robbalvey Posted April 11, 2013 Author Posted April 11, 2013 We ended up having TWO videos today! First is one of the best Intamin coasters out there... Ride of Steel at Darien Lake! And the second is us having a bit of fun on a Wacky Worm at Adventure Landing last weekend in Jacksonville! EVERY REPLY YOU MAKE HERE WILL GIVE YOU ONE ENTRY TO WIN A BAG-O-CRAP! (Yes, multiple comments DO count for more than one - but don't be stupid and post like 20 times in a row and keep your posts ON TOPIC with the videos!)
bert425 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 at first I thought Ride of Steel might be dull. . it doesn't seem to do much. . .but dang if that sucker doesn't haul! and those pops of air near the end. looks like lots of fun
scbt Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I must say, the layout of RoS works A LOT better at DL than the same layout at SFA.
robbalvey Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 (edited) I must say, the layout of RoS works A LOT better at DL than the same layout at SFA. I'm not sure what you mean by this. The two rides are exactly the same. I've ridden them both when they are running in "top form" and they are identical. Edited April 12, 2013 by robbalvey
netdvn Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I like how ROS flies over the water. Even if it does look a little murky, it's a nice setting. Looks like it should be repainted though. The red color is pretty faded.
GO MUFC!!! Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Iv'e been on the SFA twin and it was great.Plenty of airtime plus you take the helixes so fast. Great video Robb!
Whodey Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 The water on ROS makes it more fun especially the first turn. While riding in the back, it is funny to see everyone drop their hands coming out of the helix because they think their hands will get chopped off.
Coaster Curt Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 ROS certainly has a different layout, but man does it haul ass. I would really like to ride that one day.
ProwlerPrey Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I've always found the RoS layout a bit strange with its huge drawn-out helices and that big straight part after the first helix. Still looks like it packs a good amount of airtime though.
EPfan1 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Superman looks awesome! (Like nearly every intamin coaster)! It seems to have some nice airtime! The wacky worm must be fun though it's a kiddie coaster Never had the chance to ride one yet
cfc Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Is it awkward just going straight on ROS? "Going straight" is awkward?
TyRush Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Is it awkward just going straight on ROS? "Going straight" is awkward? Haha, isnt that weird on a hypercoaster? It just seems like Intamin was out of ideas there and just threw in a straight section. It is definitley different though
rcjp Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 ^ I was thinking the same. I mean, the one at D Lake is not that bad as you go over the water but the one at SFA just feels like they didn't bother to put anything else there (like one or more airtime hills).
CoasterBone Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 If you ask my high school girlfriend, going straight is quite awkward for me.
scbt Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I must say, the layout of RoS works A LOT better at DL than the same layout at SFA. I'm not sure what you mean by this. The two rides are exactly the same. I've ridden them both when they are running in "top form" and they are identical. I mean that at SFA, the long straight stretches over flat ground seem just rather boring, while at DL, the straight stretches are right above the lake. It just seems like they took the lazy road at SFA and cut/pasted the ride there.
robbalvey Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 Today's daily video is a small, but fun family woodie! The Comet at Waldameer! How many of you have ridden this? EVERY REPLY YOU MAKE HERE WILL GIVE YOU ONE ENTRY TO WIN A BAG-O-CRAP! (Yes, multiple comments DO count for more than one - but don't be stupid and post like 20 times in a row and keep your posts ON TOPIC with the videos!)
netdvn Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Both ROS coasters could seriously benefit from having props, tunnels, and flamethrowers on the flat speed portions. It would definitely make for a more interesting ride.
TyRush Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Looks like it packs a family punch! Love how its under heavy vegation
rcdude Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 While Ride of Steel might not be a top ten coaster for the experienced enthusiast, it is still a really good ride. Every hill on the ride had strong airtime no matter where you were sitting, and the helixes delivered reasonably strong positive G's. The flat straight sections, especially the one after the first helix, were actually more fun than I expected as you'd be going along and just when it started to get dull you'd be ejected as the train went over the hill. Comet was a fun junior woodie, essentially a slightly downsized version of the Ghoster Coasters. I do think the Ghoster Coasters are better rides, but Comet definitely had a better setting and was a great takeover ride on the LeviaTHON trip.
Whodey Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Nothing like a woodie in the woods even if it is smaller than average.
EPfan1 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I understood 90 degrees, too Looks a bit rough but still cool The world needs more small woodies like this one
mikeykaise Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I love the old school woodies. They're rough but nothing beats the rumble, shudder, and smell of an old wooden coaster.
