YoshiFan
It's usually 9 or 10. I want to say last year it was until 9 but I'm not 100% sure on that since I missed it last year.
boldikus
Awesome, thanks! If I can get up by 6 and get 3 hours of no lines it seems totally worth it to make the trip. If its open even later all the better. Do any parks ever do an overnight thing where the coasters stay on all night?
YoshiFan
Great Adventure is trying that out this year. Unfortunately it's only open to schools. It would be cool to see Great Adventure try that even as an upcharge and have it open to everyone.
larrygator
Yeah, I noticed several people with phones out while I was working. Most of them were just trying to hold onto their precious iPhones it seemed rather than for filming, but I told everyone I caught to put them away. haha Someone on one of the trains addressed me about someone getting hit with a phone the year prior. I'm not sure if that was you or not. Also, we were having issues with lapbars not unlocking Saturday. We only had one train for most of sunday because of that. I don't think you spoke with me. I didn't talk to anyone with a nametag Ryan and luckily I've never been hit by a phone, but I have been hit been coins in the past. The two people I reported were both actively taking pictures and or filming. They were even talking about it as the train came back into the station and viewing the photos/videos from the exit ramp to the photo booth. I don't understand people with trying to film videos anymore. haha I understand with a new ride but not a ride where there's already a million videos of it on youtube, some of which that are very well done. No point in trying to film a cheesy phone pov.
larrygator
They don't want a video or photo from the ride, they want a free photo or video of themselves on the ride. Edited April 15, 2014 by larrygator
coasterbill
It sounds like the park decided to close at noon today because of the weather. I can't say I blame them... the place must have been empty.

No point in trying to film a cheesy phone pov. I think its a symptom of peoples general tendency to be narcissistic combined with smartphones/social media and that attached desire to share any/everything you do with everyone you know. That and that its cheaper to take a shitty pic/video of yourself than pay for the parks' professional on-ride photograph.
yankeeman311
Personally I think the answer is that GP don't realize the good povs are done by professionals with mounted cameras.
Generational
I would love to pull some strings and make it down to SFGA this season. Being from upper New England doesn't help anything, but I would love to get to ride KK and ET again, and try ZDOD. It might be a pipe dream, but I am going to see what I can do. DevilsFlight
I'm at the park now and no coasters were working until about an hour ago because of the ice. El Toro Green Lantern and Superman are still closed
CPSFMMCW
Ok guys. At the park, a truck with RMC's logo on it was spotted. A bunch of guys wearing RMC jackets were walking around in the rolling thunder area. Sounds like six flags is looking to put in a hybrid or an inverting woodie here! which I find interesting. Another woodie is a necessary fit for the park, but I thought they would go a more traditional woodie and not a high intensity wooden coaster. But in a way, from the beginning I was expecting an RMC at the park. But I was sure that it would go in the old batman and robin the chiller station. But who knows, maybe it will be. I just thought it was weird that Six Flags would put another woodie in plaza del carnival. I was so sure that if anything, they would use the rolling thunder space to expand. Not use it for a woodie. But there is plenty of space for a wooden coaster there. Attached below is a google earth photo showing the size of rolling thunder. Thoughts? rcjp
^Interesting that you say there were walking around with RMC jackets. I thought that they would try to "hide" this, maybe.
coasterbill
The lift hills are not still up, the only thing still up is a tiny section of the pullout of the first drop. Also, the path to Zumanjaro is going to follow the coaster's old path from the final brake run by Tiger's Leap market all the way to where the coaster track crossed over itself. Then where the pull out of the drop was crossed over by the return run of the ride the path will follow the initial run out from the bottom of the drop all the way to the first turnaround which takes guests right over to Kingda Ka's tower. Basically if you look at that image the path follows the portion of track closest to Kingda Ka... most likely so the park could avoid removing trees as the town always gives them a hard time about that. Most of this area will be taken up by the new path. I don't see why they'd put a coaster there when they could put one where Chiller was.
CPSFMMCW
yeah, seems weird that they were in that area. The chiller would be the best place for one. I also find it a bit strange that they're there that early in the season. If RMC guys were gonna walk around, then I would've expected them to go around later in the season. But in a way it makes sense, since I bet it takes a lot of time to plan this kinda thing.
rcjp
^Isn't it like 3 years or something? (the average time it takes since planning until opening of a ride)
coasterbill
Before we get ahead of ourselves... is there a source for this at all? Who saw them? I'm really not buying this. lol

yankeeman311
We also have to think about the possibility of them being there for El Toro purposes since they helped build the ride.
rcjp
^I totally forgot they had been involved in its construction.
larrygator
Just because RMC is on site doesn't guarantee an RMC in the future. They could be helping with El Toro or they could be surveying the land as part of an upcoming bid process. Sure an RMC would be nice but let's see what plays out. Lastly, if the build on the old Rolling Thunder plot, they can expand into the baboon area a little. There is more room now that the cars don't drive through that area. CPSFMMCW
you could be right. I'm just stating the facts. And the facts are that they were there. It could be for El Toro purposes, or maybe it is for a new coaster. Who knows.
coasterguy1
I think I saw a rumor with someone in the park with a RMC jacket last year. Anyway, if they were gonna build over there it wouldn't surprise me. There is at least 25 acres of property where the safari used to go but doesn't now. It wouldn't surprise me to see the park expand overthere. Also, I think that the park would be better suited with a GCII over an RMC, but either would be great
CPSFMMCW
^ I agree with you on the GCI for this park. I can't even remember the last GCI Six Flags installed...boy its been a while.

I can't see why SFGAdv would want a GCI when they have El Toro. If they were to get a new woodie next year, I'd prefer an RMC.
