ernierocker Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Â Good to see that not all of the former rides at Opryland became scrap metal.
mightypotato Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Oh man...I must have gone through almost $5 in quarters on the water cannons that day. I really enjoyed Great Escape too...it was a ton of fun and didn't feel like a Six Flags. Â Magic Forest was....interesting. Let's leave it at that.
Erik Johnson Posted August 13, 2011 Author Posted August 13, 2011 (edited) Six Flags Great Adventure! Â Â After five visits I have to say that this is still my favorite Six Flags in the entire chain (I have been to all of them except Mexico and Discovery Kingdom). Six Flags Over Texas and Georgia are a close second and third. Overall, the ride operations were simply amazing. They had multiple trains on everything, and the ride ops really hustled getting people on and off the rides. Operations were simply night and day when compared to La Ronde. While I do not have many general park photos in this update, we were given a super rare opportunity to have both a Nitro and Kingda Ka walkback tour. Again, thanks to Robb and Elissa for organizing this amazing trip. I will have another update after this one with my individual coaster reviews. Good morning Six Flags Great Adventure! We meet again Chang....I mean Green Lantern. For whatever reason, I found the ride to bash me up a lot more as Green Lantern. Maybe it was revenge because I thought that the new movie was not very good. The old Chiller station is still here. Not many people get the chance to do go under this. It was pretty amazing opportunity to walk back here. First drop goodness! Nitro doing what it does best. The full first drop. First drop from a distance. Off the Mid. Nitro Nitro Nitro's big drop after the first turnaround. Hammerhead! Trim! A little more sunlight is always good. The hammerhead looks funky from this angle. The hammerhead really is quite tall. Nitro Hammerhead and trees. Remember to get a secured box folks. Nitro is still one of the best B&M hypers. I am finally happy to be able to get good photos of the layout. Nitro I can't wait to see what kind of photos were taken with some of the nicer cameras. Funky supports! Bonus walkback! Most people only can get shots like this. Or maybe even this. If you are on a TPR trip, you get perks like this. Kingda Ka station. Here they go! Water is constantly running to help keep everything cooler. Kingda Ka doing what is does! All 450 feet of Kindga Ka. Still the tallest in the world. It reaches 128 mph right here. It reaches around 100mph on the return trip. Hanging out with Kingda Ka. You get dizzy trying to look at the very top from this angle. We are directly under the ride now. I bet that is a scary elevator ride. Yeah, it seriously would be a scary elevator ride. Support! From behind the ride. It really is a long way up to the top of the tallest coaster in the world. We see you Rolling Thunder! Both sides were running today...and they were trying to race them. For me, this part of the ride is pretty scary. Kingda Ka! The sheer force of an 128mph launch. It is pretty impressive being this close to it. I never tire of looking at the top from here. It is time to head back. Thank you TPR and Six Flags for this once in a lifetime tour. Kindga Ka launch! Everyone has this shot. Two lines in either direction. Very cool! Overview of the park. After five visits to the park, I finally got to experince this cool attraction. Edited August 13, 2011 by Erik Johnson
Austin11KD Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 I LOVE the photos of Kingda Ka, gets me nervous to know I'm gonna ride that thing in 5 days! WOOHOO!
Ed Farmer Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 ^Ah, awesome TR! Did you get to explore Montreal at all? I've heard great things aboot that city. Â If this was intentional, great. If not, even better.
Erik Johnson Posted August 13, 2011 Author Posted August 13, 2011 No El Toro??? Â Â Hah, I did ride it 6 or 7 times that day. The hour of evening ERT was simply amazing! Sorry I did not take any photos of it this time around. I have plenty of them from previous visits.
Carnage Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Nice TR! Â I see a few familiar faces in there.
ernierocker Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 No El Toro??? Â If you need to see pictures of El Toro that bad then just go to the TPR Park Index and look at the pictures on there. Â Great TR, Erik! Looked like you guys got some amazing perks!
beatle11 Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Those walk backs were amazing. Gotta get my photo's off my SD card.
paiging_jen Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Â I would like to thank Neil for blocking a significant amount of wetness from reaching me right behind him.
beatle11 Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Here's a few of the better pictures I took with my camera. Â The first drop! Hammerhead! We got really close! Kingda Ka! Twisty!! Awesomeness! Â Thanks Robb, Elissa and Six Flags Great Adventure for giving us this unique opportunity!
The SETGO Guys Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 I guess Green Lantern wasn't running to great that day. I had rode Green Lantern a week before and I found it to be a really good ride. (It was my first B&M Stand-up) I rode back row and had no problems. Â Great pictures! -Zach
Jerrykoala2112 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Great Adventure was a fantastic way to end the North East trip! It was nice following all your reports, so I thank you for posting them all. Even though you didn't get many shots of El Toro, I think everyone knows just how awesome it is!
robbalvey Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 No El Toro??? Ugh, are you kidding me? Erik posts TONS of backstage photos of two of the most popular rides in the park, photos that you cannot rarely ever see, and you bitch about no El Toro photos? Â Seriously your posts annoy me, and I'm sick of it. Next time you are this rude and stupid towards one of our moderators your account will be banned. Â --Robb
Sir Clinksalot Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Awesome stuff Erik. I love the backstage shots!!!
B.A.B Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 I love those shots, also I think it is sad to see chiller's old station there being rotted away. All in all I think these should be in a TPR maginze or something on how good they are.
Roachman Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Awesome back stage pics Erik! Glad you got to ride Houdini!
Erik Johnson Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 I love those shots, also I think it is sad to see chiller's old station there being rotted away. All in all I think these should be in a TPR maginze or something on how good they are. Â Â Thanks! They are still using the old Chiller station for a Halloween Haunt, so it is still getting some use.
Geauga Dog Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Thanks for the photos. You got a lot of great shots, especially those of Nitro and Kingda Ka, which are amazing! Â The Great Escape looks like a very nice park and it's also nice to see it not looking like a typical Six Flags. I guess I'm going to have to visit it someday.
fatdaddy Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Awesome pictures, I need to look at mine and see what I have. With my phone camera sometimes I get gold, sometimes I get crap, we shall see. Waiting for your next update.
