boldikus Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I can't speak for this year - but ^ that is what happened to me last year - they took my voucher at the gate, gave me my SP "card" right then and there BUT I still had to go to processing to make sure all my benefits were added. At least thats what I remember being told. I waited til the end of the day and only waited in line to do that for 10 minutes.
boldikus Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Sorry for the doublepost - not sure why (think there is some sort of concert. also, spring break) but I keep seeing online that the park is PACKED today. These were posted on Facebook this morning and afternoon. Apparently SFGAdv does not need to open their new ride to pack them in.
Brassinthegrass Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Rough winter, beautiful weather, kids off from school for the week = not surprising other pack today! Glad I don't plan on going anytime soon!
Genx24 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Holy $#!+. I considered taking a solo trip down to get a few extra spins on Nitro, but I'm so glad I didn't.
boldikus Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Looks INSANE. Hearing reports of 2+ hour waits for the headliners. Saw a post on FB telling people to "STAY AWAY" lol. On a Monday. In April. WTF. I went to the park 10 different times in 2014, all on totally different days of the week throughout the spring/summer and fall. We had a few crowded days but NOTHING like that. I can't imagine its all just for that concert/spring break.
Genx24 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 According to someone on Great Adventure History who is visiting the park today, it's taking cars over an hour to get from the property entrance on RTE 537 to the parking lot. It's also taking another hour just to get in the park. Pair that with the 2 hour plus waits on the rides, and you've wasted half your day before you even ride anything. That's insanity.
Brassinthegrass Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Do I see a lighting package? Did Six Flags actually spend money on the lighting package?!? Anyone else for that draft from hell, because I think it just froze over!
boldikus Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 These things are supposed to be 70 feet right? Why does it seem like its going to be half that? (from Six Flags Great Adventure Connoisseurs FB group)
YoshiFan Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Looks INSANE. Hearing reports of 2+ hour waits for the headliners. Saw a post on FB telling people to "STAY AWAY" lol. On a Monday. In April. WTF. I can't imagine its all just for that concert/spring break. It's likely because of the group that used to buyout the park on Easter no longer does that and now their event is at the park today. I made the mistake of going on the day they were there a few years ago. It was so crowded I had a 20 minute wait for Nitro with an exit pass (from Funatics Rewards).
Brassinthegrass Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 That looks like it'll be around 70ft.... I think you've been looking at Fury pics a bit too much.
boldikus Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 ^ LOL - Its hard to tell in pictures. Based on the size of the people in that picture, it looks like a regular old ring of fire ride (these Super Loops ARE bigger, no?). I think what's throwing me off is the parks way-unrealistic rendering that makes it look as large as Toro's first drop.
coasterdude28 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 ^Actual size looks about 1/4 the size of the rendering. I've never ridden one of these superloops but it looks like it will be a pretty similar ride experience to the space shuttle ride we used to have here...which was fairly awful. Hopefully I'm wrong.
larrygator Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) I can't imagine its all just for that concert/spring break. If there are other variables causing the crowds, I'd like to know what they could be. Weather is pleasant but not great. I was debating a drive down there tomorrow but now I'm concerned. willh51 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Any change in KK/Zumanjaro dispatches for 2015? Are they running together? What ride did Great Adventure valley?
larrygator Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 What ride did Great Adventure valley? Nitro Anyway enough about that, the standout thing from today was the Clusterf**k that happened at Nitro. After one of our many rides on Batman we noticed Nitro was opened so we headed over and after a 15 minute wait we managed to get on the train. They had tested with water dummies for awhile and I guess they finally felt confident enough to open it and the full trains seemed to be moving through the course just fine despite the insane winds. When we got on the train they loaded us, gave the all clear and then the train wouldn't move. They told everyone to get off the train and step back into line and maintenance came over, did some work on the panel and about 10 minutes later they were ready to go. So then they dispatched the train... the empty train. As soon as they did that my girlfriend looked at me and just said something along the lines of "Oh no, they didn't really just do that did they?". I thought it seemed like a bad idea but of course figured that the Six Flags maintenance guys knew what they were doing a lot more than a couple of dumb enthusiasts so we boarded the train and sort of forgot about it. All of a sudden one of the ride ops looks to the back of the station in a panic and yelled for the attention of the other ride ops. We turned around knowing exactly what the problem probably was and saw the train start to go up the hill before the swooping turn into the helix and crest the hill at what seemed like 1mph (I think everyone in the station was shocked that it made it... I'm not exaggerating, nobody thought that train was going to make it over), then it went into the helix and crawled up to the mid course where it apparently stopped. My guess is that it stopped at least partially in the mid course which is a miracle in itself because it didn't roll backwards but it didn't make it back to the station. Obviously after watching that they told us they were closing the ride for the day and they let us off the ride. It's too bad we didn't get to ride but it was definitely an interesting thing to watch. I still can't believe they actually sent that train empty. They got really lucky. By the end of the night all 3 trains were back in the station area.
Genx24 Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 El Toro also valleyed. There's a photo of it a few pages back. As for the rest of the week, I wouldn't expect the park to be as crowded as it is today. Jackson's forecast calls for rain Tuesday-Thursday, with highs only hitting the low 40s on Wednesday and Thursday. Should scare people away.
boldikus Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Nice. Should be finished in a couple hours. Boom! via All-American Thrills FB
3Mutts Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Thanks for the advice everyone. And they litterally put it together today.
coasterbill Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Oh my god I'm dying over here. They actually built it in a few hours.
GCI Wooden Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Oh my god I'm dying over here. They actually built it in a few hours. I found this to be incredibly amusing, as well.
