To be completely honest I was pretty impressed with the way they structured that parking lot deal. The entire time I was reading it I was caught between thinking it was hilarious and possibly the "six'flagsiest" thing ever and thinking it was a stroke of genius. I'm still not exactly sure how I feel about it. lol

How is the parking lot paving coming along?

Yea, as Bill already said, it's a project handled by a state grant as a training opportunity for new apprentices. It's slated to take about three years.

That said, I disagree with what Bill is implying ( ) and don't find anything really negative about it. In fact, my inner businessman cackles with glee every time I read about it, because it REALLY is an awesome business decision, despite what a few spoiled coaster enthusiasts may say. The parking lot was going to be a VERY expensive project (estimated by park officials in Q&A sessions to be upwards of $10 million) that wouldn't provide any ROI. Along comes an opportunity to complete the project IN FULL at a fraction of the initial estimated cost. Now that money can be used for other capital improvements instead. Six Flags would've been morons to pass up the chance.

Look, Six Flags has certainly made some boneheaded business choices in the past, but not this one. I support and applaud this decision in full.

Agreed. Just like the water tower repaint, Skully's waterfall (because that's important lol) they are slowly but surely fixing things up. Maybe we'll see Nitro's queue and station get cleaned up and the queue railings replaced (and no I don't care about Nitro getting a paint job because I think its a stupid waste of money since you can't see almost any of the ride from inside the park).

So I was thinking about hitting up the park either tomorrow or sometime next week. Is there someplace that has a listing of all the events going on at the park like school trips and concerts and such?

Nope. Always expect school trips and concerts at this time of the year.

Looks like things got a little dicey at the park w/ the weather today. We had some serious sh!t come through Philly earlier, was wondering if it would make it up to the park.

Word on the street is that the power outage disrupted operations park-wide except for at Bizarro where the crew continued dispatching trains at their usual pace.

^ Yeah I saw. Why does the media care so much about this kind of stuff? Same as the other tweet I linked to in the first post about it.

LMAO at this a$$ho!e.

If you think the tweet is asinine then you should really read the first comment...

That's modern journalism in America. Last night in KC, the main story on every major news channel was that a creepy guy was taking photos of girls at Oceans of Fun. No evidence, no names, etc. Just a middle aged, blonde mom on the news telling us about how dangerous the park is.

What blows my mind is its not like it's NJ.com. It's a national broadcast news network. The first female party nominee for president ever was elected yesterday (not making a political statement but regardless of your views that's huge news) and they have nothing better to do than to report that at a theme park in New Jersey it rained, power went out for a little bit, nobody was stuck on anything and some a**hole on Twitter wants a refund.

I'd worry about you if you weren't laughing at that. That reminds me of the people who were stuck in traffic on the causeway leaving Cedar Point last year for an hour and told the news they were running out of supplies like it was f**king Oregon Trail.

So I was at the park earlier, and I guess I'll do a little TR (no pictures, sorry)

For the most part, the park was really empty with the exception of a few school groups.

Got to the park at opening and finally managed to get on Ka. I was blown away - pun intended - by the acceleration of the launch. I didn't really notice the roughness that people seem to complain about, although I was in the front row.

Next, I went and got 4 laps on El Toro all throughout the train. Feel free to call me crazy, but I liked the middle of the train the best. It seemed like the airtime over the main hills going up to the turnaround was more sustained. I then headed past the Joker and decided to skip it for another day - There was a significant wait compared to everything else which was practically a walk on.

I then grabbed the obligatory back row Skull Mountain ride, and then headed over to Nitro. At this point, the clouds were starting to look rather ominous. I managed to grab consecutive rides in the 2nd to last row, and then the rain started when we hit the brake run on the second lap.

I headed over towards B:TR to see if I could snag one last ride, but it was closed, so I decided to call it a day.

I got to my car and checked the weather map, took the screenshot below. I got out just in the nick of time because by the time I got on 195, it was a torrential downpour.

Scorecard

1x Kingda Ka

4x El Toro

1x Skull Mountain Back Row

2x Nitro

1x Rain escape

All in all - it was a pretty decent time considering I was only there for an hour and a half.

So im planning my return trip to SFGAdv next week and im trying to do my best to get in on this whole skull mountain back row thing.. I was thoroughly impressed with skull mountain based off what type of coaster it is. Really enjoyed it. Is this back row all its made out to be???

As the Founder/CEO/Chairman/Overlord of the Cult of Skull Mountain I will say Yes. Absolutely.

If you can try to give yourself a little room between your lap and the restraint. Most times the ops just walk by and pull on them to make sure they are locked, I don't think I've ever been stapled into SM.

But yes the back row going over the first drop is epic, you get a nice yank and depending on how tight the restraint is, you can get serious, almost scary airtime. The rest of the ride is just ridiculous (loud heavy metal, strobe lights, a random glowing pumpkin) but I think its a lot of fun and mostly underrated, in a so-bad-its-great kinda way. I'm glad I've shown so many people the light. Hahahahaha
