^ Awesome shot of the entry at dusk! That will be the view as the park is closing, really. The moon and the arriving planes to McCarran.

Also, slide assembly WHOO!

Something I always thought would be fun, would be to have night time hours at a water park! I think there are very few places in the US that could achieve this cause normally its cold at night, but in Vegas....ITS HOT ALL THE TIME in the summer. I would most definitely love to see the park open on some of the hotter weekend nights in the summer. It would really add a unique experience and you could take this water park to a new level with lighting and music once the sun sets. Not make it an adult thing, but offering a uniquely night time experience for the whole family could be really awesome!

^That would be great. I think that Florida water parks could do this in the summer, as well--but maybe there's a bit too much competition from other attractions in the evening. It's certainly warm enough on many summer nights for Water Country USA in Williamsburg.

I just never understood why some water parks didn't have any night time stuff going on on hot summer nights. I know its a staffing thing and its a decision that would be made only a few days out. But planning ahead for extended hours would work (Disney does this all the time) and in Vegas, its easier cause when it warms up, you know its going to stay warm for months, so you can really plan properly for staffing and such.

Come on Shane! Lets see this park open at night!

^^ I actually asked Shane about night operation during our hard hat tour the other day. He said that it won't happen this season and he's not sure about future seasons. The costs of operation far outweighs the amount of money being brought in at that point. I'll let him get into more detail, of course.

They will have the proper infrastructure, though, to install lighting throughout the park...

But if you plan, advertise and do cool things, it would be a unique attractions. Even closing at dusk and reopening for a special night time summer event weekly (also what Disney does with special events like Halloween and Xmas) it could work.

^ I agree, but here's another thing you need to take into account: The park is sandwiched between heavy residential areas. I'm pretty sure Shane would rather keep the neighbors happy right off the bat. In the future I'm sure there will be talks with the local HOAs to see just what kind of events could happen. I'm not saying it WON'T happen, I'm just saying it won't happen right NOW.

I'm excited to see construction of this park as I'll be visiting Vegas in June and this is one of my must-do activities (for reference Wet 'n' Wild is only a maybe). I can't wait to see everything go vertical and hear what everyone thinks when the park opens. I'm sure it will be a great park.

I'm not sure there is really a heavy market for night time water park visits. Even a lot of the pools in Vegas close at dusk, it's just not as popular as you might think.

It is fun however. When I worked at Cedar Point in 2005, they had half of Soak City open for employees until 2am on the 4th of July. It was a ton of fun! I'm not sure it would be successful on a consistent basis though, maybe as a seldom event (like 2-4 times a year maybe).

When I worked at the original Wet n' Wild next to the Sahara hotel, we originally stayed open till 10pm. But we found that as soon as the sun set, people just bailed. They changed the weekday hours to 7 and weekends to 8, but as the sun set, the place just emptied. They ended up selling private event time and we would have a few of those a month, and they would go pretty late. But aside from that, nights were pretty much a ghost town.

Besides the potential noise, lighting is certainly a huge concern, especially if people are walking around barefoot. The place would need to be very well light, both increasing overhead and possible annoyance from neighbors.

The simple reason is after 7:00 the expense of operating the park outweighs the in-park dollars spent. In a theme park guests have money readily available (their wallet is in their back pocket). They want to keep you in the park as long as possible because between riding rides you are buying food, playing games, retail shopping, etc. At a water park you typically don’t have your wallet on you. Purchases are not impulse. It requires you to dry off, go to your locker, then return to your locker…you see what I mean?

Admission sales typically drop to practically nothing after 3:00 so every hour later you stay open equates to a high operating cost. There is a sweet spot of giving the guests the time in the park equated to the ticket price vs. extra hours (open later) and that sweet spot typically falls somewhere between 6:00 - 8:00.

“Breaker 1-9” slide is coming together. Why the name? Breaker refers to waves and 1-9 refers to a movie I used to love as a kid, Convoy. I thought it a fun play on words.

Thanks for the explanation regarding later hours for water parks, Shane--makes sense.

^ Oh my, that enclosed blue bodyslide looks awesome! Just a simple curve but it would be so fun!

For those of you who want to experience a Waterpark at night, I would recomend Tropical Island in Berlin/Germany which is open 24 hours. Plus you can even sleep there

Is that the one who is built in the old fly hangar?
