Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom Discussion Thread

p. 201 - Iron Menace announced for 2024!

Recommended Posts

I went to the park for a couple of hours last night and the rides and Haunt attractions all had short lines. Talon, Hydra and Steel Force all were running 1 train and Steel Force had about a 10 minute wait. I saw a lot of people go up to Blackout thinking it was open to everyone and they were turned away since it is Fright Lane only.

Sorry to double post, but the crew there did not allow re-rides even though no one was in line. That kinda sucked, but oh well.

Unfortunately, it has been like that for as long as I can remember. It would be nice to see it changed and re-rides allowed but I don't mind it too much since I know I'm not going to be waiting in much of a line for anything when I go to the park.

I imagine they don't like to allow re-rides to force people to go through the ride counters again. Since it is not a busy park, having a more accurate count of what people are riding helps them decide which rides people enjoy more.

This is usually the reason. The majority of coasters in the US that allow re-rides if the station is empty typically don't have ride counters.

Indeed, I do remember ride counters, so it does make sense. So basically, no counters means a good possibility of a re-ride when given the chance.

This is a random question but does anyone know if they keep Thunder Creek Mountain open all year? We actually think it's one of the best rides in the park so we're curious to know as we may be heading back there this year.

They used to keep it open until at least late September now I think the water rides close when Haunt starts. On Saturday, the trough was drained.

They aren't getting anything notable next year. This park is really neglected by Cedar Fair, most of their parks have gotten new things the past few seasons. Dorney Park got Stinger which operated a few hours this season.

I don't understand their logic in spending so much to put in Snake Pit - it's such a low capacity ride. I guess for the few seconds it lasts it can be fun, but I would have rather seen that $8million go towards a new coaster than the water park. MAYBE we can hope for an announcement in 2015 for something great in 2016. Seems so far away...

In this weeks unexpected twist, I may be heading to Dorney this Saturday evening. You have no idea how many times in my life I have *almost* gone to this park. But alas, this will be the first time. Now, let's see if these plans shake out.

They seem to have a pretty decent flat line-up between the Screaming Swing and Dominator and then Demon Drop, Enterprise, and Meteor are all rides I loved but haven't ridden in forever.

I'd like to do all the coasters since there aren't really that many. Definitely want to check out Possessed as I haven't done one of those. I like B&Ms for the most part so Talon and Hydra are must-dos, Steel Force as its legendary around these parts, though I hear its pretty forceless. What's the consensus on Thunderhawk? Seems like a don't-miss simply for how old it is but then again... lol

Thunderhawk would be the best coaster in the park if they'd re-track it and take the trims off. It has the potential to be a relentless airtime machine. As it stands right now it's not that great. If you want airtime sit in the first car, second row but the airtime hurts like a b***h as the coaster needs some serious TLC. I want to love this coaster but they don't take care of it and it's a shame. I enjoy all of the other coasters in the park. This ride isn't THAT rough but it could be so much better.

The flats you mentioned are the best in the park and are all worth a ride. I love the SeaDragon too... it's lightyears ahead of the crappy swinging ships most parks have as you get some great floater air if you get in the last row of either side. This is true of most SeaDragon ships. It's a shame Thunder Creek Mountain is closed for the year as it's one of the most unique rides in the park due to it's great use of terrain.

If I were you I'd wait for the front of Steel Force. It won't blow you away but it makes the ride so much better because you can appreciate the speed which makes it pretty enjoyable. In the other seats it's nothing special.

Most importantly though (I hope you're taking notes) they have a Chickie and Pete's walk up window over near the SeaDragon so get yourself some crab fries. You're welcome...

Oh snap they have a Whip. Is it any good?

Yes.

I ranked it as #2 behind Knoebel's Whipper on our trip thru Penn.

Knoebel's

Dorney

Kennywood

HersheyPark

they have a Monster too (right next to Posessed). Don't miss that. .it was the only Monster ride we came across.

as for Chickie & Pete, there is a Sit Down Sportsbar version near Hydra. It was inside, air conditioned, and had a much bigger menu than the walk up window.

(tho the chicken Cheesteak I had did give me the craps, my partner enjoyed his meal, and the fries were gooood)

After riding Nitro and S:ROS don't expect much from Steel Forceless. You'll only be disappointed.
