabber guy is the dude that holds onto that bar as the track tilts. This little doo-hickey is another failsafe that stops the train from just flying off the track. Seriously messed up... "Please don't fall on me!!!!" Pictures really cannot describe enough the "OH SHIT!!!" factor that goes through your brain at this very point of the ride. Keep forgetting it has a loop! lol It just does not look right! Loop - De - LOOP!!!!! Oh, yeah, here's what it looks like when it's re-setting after the train has dropped. There was also another credit, but really, who cares? After one of the most terrifying experiences of my roller coaster riding career, it just doesn't even matter! KidTums says "It matters to me!!!" Ok, fair enough... This might be the most clever name for a ride...EVER!!! it was for a kids snail ride. Amazing! lol Creepy tree guy... Here was the park map. They had a few flats and a pretty decent looking log flume, etc... but after Gravity Max... wow! Ok, time to head to our next park... Our next stop was "Shan GriLa Paradise" home to a Blizzard coaster. Oh, joy... These are normally insanely BRUTAL coasters. This one wasn't that bad. At least it didn't try to kill us multiple different ways. Don't those restraints look awesome? Yup, it was there. We ended the night at Leofoo Village Resort, which is kind of like a mini-Animal Kingdom Lodge. This is a zebra, although if you're British it's pronounced zebra. Yo, hippo. Hows it hanging? I like to move it, move it.... Dinner buffet included unlimited beer. This is almost dangerous! But needed after a day that included Gravity Max! VERY IMPORTANT PSA!!!! If you don't flush, the poop monster will get you!!!
hyyyper
Brilliant, what an awesome coaster. Thanks for sharing! Â But out of curiosity, were you able to find out anything on why only one of these exists? Perhaps because of the reliability, cost or complexity of the tilt system? The Westate
^ The lawyers probably won't allow one in America. Â The people that can't make a catch car work half the time on their boomerangs, makes this thing work? Â I would be scared to death.
SuperShawn
Everything about Gravity Max just seems wrong, making it all the more confusing to hear about how good it is. Glad to hear it's a winner though and loved watching all the video footage.
Garet
I noticed Elissa said smoothest Vekoma, so this even meets out millenium at fantasy island for that title then? I wish vekoma would make more i'd love to see this on more vekoma rides.
FreeFaller
AWESOME footage! I enjoyed watching it! It definitely IS a freakin' SCARY coaster!!! Thanks a lot!
