I don't wish any ill will on the company that let me go. It's business. But I will never understand why they can hire expensive managers and let go of those who actually do the work. What's left to manage when there aren't any workers left?

I like to say that the higher you go, the less oxygen there is, if you know what I mean...

I don't wish any ill will on the company that let me go either. I had a great, although very short, stay there. They also said they would be a reference for me, to explain the short stay. It just sucks because I declined 2 other job offers to go there, and really fed into the idea that they were looking for someone that would be there for 25 years. They are a small company (I was their 6th employee) and they had just created the position (VP of OEM Sales) because they foresaw a lot of growth in that area.

Then, the President and Vice Presdient (father and son) went to Atlanta for an annual industry conference, and I guess they didn't like what they saw, and when they got back on Friday I guess they just made the decision. I don't know the full extent of what went down in making their decision, but I'm guessing they lost a pretty big client (like a $1.5 million a year kind of client). They kept saying that it was a business decision, and it was nothing personal. For the past 24 hours I've been throwing it back and forth in my head, "Maybe it was me." But, I have finally stopped taking it personally, and I really do think it was a business decision, though, I think it was made on impulse.

It just sucks because I really liked the position, but I can see that it wasn't just my salary, comissions and bonuses, and benefits that did me in. It was the fact that they didn't want to pay for my travel around the country (the position was 50% travel). But it was just weird because they had just set appointments for me to go to NYC, Atlantic City, Orlando and Miami within the next 2 weeks, and notified me of the trips on Tuesday (the day before they left for the conference). Not to mention, I had been calling clients all morning yesterday introducing myself. I remember my last call at 11:34, and then I was called into the office at 11:36. Ouch.

They said that if anything opened up, I would be the first person they would call. I'm pretty sure they were just being nice though. "Believe me, we REALLY like you." - something I heard about 6 times in 3 minutes.

I've just gotten the swift kick in the balls feeling out of my system, and I've been sending resumes out since 8 this morning. And..... it is date night. I'm not sure if I can put on a happy front when I know I'll be shelling out about $75 for dinner, even though Tricia thinks things are going to be fine. I'm just not sure.....

For me it depends. If it was a layoff because of a loss of business is one thing, but if it was because of bad business decisions like hiring your unqualified friends to do major work at a higher rate of pay, pushing out the people that actually do the work then it is another. In this case, it was the latter. They tried to design a new program that was designed completely wrong and the old VP and I tried to warn them. To be honest, if I was being evil I could have just not contacted them again and let them struggle since they originally thought all I was good for was 13 hours a month.... that is a slap in the face, considering all the work I did for them. I did however let them know that my new job took precedence over them and if I needed to come in or meet with them, they would have to schedule it in advance. I hit them with an even higher rate when they felt I should jump when they called and come in right away when I was at my other job, and locked me out of the system when I told them I couldn't come in until the day after.

So, when I found out they locked me out of the system I said fine and proceeded with my with my other job, which was full time with benefits. When they finally called me to ask if I was working on their stuff, I told them off about locking me out of the system and hit them with the new rate... which they ended up paying.

Anyway, when the company went out of business (due to the hurricanes and the bad application that cost way more than the projected amount) I saw the VP that ruined the company eating dinner on Miami Beach a few months later. He saw me and tried to lower his head and duck under the table... I walked over to his table and said "Yeah, you need to have your head down."... and I walked away.

Youtube really is the headquarters for morons.

This video by a few 9 or so year olds showed them and their Rock Band cheat (really just a Live glitch), and they were playing on medium, and one failed a couple of times.

These are exact quotes of some of the comments:

"retarted do u no how do play rock band"

"U GUYS SUCK SERIOUSLY HOW COULD U FAIL THAT MY FRIEND COULD DO BETTER AND HE DOESNT EVEN OWN Guitar hero/ROCKBAND!"

"you sound really gay

homo"

Gaah.

I hate it when some people think walking around on cold days without a coat makes them cool. It was in the 40s today but really windy with some nice 30--40 mph gusts, and bundled up in my winter coat on my way to class this morning, there's this guy in front of me wearing shorts and a thin, white, practically see-through cotton T-shirt. The worst part is that he was strutting--yes, strutting! But his right arm was rigid and pulled in close to his body because he was obviously cold, so it was kind of a gimpy strut.

Fool.

My mom always says people like that are just so cool that they're cold.

My roommate still takes calls (barely) from a mutual drama-filled ex-friend. I stopped talking to him almost two years ago. Anyway, how many people would continue to hang around with someone that treated you bad, burned your kitchen down after falling asleep while heating cooking oil for french fries (not paying one cent for the repairs), then steals your other friends motorbike joyriding and crashes it in the parking lot... and goes to jail for it (still not paying for repairs... not to mention the owner didn't have one dollar's worth of insurance)?

Well my ex-friend does... I can't deal with that much drama. My ex friend goes into how this guy got married and has a kid on the way... and he's fooled around with several of my friends. Well my roommate says "Wait... you're still talking to that fool? I gotta go." And hangs up on him.... and pours a glass of wine.

He tells me the story and I say my typical "A mess" comment, grab a beer from the fridge, and change the subject.

Too much.

Here's another YouTube Terms of Use rant...

On February 13th the new for 2009 Pokemon movie aired, Giratina and the Sky Warrior (it is an amazing movie, BTW, and a must-see if you're a Poke'mon fan like I am). I decided I wanted to make a video review of it to put on YouTube, but I included a teaser slide show of still pictures from it. I wanted to give potential viewers an idea of some of the features of the movie without breaking any copyright rules. A few hours ago today, I got this in my Inbox:

Dear Member:

This is to notify you that we have removed or disabled access to the following material as a result of a third-party notification by Shogakukan Production Co. Ltd. claiming that this material is infringing:

Giratina and the Sky Warrior: Photos and Review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8QrUobJMA0

I mean, I could understand that if I had put in video clips from the movie, it would count as infringing the copyright, but just having a slide show of it embedded into a review of the movie...Personally, I can think of at least ten other videos I've seen on YouTube that deserved reporting before that one.

At least I still have the raw video file on my computer for nostalgic purposes...

^ I can feel your pain. Except with me, it was those freaking WMG who removed my video...for ten seconds of a Beach Boys song! And another of my videos were removed after a year it was posted because it had "By The Way" at the beginning.

As for the Giratina movie, I haven't seen it yet, but thankfully I DVR'ed, so I hope to see it sometime this week.

My visit to SFMM the other day brought this to mind: It really annoys me when people put cups into trash cans in such a way that the lid is propped open. Believe me...that's anything but cool. More stupid than anything else, actually.

When I see that, I push the lid open far enough to let the cup drop in and the lid closes all the way.

^ Strange as it sounds, some things just aren't your business. I rarely share what I'm thinking because someone will usually give me their two cents' without my asking.

And that's another rant of mine---people who meddle. Yeah, they might mean well, but all too often their actions make things worse. If you want to help someone, ASK THEM what you can do for them.

I hate painting. I've incinerated the past several weekends painting my condo in order to get it ready for sale. Ugh. It seems like it's never going to get done, especially painting the trim!
