bert425
Last night, FANTASTIC set by Spear of Destiny (the band Kirk Brandon formed after leaving Theater of Hate). They had a couple of minor US hits in the late 80's (videos below), but were much more popular in the UK. first tour in many years, and only a smallish number of stops - but included Austin. not many folks came out to support them, but just a fantastic sounding show - guitars clear as a bell, and his vocals are as great as they ever were. Interestingly, they are touring as a 4 piece, since the Bass player is ill, but they made due with keyboard bass, and it wasn't even noticeable. . course that could be why the guitars were so great sounding. really, really good set, and of course got to hang out with Kirk and chat after the show. sounds like we might be getting a full on Theater of Hate reunion tour sometime in 2019. .so really looking forwards to that. if you're not familiar with Spear of Destiny (or Theater of Hate). . I'd describe them as a nice mix of Post-Punk & Folk music. good stuff, and they put on a fantastic show. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] here's their biggest USA "hit". . but they did NOT play it - which I thought was brilliant: [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] but after the smallish crowd begged for one more song, they broke out the Brilliant "Liberator". .which they hardly ever play live, and haven't been playing on this tour. When it really kicks in around the 2 minute mark, the whole club was just bouncing [youtu_be] [/youtu_be]
ajc47
So far in 2019 I have seen Iced Earth, Nightwish and Sacred Reich here in Cleveland. A good start to the year.
Blind Idiot God
Deicide in Manchester, NH. Got to kick off a bucket list entry. The Absence: KINDA the odd band out on the bill, but they played a lot of their heavy songs. Also absolutely killed it, with tons of energy and crowd engagement. A lot of people clearly didn't know them, but they won over the crowd by the first song. Jungle Rot: Definitely a "see 'em live" band, but they were fun. Dunno what Jimmy did to his leg, but he had a BAD limp. Origin: It's Origin. 'Nuff said. Tore the place apart and had the best set of the night. Deicide: Didn't move too much (aside from the new guitarist), but they were clearly enjoying themselves onstage, and people were losing their minds for them. I liked the setlist, too; plenty of old-school songs, but just enough stuff from the new album and songs from their good modern albums to keep things fresh. cparkes92
Last concert was Kenny Chesney at Van Andel Arena in early April. Very good show with lots of crowd energy! Also very interesting seeing him in an arena as I had seen him before at Ford Field.

Dombot
^ I really wanted to go to DragonCon just for Cruxshadows, but I'll be out of town for that whole weekend. Like, I'm not complaining, because I'll be at WDW, but still. Boo urns. Have a good time, Bert!

Dombot
Can't believe I forgot to post this, but King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard on Monday night was pure insanity. The reason I don't have pictures is because there was no stopping the moshpit from moving all over the place, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. Like, holy crap. The setlist was perfection, too- starting off with two songs from the new LP (Infest The Rat's Nest) was amazing, but then they started playing the first three tracks from Nonagon Infinity. It was here that my voice left me and I never recovered.
cparkes92
Eric Church on 10/4 at Van Andel Arena. Good show! He played for almost three hours and played 32 songs. It was a sellout show and a lot of money had to have been made on alcohol sales (as the vast majority of the crowd went to get more beer at least once during the show). bert425
I'm behind.. still have some updates to make. but Friday went to see Jay Aston (from Gene Loves Jezebel), Theater of Hate, and Chameleons Vox (known better as Chameleons UK in the USA). killer show, with Theater of Hate being the stand out for me. . . they sounded amazing. bert425
so slammed, not sure when I'll get around to a more detailed posting. . but back on 8/22 (before I went out of town for a week to Atlanta), saw B52's with OMD & Berlin. Berlin was incredible, and now that most of the original band is back with Terri, they played all the hits, even "Sex" Terri looks and sounds AMAZING, and the new tracks off the latest album were very good. OMD was an hour of hit after hit (only didn't know 1 song), and both singers still sound incredible. It was like listening to an album in the 80's the B's were the B's. . . lots of deep and older cuts (the tour was 40th anniversary - of all the bands, actually - and rumor is it's the last time the B's will be touring). Kate sounded really good, as did Fred, but Cindy was pretty sharp the whole night on anything solo lead - tho her harmonies with Kate were on point. The overall sound was a bit muddy tho, and kinda robbed them of the "party" atmosphere they often bring. We left after set, before Encore, so missed "Planet Claire" and "Rock Lobster". . but heck, they opened with "Private Idaho" and as noted, lots of deep and classic cuts ("Mesopotamia" !!). . so I was happy. tho we had bought tix just for Berlin, so I was already thrilled with the evening. some pics:
Ed Farmer
I'd love to catch a B-52s show. Hope the rumors are wrong, and this isn't it for them. I went to their website after reading through your post, and there isn't a whole lot left to choose from on this tour. I've always wanted to see them, but never really kept up with them to know their touring schedule.
Coastard69
Haven’t attended many shows this year (got to 10 concerts and a live podcast in 2018). But most recent was Iron Maiden at Hollywood Casino Amphitheater on 8/22/2019. Great show, it was a legacy tour so all the favs were played. Also the production was incredible. anonymouscactus
Never go to concerts, but the wife got me tickets to AJR which is one of the very few pop bands I actually dig. Was supposed to go tonight, but they cancelled last minute due to illness. D'oh.
