larrygator
I've been to the park 8-9 times this year and have not noticed a drop off in Nitro as a ride, only in the excruciatingly slow operations this year. Overall it has a dirty feel, and other huge parks like Hershey and even CP don't feel nearly as dirty. There's little green at SFGAdv, everything is done half assed there. Just curious what you mean by dirty, I rarely see trash around the parks and the bathrooms are always clean (granted I'm usually out of the park by 2PM). Maybe I still remember the really bad years when trash was everywhere and the bathrooms were a health hazard. Even though there is not much green (because they ripped everything out for coasters) the lake area is very nice and quiet. As far as everything being half-assed, I just don't agree. Operations are still excellent on El Toro and a few rides. The Adventure Alley rebirth is well done as was the new Safari Off-Road Adventure. The parachute drop has been brought back to life, as were the Cable Cars a few years ago. Plaza des Carnival still looks nice as does the Kingda Ka area. Although both areas could use another themed attraction. I'll give you that some things are half-assed. Wiggles World re-theme, the whole closed off area where Chiller/Freefall, Enterprise, Music Express and Bumper Cars used to be, the decline of working theming in Dark Knight, operations on certain coasters. But I wouldn't say everything. Edited August 5, 2013 by larrygator
Aceattack52
^ I had my best ride ever on Nitro last night... Great speed with no trims, loads of airtime, and perfectly smooth. Much different from earlier this season (especially this spring). Why do they decide to run with or without the trims sometimes? I've noticed the same thing on Intimidator at Carowinds. willh51
To each their own but GA is a nice looking place. There's some areas that are works in progress, like Chillerland, but it's definitely not a rundown or dumpy looking park. That area by the mine train and El Toro on the lake is beautiful. Dr. M
Certain areas don't look as bad. I guess it's whatever side of the park leaves a bigger impression on you, the grungy empty shell side, or the greener friendlier side. I will say I've never walked through an amusement park and thought "Gee this corner of it sure is a wasteland, but that's alright, it must be a work in progress." willh51
^Hopefully they'll just spruce up that area with an awesome roller coaster.
Dr. M
^Another barely themed coaster on a concrete slab would fit in great! Especially after it's there a couple years and what little theming there is disappears or falls into ruin.
arby
We enjoyed our trip here last spring break. My wife is not a coaster enthusiast (although she likes theme parks) and it's the only Six Flags park we've been to that she 'wouldn't mind going back to' so that says a lot about a park to me. The only issue for us was that some of the rides aren't ADA compliant so we had a hard time getting my son on them. (I recall him having to walk up the exit steps to Runaway Mine Train and not being able to just push him in his wheelchair - it takes him about 5-10 minutes to walk up those steps.) Even though he wanted to do it another time or two during our two day visit, we only let him once because it was such a challenge.
golfburner1
I sat on Nitro a couple of days ago for an hour and ten minutes without getting off. It was incredible
larrygator
I sat on Nitro a couple of days ago for an hour and ten minutes Were you stacked up on the brake run the whole time? Edited August 6, 2013 by larrygator
golfburner1
Hahahaha no... operations were OK till the Asian tour groups were waiting. They couldn't understand the fact that you are not allowed to have your phone on the ride, and that you cannot be in the station while they dispatch the ride. TyRush
Is that photo even from this year? I thought they put the 2 seats back in the last row and removed the ''box''

sfkk
I am going to Great Adventure tomorow and want to do as much as possible. Do you reccoment I do Safari Off Road Adventure before or after Kingda Ka and El Toro right when the park opens?
CPmillenia94
El Toro is a bit lame in the morning compared to later in the day from experience.. Kinda ka I would hit first thing. The line will get huge by mid day while El Toro hasn't ever had a wait more than 30 mins any time I've been there.
necoastergp
^^The safari had the longest wait when I was there last month but I had the gold flash pass. Just remember the safari will take about an hour or more depending on camp adventura plus the wait to get on so you'll need to plan around it. Without a flash pass definitely do KK first as the line can be slow moving especially if they are only loading in one quarter of the station. El toro's line definitely moves a lot faster. Wait, why would they do that? The on board audio was one of the coolest parts of the ride! The Bizarro in New England still has it's audio system, but it's audio changed from sound clips from old movies to a collection of music much like X2 At Magic Mountain. I guess the reason for removing it would be because of high Maintenance costs and the ride not being popular enough. I don't really know all that goes on at the park since the last time i went to Great Adventure was in 2010.
willh51
The audio on the Great Adventure Bizarro always had a ton of problems. Usually only one train had it working and it often cut out or stopped mid-ride.
MrJohnny
Hello! First post on TPR! I'm currently planning a trip down to SFGA on Sept. 8th. How was wondering how crowded should it be at that date? Would a gold Flash pass be a must? Thank you!
alwaysairtime14
^ Don't know about NJ, but that's the final week before New York schools re-open. There'll be lot's and lot's of kids/teens, the latter will be unsupervised and could be a problem with line cutting. I'd get a Flash Pass (if I had any money lol). coasternut
Here is a sad report from another source - an ACE event. The lift motor for El Toro has blown! They are going to try to rebuild it, but if unsuccessful the ride is done for the season. If they're able to rebuild it may only be a few weeks that it's down. I know they'll (6 Flags) do their best. I just wanted to share this bit of bad news this morning.

Ah, i was hoping it would actually be the first week of school for them! Looks like i'll get a flashpass then. Considering that it will most likely be the only time that i get to go there..it should be worth it.
