P. 778: Pantherian project update!

Recommended Posts

Forget about a petition to retrack Hurler, let's get one started to tear that darn butt ugly, painful piece of firewood down to make way for something better.

It's not that bad, if you ride it in the morning, or after it rains, it's still a good ride. I agree neither Grizzly or Hurler has aged well, but they aren't going to get rid of either of them.

When I went last year, I finally got to ride it, it was way worse that the one at Carowinds. I think for me it might be the trains, Carowinds seats were more padded and felt softer. Also Rebel Yell was, for me, worse than T-Road... again the same thing with the train.

Depends greatly on which side or RY that you ride....for me the left side,or "lake charles side" as I've dubbed it was HORRID in 08 with major jackhammering on the drops just before the turnaround.Perhaps springloaded upstops would solve that problem? not just on RY but on all of the park's woodies with the exception of ghoster coaster.

What's with the lack of love for the Grizz? Sure the ride kinda beats you up but in a good way when compared to Hurler & I happen to love the pacing of the ride with the brief breaks in the action & last but not least you just can't beat that headchopper tunnel coming off of the bunnyhill following the drop off of that first slow curve....no matter how many times I ride it I always find myself ducking through that section of the course.

A guy could get castrated, that's how bad Griz is. Hurler, the turns are really the only bad part, the airtime is still safe, unlike RY. And the Lake Charles side has had some re-tracking done, so, it's not that bad (they started re-tracking I believe in the summer). And according to my area manager, all the re-tracking for that side is supposed to be done before the park re-opens for the 09 season. And the other side is being re-tracked right now during the off months. So, Im hoping my manager was right..... but yeah, at least RY is getting *some* TLC. IMO Hurler just needs the turns to be worked on, and Griz needs some track-work done.

Hurler still has the best airtime in the park. That second hill is still awesome and worth the roughness, imho. Two great spots of ejector air...

Grizzly is still my favorite ride at the park, though. Well, maybe tied with Dominator now, maybe. I don't find it that rough at all. Front seat is smooth, back seat is rough, but the vicious air time makes it worth a ride or two, especially when there's no wait so you can do re-rides.

Hurler and Rebel Yell are both FAAAR worse then their fellow rides at Carowinds. Rebel yell especially now that its all forwards is imho way worse then Thunder Road and Racer. Just a nasty jack hammering ride, no fun at all.

Front seat on grizzly airtime: The hill before the tunnel, the hill inside the tunnel, and a couple of the final hills give a little bit of airtime.

Back seat: The first drop gives good ejector air, and the two hills going into the tunnel and the tunnel hill give good airtime.

I've NEVER enjoyed Rebel Yell forwards, now that both sides are forwards I find them to both be terribly rough and awful.

Grizzly used to be my favorite ride at KD (when I was too short for Volcano, Hyper Sonic (RIP), and all of the other big coasters back in 2004) I like Hurler because its so rough and throws you all over the place. That first turn after the drop is the best for me! I loved Rebel Yell when it went backwards but now its just fun.

The hurler still gives some decent air time on the bunny hops. If there was a way to fix up the roughness it wouldn't be such a terrible ride.

The roughest part of the grizzly is when it shoots through the tunnel and into the turn around right after the tunnel, other than that its not that bad.

The rebel yell just doesn't do much anymore, it's kind of disappointing it doesn't go backwards anymore.

All the wooden coasters in the park could be great, if they got the proper attention.

Believe me, they will be getting taken care of alot more since Paramount is out of the picture.

I dunno, historically Cedar Fair hasn't exactly been known for their wooden coaster maintenance...

They have been giving the wooden coasters at Carowinds repairs.

Thats true. I guess time will tell, but I'm mostly thinking how many of their woodies at their parks are considered rough and use trim brakes.

And they're also doing some major work on the first turnaround on the Grizzly at CGA.

Honestly I think they do an excellent job of maintaining Grizzly. My last rides in October were fantastic. Very Fast and as smooth as an aggressive coaster can be.

Which puzzle's me to no end is why the brutal hairpins on Hurler have NEVER been fully retracked since the ride's opening (usually they replace the top layer and that is it).

Rebel Yell got some work this past winter/spring which made the ride better but the Valley before the turnaround is still brutal on both sides.

Any chance of an Intamin woodie in a CF park?

From what I've heard (if I remember correctly), America is lucky to have gotten El Toro. I think I heard that was a bit of a fluke purchase...?

Thanks to Scott's Coastermania TR, I know Kinzel & co. specifically said that CP wouldn't be getting an Intamin pre-fab; I dunno if that carries over to the other parks or not though.
