cfc Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Verbolten was pretty much what I expected it to be--not a "top ten" contender, but a unique, enjoyable ride that I like quite a bit. It was good to see BGW "stretch" a bit. It seems to be a hit with the public, too.
mike_kelly Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Most overrated, I would have to say both B&M wingriders I rode. After having ridden X2, I was quite bored with both X Flight and Wild Eagle. Everything else I rode was pretty on par except for Intimidor at Carowinds, (but it wasn't new this year) it kind of sucked, too much trimming, and rough. Diamondback 10 times the coaster.. I know I am off subject.

Nope, But I was expecting something more thrilling, to put in my top 25 list. But the roll back on Kingda Ka put it at the top of my #1 all time faves list..
SharkTums Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 (edited) So what were the actual 2012 rides we're going off of? Cars Land at DCA Deja Vu at SFNE X-Flight at SFGAm Wild Eagle at Dollywood Superman at SFDK Leviathan at Canada's Wonderland Verbolten at Busch Gardens Williamsburg SkyRush at Hersheypark New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Manta at Sea World San Diego OzIris at Parc Asterix Swarm at Thorpe Park Wodan at Europa Park Divertical at Mirabilandia Shambhala at Port Aventura So looking at that list, NOT thinking about my own disappointments, but thinking about which one was the most OVER RATED...I would have to say Leviathan, Wild Eagle, or Oziris. Leviathan - So many Canadian fanboys said how awesome it was and how much airtime it had...please. Wild Eagle - Look, we all love Dollywood, but this ride is just there. Oziris - All the Europeans told us how great and forceful it was and how B&M was back to their old style. No. *Note I'm not counting a bunch of Windseekers, Water Rides, Chinese stuff that very few people rode, or Dinosaurs Alive...please feel free to post big ones I've forgotten about! SharkTums Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 ^Good one, thanks! Can't imagine how I forgot another cookie cutter B&M!?!?
ernierocker Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Wild Eagle - Look, we all love Dollywood, but this ride is just there. I thought I heard you shriek with excitement during the entire ride... oh wait, that was just you gasping for air from the restraints.

cfc Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Wild Eagle - Look, we all love Dollywood, but this ride is just there. I thought I heard you shriek with excitement during the entire ride... oh wait, that was just you gasping for air from the restraints. Wild Eagle was pretty much what I expected it to be--with a nice view. I didn't have a problem being "squeezed" by the restraints, but I did bang my knee a few times on that little bar next to the inside front seat.
SharkTums Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 (edited) ^From my bit of research into the WingRider restraint constricting problem it seems to effect smaller people much more than larger people. I really don't like the restraints at all, they make it so I can't take a deep breath!!! Edited November 3, 2012 by SharkTums
chickenbowl Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 ^ I really hate complaining about coasters, but Wild Eagle's restraints were really tightened on my collar bones and chest, leaving an uncomfortable ride. I thought I was the only one, but I guess not. Do the other Wingriders have the same problem?
MrSum1_55 Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 I did not really notice the Wild Eagle restraints when I was on the ride, but once I hit the brakes, I instantly wanted to get off. I thought sitting on the block with those restraints was worse than sitting in the block of a flying coaster. B&M is good at a lot of things, but block brake comfort is not one of them. Still, I found Wild Eagle to be my most overrated new ride. It is a slight step up from B&M's typical intensity level, but it still comes nowhere close to contesting their older designs.

Some in the group I was with had trouble with the restraints, too.

I'm assuming the others are two. I've heard reports from smaller people that Swarm did the same.

Superman Ultimate Flight @ SFDK I don't know if if it got enough "hype" to be considered "most over-hyped", but it was a pretty big new attraction for 2012 that's just OK. AND it had the oh-so-awesome national news "rider's stuck for xx hrs". I haven't ridden Leviathon, but I'd say it was BY-FAR the MOST HYPED of 2012 (being the 1st b&M Giga), and seemed to sorta fall flat with the reviews I've read. I'm sure it's a really good ride, but was sooooo hyped, it couldn't live up to it. -Mr Bebe
deathbydinn Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 X Flight has the problem as well. I've never had problems breathing, but a few rides have left the restraints pushing down on my shoulders. Having ridden it a lot I've been able to find the spots that really push the restraints down, so I push up on them then which pretty much takes away any discomfort on the brake run. Hopefully B&M can come up with something to keep the restraints from moving soon though as it would be nice to not have to think during the ride.

That's a real bummer because I felt like I couldn't fully enjoy the coaster due to being compressed like that. I'm not sure where it affected most people, but it mostly hurt on my shoulders and chest. Maybe I just need to bulk up a bit!

AND it had the oh-so-awesome national news "rider's stuck for xx hrs". -Mr Bebe It's funny how that ride worked out. Prior to opening everyone was so down on it for it's capacity and thinking it wouldn't be all that great. Then after it opened and turned out to be rather good with decent capacity, everyone acted like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I think it was so well received on the west coast because we don't really have anything like it, mainly something with airtime. Were it to be built at another park like SFGAdv where they have El Toro and Kingda Ka, I highly doubt it would have gotten the same reaction. All in all I think it holds its own to not be considered "overrated." Most overrated I would say is X2. I know it opened years ago and technically doesn't qualify, but for some reason fan boys still think it's the best ride ever. Yeah, it's unique, like a dominatrix beating you in public is unique.

Yeah, not quite staying on topic are we? The block brake was definitely where I felt the most discomfort with Wild Eagle's restraints. Just not a fan of not being able to breath.
Philrad71 Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I didn't ride too many of the new rides this year, but I would also have to go with Skyrush. As much as I hate to complain about restraints, everyone that was in our crew (five) that rode it all said the same thing...the restraints were too painful. That and the silly loading platform left me feeling that the coaster was a bit over-rated...plus the fact that it seemed that a lot of Intamin fans were dubbing it one of the best coasters ever, left me feeling a bit disappointed after riding it. On the other hand, I though Leviathon was a great coaster and much better than I really thought it was going to be. I guess I can understand why some were disappointed by all the hype it got, but I found it to be an overall fun, very re-rideable coaster. My fellow coaster enthusiasts that were on both trips to Hershey and CW also gave Levi a huge edge. I guess our preference is for the floaty, fun coasters versus one that is literally trying to beat the crap out of you and throw you into a ditch. Of course, being on the Levi Bash and not having to wait in line...and riding it about ten times in a row without getting off may have played into some of that judgement too!
andybarnes84 Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Being honest with myself, I'll controversially say Verbolten. It's a great addition for the family audience but didn't wow me anywhere near as much as I hoped, thought the scenery in the ride building was cheap and it just seemed to lack intensity where I had expected to find it. The trains also rattled like a Lada. As I said a fun ride for the family demographic and certainly a cut above average for theming but not one that pulls me back to BGW.
Mrlittle Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 I am going to agree with Wild Eagle. I would of put Verbolten as most overrated but I rode it at night and what a difference that made. Wild Eagle was my first wing coaster so I was a little excited for something new. I mean it was not a bad ride, it just did not live up to my expectations. I will say that the night ride on Wild Eagle is different since you get blinded during the ride from all the photo flashes.
