My favorite ride was always the Tri-Star. I was sad the day it was removed from Riverside and they seem to have gone into a near extinct state over the years. A real bummer!

I was starting to wonder if I was the only one that even remembered that ride. I only got to get on it once, shortly before it was removed. It was so good, and I've never been on another since. Idlewild had one for a while, but they removed it shortly before I had a chance to get there. I don't know of any others =/

I for one picked the Take Off - the best of those is operated by german showmen Rüth. It's the only Take Off I know where the program contains that the compartments spin in the same direction as the main plate - this way the Gs add up to amazing force!

My other favs include:

Break Dancer No. 2 - The big Dancer version with 5 instead of 4 gondola quartets operated by showmen Dreher & Vespermann, this Dancer is even more forceful than the smaller standard variant

Mega Dance (also known as Flic Flac) - totally insane, we've the traveling Devil Rock on the carnival circuit

Booster - see above entry about insanity, loved the Kieppi at Linanmaki

Frisbee is also cool but a more family friendly ride. I'm not so fond of the Top Spins mostly because I don't like the rotating movements too much. I also like the Ranger but prefer the more seldom found Weber Traumboot as the cabin is taller which fits better my height.

I would have to go with the Giant Frisbee. MaxAir is one of my favorite flats.

I did not know a Tri-Star actually existed in the states.

There were at least two, Tri-star at Riverside Park, until 2000-ish when it became Six Flags New England, and Tornado (I think) at Idlewild, until a few years ago.

flic flac for me please!!

Aghh! No! Thought I was gonna die on the one at Tivoli Gardens.

I'm not a flat-ride person, but swinging ships, Condors, and Rainbows can be fun.

The classic Top Spin is my favorite. I remember when the Myrtle Beach Pavilion got one, I thought it was the coolest ride ever. Of course the ride quality depends so much on the program. That video of some operator making it spin 70 times in manual mode shows just how crazy it can get.

Suspended Top spin is it for me. I like them because they're not giving me a major hit like the classic top spin give me (I'm talking about the sudden speed and brake when a classic goes upside down). And the Suspended is a lot of fun.

Of the choices listed I probably would have picked the Breakdance if I had not ridden a TakeOff.

I've never had a great cycle on one of these, maybe I'm just unlucky!!

Love the Huss Giant Frisbees...they are one of the few remaining rides that will still give me that giddy feeling in my stomach.

Although I admit that after Googling some of the one's I have never heard of (Booster, Take-Off), some of those look pretty good too!

My favorites are the Troika, Giant Frisbee, UFO, Rodeo/Breakdance and Condor. Too bad when Huss restructured themselves that they did away with a lot of rides from their impressive catalog.

There's also this ride that I thought was really cool and has been already mentioned before. It's Trinado at Idlewild, the Huss Tri-Star. I think this was taken in 2006 as I was able to ride it on what was its last season at the park.

Pleasurewood Hills in the TPR

2006 UK Tour had one of those ^

and called it Thunderstruck.

I and a few others rode it while

we were (at the time) still waiting

in line to ride another coaster called

(hah) Enigma....

I liked this flat and wished we had one

of them at my home park.

(EDIT to Add: Tivoli's 'Flic Flac' ride op = EVIL; Linannmaki's 'TakeOff' = WILD!)

It was my Very First One. And I LIKED IT! (o:

Does anyone know what happened to Riverside's Tri-Star or Idlewild's Tornado? Are either of them still around anywhere?

Posted

I used to love the rainbow but from what I can remember about it there was some kind of incident and all of the rainbow's were taken out of service. I have no idea what they did with them all or if this applies worldwide but something tells me we will never see a rainbow operated again. If anyone knows of an actual Huss rainbow operating somewhere in the world speak up!

Besides that it is definitely the enterprise for me, might just be my favorite flat ride ever.

I have no idea what happened to Riverside's... but given that most of the existing attractions were ripped out in the first couple of years that Premier Parks was there I would venture to guess it was scrapped.

I almost forgot about that ride! It was fantastic. Sounds like you get the TPR extendo-cycle . Bill, Jon and I were dying after five minutes of flic flac lol

Hard to believe that we don't see any Rainbows around--those were a staple at a lot of carnivals and fairs. I remember the ones at the CNE and Maple Leaf Village (where Casino Niagara is now). They look awesome at night.

Well Liseberg had a Rainbow... but that one crashed so perhaps those rides haven't endured so well with age.

I put my vote on the Booster mainly because of an omg-I'm-gonna-die-experience at the Hamburger SommerDOM.

But the breakdance, top spin/2, flic-flac, frisbee and Take-Off aren't far behind at all.

Yeah, they tore out a lot of great rides. I was hoping to hear that maybe it was sold to someone else who was taking good care of it...but that doesn't seem likely.

This is "Crazy Wagon", a HUSS Rainbow Ride located at Hopi Hari, here in Brazil. The attraction opened in 1999, and until today, works perfectly, although some 2 large periods of maintenance, when Crazy Wagon was dismounted for about 6 months. Also, TUV SUD inspects the ride every year.

I'll go with the Giant Frisbee. Out of the rest that I've ridden, Boosters are awesome because they are insane and Enterprises are just a nice relaxing ride with some weird G's, those would take 2nd and 3rd place.

Posted

First: Suspended Top Spin

Second: Breakdance (It would tie with STS if I had been on one within the past 3 years.)

Third: Frisbee (Or Giant Frisbee, whichever one was the one at Kings Island)

Fourth: Enterprise

Fifth: Rainbow

The only other one I've been on is a Troika. Other than that, I haven't been on any other HUSS flat ride.

I don't know if anyone caught this, but Huss re-introduced the Condor as Condor 2G this year...It's essentially the exact thing but with improved features and an improved ride design. Now let's see if anyone ever wants to invest in a Huss ride ever again
