Worst Arrow coaster

Recommended Posts

GASM at SFGAd was one of two coasters ever that made me bleed, so that one is probably at the top! Orient Express is probably pretty close!

Funny, because I had a good time on GASM. I boarded expecting it to be awful, and it was such a torture machine that there was really nothing left to do but brace myself and laugh a lot through gritted teeth. 'Course, I didn't lose any hemoglobin...

It's scary how many Arrows I've been on. There are waaaay too many out there. My least favorite would have to be Pepsi Max Big One. How the Brits love that ride, I have no idea.

Probably because it has great character, making you feel you've ridden a real rollercoaster ride. Compare that to most Intamin and Boring & Monotonous coasters.

PMBO, Magnum and Desperado are all superb. The biggest Arrow looper I've ridden is SFMM's Viper, which was fantastic both front and back. It made me feel like I was riding a coaster, as opposed to a coaster simulator which is actually a coaster! (enter B&M.. that's not to say they're rubbish as they're actually superb, and execute perfectly what they're intended to, which is an aerobatic flight sensation.. as coasters however most of them are no more exciting than a kiddie coaster, to me.. when they've got a bit of force they're ok, but still too smooth)

The worst Arrow coaster I've ridden is X. Ouch.. OUCH!! - I love arrow coasters but X was a literal big mistake. The worst conventional Arrow coaster I've ridden has really got to be PGA's Demon. Those early generation trains are a bit cramped compared to the newer but still rather old ones. Not only that, there's nasty vertical bumpy jarring throughout the loops, kind of the steelie equivalent of the result of modern oversupported woodies, where there's no flex in the track and your spine is hammered pulling through drops. Maintenance or rather "cost" and "as cheap as possible" is a lovely convenient excuse there..!

Pfft, if you never had the chance to ride the Steel Phantom, youve never really been on a rough Arrow. Trust me, the Steel Phantom was the roughest out there...the headbanging was so bad, they MADE people with earrings take them off. I've never known of another coaster that has made people do that, ever. Dont get me wrong though, I loved the ride, it was truly ground-breaking, and probably the last time a small little park like that will ever have the fastest rollercoaster in the world. But man, that thing was rough in those loops, especially if you werent used to that.

if ANYONE says VorteX at PKI...my wrath shall never end...VorteX is a great ride with tons of airtime, and a nice layout. Easilly Arrow's best.

Out of all the ones I've been on

*Vortex-PKI

*Top Gun-PKI

*Corkscrew-CP

*Magnum-CP

*Gemini-CP

*Adventure Express-PKI

*TrailBlazer-HP

*ThuNderaTion-SDC

I think Trailblazer. Its way too short, the layout is nonexistant, and your too close to the ground for comfort while it's sideways.

I would put a vote in for:

1. Orient Express-I can see why the park got ride of it. Maintenance costs on the ride increased by 16% in the last 3 yrs of operation and began to have axle failures. Nessie now holds the claim to the world's only interlocking loops...wheeee..lol

2. Demon (tie). Part of it is (lack of) maintenance, but that ride is a complete headache.

***New Sponsorship deal with Tylenol of Goody's headache power should add to the ride capacity..lol

Out of... (6)

Psycho Mouse

Demon

Matterhorn (Both sides)

Ninja

X

Gold Rusher

I really actually enjoyed all of them! Demon is kind of rough, but the restraints don't come close to my head so I don't really mind all that much. I really like the double corkscrews; they are just fun the way they feel like they are holding the same exact force the whole time.

And they are all just fun to me especially X, even though they are rough!

GASM at SFGADV is getting to be unrideable, but it hasn't always been this way. I've been on it after the trains have been overhauled and it can seem like a different ride. However I won't sit here and bash Arrow rides; remember these rides were developed in the 70's (Corkscrews) and 80's (megaloopers). They were early innovators in steel coaster design; that's why there are so many out there; unfortunately they didn't take their designs to another level after their initial success.

I love SFDL's Viper, and I like Dragon Mountain at Marineland, as well as Demon at SFGam. I even mildly enjoyed Dragon Fire at PCW.

But Shockwave at SFGAm was just brutal. I remember thinking it looked a lot like SFDL's Viper, therefore assuming i'd enjoy it, but I was so wrong. Every single turn on that ride caused my head to slam into the OTSR. I did like the first drop, and the drop off of the mcbr, which hurt, but was cool at the same time.

I can see why it was removed. It also took up a rediculously large amount of space, SFMM's Viper proves that wasn't necessary.

Since I've only ridden one Arrow...

Viper at SFMM... The seats have so little legroom that I felt like I was on a kiddie coaster... Plus, the trim brakes on that thing are so annoying that I was thinking "WHAT IS UP WITH ALL THIS HEADBANGING BACK AND FORTH?!" by the middle of the ride...

I have a question. If you people who say you hate Arrow coasters so much, why do you have like 20 on your list? If you hate them, why do you keep riding new ones? Is it really just for the credit??

(I didn't mean that to sound like I'm calling you guys stupid or anything )

I don't hate Arrow's, but some of them really do suck to ride.

I don't mide riding most Arrow's because I have techniques I use to ride them. The small ones like mine trains and mouses are rough, but your not going so fast so it's much easer to handle. On the loopers you can hold onto the OTSR to keep yourself from banging around, so even though they are rough they are easy to handle. On the hypers however, all there only is the lap bar, wich you cant use to steady yourself, so you just slide around and bang into stuff.

As I mentioned before, the only ones I hate to ride are the hypers (Magnum and Desperado).

^^^It's more than for the credit. Some of them can be decent rides, so it really is worth it to ride more and see if they're good or not. I've only been on one that I didn't like, and it's gone, so I guess I don't hate any.

I'm going to CP this summer, and i'll have five new Arrow credits when that trip is over. Maybe i'll like them, maybe I won't. We'll see. Gemini looks great! Magnum looks like it might let me down! I can't wait to try them.

Easily, Drachen Fire at BGW- Great design with terrific elements, and plenty of pacing to it, BUT...

The 'intensity' of the ride would have scared off even those with the strongest of necks. The rising curve off of the 'batwing' element, especially in the front few rows was enough to send anybody to the hospital, and the crackover curve out of corkscrew following the midcourse block brack was pretty damn rough (Even after they 'edited' their desgin by removing the offending corkscrew it was still pretty harsh.)

Let's see, I've been on the following:

Magnum

Gemini

Corkscrew (Cedar Point)

Dahlonega Mine Train

Adventure Express-BEST MINE TRAIN EVER!!!!

Cedar Creek Mine Ride

Vortex

Iron Dragon

Top Gun

I'd say Corkscrew at Cedar Point is the worst. The camel back hill before the loop smashed my crotch, and the corkscrews had a lot of in them.

Again, more people saying Steel Phantom was rough, but I went on that thing many times, and I never once got my head bashed around.

There must be something I'm missing here, because I can't recall ever having this sort of problem on an Arrow, ANY arrow. Is it because I'm only about 5'7 in height, or what?

I can't really pick a worst Arrow, but I've never quite gotten the appeal of Magnum.

The taller you are the better, that way you can press you shoulders into the restraint to keep yourself still.

I've only been on two arrow coasters:

Demon @ Six Flags Great America

Python @ Busch Gardens Africa

I'd have to say that Python was the worst. It has a really rough double corkscrew (but what arrow coaster doesn't?) The only thing that saves Demon is its suprisingly smooth first drop and double loops.

However, Demon at SFGAm has BRUTAL corkscrews. The trick is to keep your head pushed up against the back of the headrest, but at the bottom of the second hill, your head flies forward and it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get your head back.
