YoshiFan
So the rides included in there are sitting idle as well? What for? Most have been moved. The elephant ride moved to Adventure Alley. The ladybugs and kiddie scrambler moved to Safari Kids. The train is supposed to be rebuilt in Looney Tunes Seaport. The kiddie swings probably weren't reinstalled because there is another kiddie swing ride in the Seaport and the only other thing there was the play structures. Dr. M
They actually have had this sign out at the entrance to the park before the ticket booths since late May or early June last year: I didn't notice that sign when I went, that's good that they did that. netdvn
My point was seeing the animals roaming freely around your car was, for me, a more immersive experience than going to the zoo and seeing them all behind glass. Technically you're still seeing the animals behind glass in your car. The off road vehicles look like they're more open and they stray from the main pathways so you're allowed to get closer to the animals now than you were before. I'd like to see the park build a ride similar to KD/KI's monorail. It should provide a break from the lines for Off Road at least - and have higher capacity. Have it stop inside the Discovery camp and loop around the safari around the old driving route.
Ccron10
It really wouldn't surprise me if they close the gate at the Golden Kingdom entrance in the Boardwalk and keep that section of the park closed until Ka and Zoomanjaro opens and not even bother with the old path that ran over to El Toro. From looking at the map, I really can't see if that path is shown as there are just so many buildings in that area. I guess is could be possible since it looks like the baboons are tucked a little farther back from the midway. Wasn't the reason why they closed it in the first place because of Rolling Thunder or is that just a myth? Lastly, I wonder if that building near Zoomanjaro's entrance is going to exist and if so, could it be something besides lockers? EDIT: Same here Dan. I haven't even ventured on to SORA last year as I didn't feel like waiting in line for it in the rain for one of the days I was there and didn't feel like waiting in the hot sun. With Ka being closed, I'll see about venturing over and put in the time for it in a few weeks.
CoasterPrince
I think the path in between Golden Kingdom and Plaza Del Carnaval will open this season for many reasons. Anyone remember when the Tigers were inside Temple of the Tiger (Safari Discovers) and guests would gather along the defunct path in front of the glass? I think this is where the baboon viewing area will be similar to the chimpanzee exhibit at BGA. The park has a lot of baboons and I doubt they would add two or three to the park as an attraction. I'm not sure how much space these animals need but it would be a lot more entertaining if the entire inside part of Safari Discoveries was transformed into a play area for the baboons. This would make Seafari Theater it's own attraction using the Temple of the Tiger stadium. Also, there are rumors that Balins Jungleland will return this season which is along the path and across from the old tiger viewing area. Although the rides aren't there anymore besides the kiddie swings , the play structure, which is better than nothing is.

I guess is could be possible since it looks like the baboons are tucked a little farther back from the midway. Comparing the new map with the one from last year (using the mobile app which still hasn't been updated), it seriously doesn't look to me like anything has changed regarding the path between the two Golden Kingdoms. But it's so hard to tell from looking at the map. One thing is for sure, the map is just extremely poor all around. Usually park maps will exaggerate the size of major pathways for ease of navigation, and you'd think the shortest route between their two biggest roller coasters would constitute a major pathway. Just looking at the new map, with no preconceptions, the area around the baboon exhibit clearly looks like a dead end, there is no path visible there at all, so I suspect it will be a dead end until the park opens and I'm (happily) proven wrong. Do you see a path? I don't see a path, I see two dead ends separated by an amphitheater. Why would they draw it that way if there was a path? See how it used to look? Clearly there is a nice big path there. That's how it would look if they fixed the problem. Seems obvious to me they haven't. Surprise! Not. CoasterPrince
Late approval, Waiting on construction pieces, Indecisive management *cough* Six Flags *cough* There's a number of reasons something doesn't show up on the map but happens to be in the park. Furthermore, it is a path not a ride or shop. If they wanted to open it half way through the season just for the hell of it they could because they run the park, we don't. Dr. M
^Fair enough, I certainly can't say that's impossible. My main point is don't get your hopes up. They've had the entire off-season to fix this, and if it hasn't been fixed by now, I'd say they probably have no intention of fixing it this year. I don't believe changing the layout of the park is something that typically happens during the season, I mean it's not like it's a matter of moving a couple fences. Can anyone name a time when that happened? I would assume the decisions regarding the changes to that area have already been made, and the map would reflect those decisions. But again, I hope I'm wrong. This is Six Flags we're talking about. It certainly doesn't seem possible that they could leave it the way it is with the addition of Zumanjaro. I can't see that bizarre bottleneck next to the top spin servicing not one, but two major attractions.
B&MIntaminGCI
Why was that path ever closed? The last time I was at GADV was 2007, so I'm not up to date on everything, but it just seems like a really weird move to close that path?

Now they have less rides (if you count play structures), animal areas and booths to staff.

Dr. M
Seriously. I can see getting rid of attractions to save money, but closing the entire path because what, you're too lazy to actually remove the stuff and not make the area look like a desolate wasteland? It's just one of those weird, stupid things you'd only ever see at a Six Flags park. The only other thing I can think of is maybe they're using the area for storage or other behind-the-scenes stuff. Koasterking48
On a somewhat related note, is The Chiller station still abandoned? And do they use it for haunted houses or anything?
woolandmammoth
On a somewhat related note, is The Chiller station still abandoned? And do they use it for haunted houses or anything? The Chiller's station is used as a back stage area on the inside. The line and empty area behind it are used during fright fest for the Asylum trail. Besides fright fest, that whole area is fenced off. They used "The Observatory" for 'The Exploratorium' a few years ago. When that was pulled out they used the building for the Zambora Fright Fest show. The past few years however The Observatory building has been vacant. The Chiller buildings have kind of been in limbo in an area also stuck in limbo. The Chiller station is a very spacious building so it's fate will be interesting. DerekRx
Remember a couple of years ago when they had the bridge between El Toro and Medusa (now Bizarro) closed off? It's definitely a pain if they don't have the pathway between El Toro and Ka opened, but by making guests walk all the way over to Boardwalk to get between the two rides means walking right past all the games, food stands, and upcharges. We see it as a pain, they see it as a way to make $$$.
coasterfreak101
Another note, it looks like on that map they make no indication that the area between Boardwalk and Plaza del Carnival is actually Golden Kingdom. Though I'm sure they'll still have the big sign saying 'GOLDEN KINGDOM' before you hit that little stretch, they don't seem like they're going to acknowledge it's part of the same area next door that you can't actually get to. According to the legend, they still have the venues in that area listed under Golden Kingdom. While the paths in that area aren't shaded to distinguish the difference between Plaza del Carnival, neither is Movietown or Adventure Alley.
