How original. I love the part with the intelligent and mature response to my post.

Honestly no, I don't usually expect maturity from anyone on THIS forum.

But you could at least try instead of acting 12.

We're not debating anything where well thought out arguments would apply. We're comparing completely arbitrary opinions on which coasters we like better. It's not in any way necessary for me to justify my opinion (which for the record, is that your opinion is crap).

Lol k. I'm sure just a normal B&M invert it *totally* better than an invert with 2 amazing launches, a giant inversion out of a volcano, and amazing view with heartline rolls over 100 feet up... You can just keep saying that afterburn is better and deny the obvious I guess.

Posted

^ He doesn't have to keep saying it.

Because now I will - AFTERBURN IS BETTER THAN VOLCANO. Fact.

Volcano is a very fun ride, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. That said, after the launches and coming through the volcano, it just does the same repetitive thing over and over - circle the volcano, random roll, repeat.

Afterburn, on the other hand, has incredible pacing and is an old-school B&M that delivers a variety of elements and inversions that pack a punch. To compare those 2 coasters in general is silly, but to say Volcano is better?

Posted

Volcano is outstanding, but Afterburn is one of the best old school B&M inverts in America, topped only by Montu and Raptor for me. So to each his own but I'd take Afterburn by a wide margin despite the fact that I love Volcano.

Posted

^ Exactly.

What made me laugh is how he presents his homer opinion as a foregone conclusion and fact. Which was why I decided to do the same so he'd understand it. Although, I'm apparently just "denying the obvious" too, I guess.

But yeah, Volcano on its own is still a very awesome coaster, and certainly gets points for being unique.

Posted

I gotta agree with the other guy, as much as I liked the B&M, Volcano was much better. If for nothing else, the uniqueness factor.

Posted

I will agree that Afterburn is better than Volcano! I would take Afterburn over almost any invert other then Montu or Banshee.

Posted

Honestly, Volcano is definitely a fun ride with great launches, but after the first inversion I find myself bored with a repetitive, short layout with unrealized potential. Afterburn, while certainly not innovative or unique in concept, delivers an amazingly smooth, forceful ride with a great variety of inversions that come at an incredible pace. It's not really a contest for me; I don't base my coaster rankings on how unique a ride is, otherwise something like Ultra Twister (the Togo heartline coaster at Nagashima) would be #1, and that's just silly.

Lol this is just too funny. I'm gonna have to stop looking at this thread for a while or I'm gonna get cancer.

Wait what? Lol you asked for some justification and you got it. I think it's 100% fair for people to be of the opinion that Afterburn is better than Volcano (I haven't been to Carowinds but I definitely prefer Raptor to Volcano). Now that people explain why they disagree you can't handle a valid opinion or you'll get cancer? Okay sure go find another "more mature" forum

It's not the people who are giving good answers it's the cwnds fanboys here...

Edit: some guy posted a really stupid answer but must have deleted it because I can't find it. That's mostly what I was referring to.

Posted

^ I don't see any fanboys, in fact I'm probably the only caro fanboy responding to that ludicrous statement. Volcano is a great launch AND inverted coaster, but it sure as hell ain't Afterburn. Afterburn, is just so much better.

Just because someone doesn't agree with your 'opinion' doesn't mean they're cancer or a fanboy.

You jumped down my throat initially but if you'd scroll back a few pages you'd see this... (A response to your post)

By who? I prefer Fury to anything at Kings Dominion but that's very debatable and honestly once you get beyond that Kings Dominion blows Carowinds away. Afterburn is the only other thing Carowinds has going for it against KD.

And this...

They must be comparing coasters and ignoring everything else entirely. Kings Dominion is a beautiful park, especially over by the flume and on the main midway. The non coaster offerings are dramatically better than what Carowinds has and their new flat ride package won't change that. As a park, there's no competition between the two (and I love Carowinds). Kings Dominion blows it out of the water.

Carowinds is a soul-less corporate park with no personality to speak of. Great coasters, but no personality. None.

It's not fanboys, it's people who are being objective.

And the referee throws a flag: "Overuse of emoiticons. Fifteen-yard penalty and loss of down."

"Oh, Lurch! They're bickering in the Kings Dominion thread, again."

OK, some of you prefer KD, some of you prefer Carowinds. I think we all get it.

Now everyone just get over it.

End of moderator rant.

I would like to add that I just visited Carowinds for the first time this past weekend. I would consider myself a KD fanboy, but Afterburn is a better all around coaster than V:TBC. I just loved the batwing. Fury 325 is better than I305. Carowinds deserves all the attention they are getting from CF. I can't wait to see what else they have in store for Carowinds.

Yeah but did they deserve $80M dollars for future expansions...?

Parks invest money wherever they feel they would get the greatest return on their investment. Enthusiasts like to act as if parks make investments based on how long it's been since they've gotten a new coaster or based on it being "their turn" like it's some kind of gift the parks give to enthusiasts for being patient.

That's not how the world works. Kings Dominion got a great addition this year.

Yes, and I think it's even more clear now that it's happening. And it's not about "deserve," it's about business.

But the only major area around Carowinds is Charlotte. That area doesn't exactly have a big audience to appeal to.
