Six Flags Darien Lake (SFDL) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Yeah even the big parks like CP and CW are only two day parks.  If they could build the park up to something like that then the hotel will pay off. Until then it's a  bit of a waste

Jeez. We're staying at Breakers for 3 nights, which will even leave a lot of intentional downtime. I have never been to SFDL, but I imagine the park can be done in four hours, not four days.

Six Flags buying Darien Lake feels like a pipe dream at this point. I expect them to end the lease to even operate the park as soon as possible, whether there is an exit clause or they need to wait for it to expire. This is entirely speculative, of course, but I just have a hard time seeing this weird operating set up as something Six Flags wants to spend time on when they have all these parks they need to operate now. Plus, they have already making it clear they are looking to downsize on some level.

Wait a minute, they're offering a 4-night package to Darien Lake?  What are you gonna do for the other 95.5 hours you're there?  Sunbathe in the farmlands?

Yes.  It's expired, and while they were offering a discount, I just cant understand the thought process here.  Even if you do the dry park and waterpark you still don't even need 2 days.  If they really want to push packages like this they need to invest.  This isn't that type of park.  It has the bones to be, just isn't being looked at as a park worth new attractions.

My guess it's for the people who like camping for the sake of camping?  I mean, I don't get it, but I'm sure people like that exist.

I enjoy camping, but if I'm going camping to enjoy camping I want to be in the woods, not in a field next to an amusement park, but that's just me.
Maybe they hope people from a distance will think it's close enough to Niagara Falls to make it worth a stay.  I thought that deal was odd when I saw it too.

When I had my travel trailer, the most I ever did at DL was 3 nights. That was with young kids and not going to the park after the 3rd night.

I am an accountant in the hospitality industry. From my experience, I would expect something like this to be an effort to increase likely sad occupancy numbers on Monday/Tuesday. Pay for Friday and Saturday, which is probably common, and get two more days for the half the cost of the already lower Monday rate? People will take the deal. Most of their customers are not hardened theme park vets that have a solid understanding of how much there is to do at the park. It makes sense to use the beds as a loss leader to drive further revenue in the park to offset it. Food, drinks, souvenirs, etc.

Pretty shocked.  Predator is getting more Titan Track this season.  I figured Mind Eraser would be their 2025 investment.  Looks like they are doing the 1st airtime hill (which could make that part really fun)....not sure ab the 1st drop though.

I know the popular thing is to complain about not getting new rides or investments (I'm guilty as well), but it really is nice to see the strategy they are taking as of late.  Refurbing/maintaining the coasters and rides they already have is no small effort.  Are we ever going to have a "top tier park"? No.  Are they just giving up on the park like people can make it seem on different social platforms?  Also no.  It's very refreshing to see.  Just my opinion 🤷‍♂️

When are they going to get a second train on ROS?

Probably not until they eventually paint the coaster also.  It would be great if they did it this year or next year, but really who knows.

Is there a chance that the closing of Six Flags America will impact Six Flags Darien Lake at all? Is it a sign that the new Six Flags will leave their management lease with Darien Lake? Or will they take it as an opportunity to take a couple rides from SFA and relocate them to Darien Lake, maybe even one of the coasters to prop up Darien Lake instead? I know this is all speculation but I am genuinely curious to see if anyone here knows anything or has any theories on how Darien will be impacted.

I think it's hard to say if the closing of SFA will impact SFDL.  Could we get a coaster from them, maybe.  The thing is that none of their coasters was considered great. Maybe the Premier spaghetti bowl or one of the kids coasters.

They also only had a few flat rides that would work at DL.  Further complicating things is that they may not want to put these rides into parks they don't own.

Honestly I see some of the water rides and slides as possibilities to come here, if anything

Not sure how truthful this is, but Screamscape mentioned in their post on SFA other stuff that could happen to other parks according to his "sources". So again, take this with a massive grain of salt. With that said, he said that the parks under management contracts could potentially see Six Flags pull out of their respective contracts. This obviously includes Darien Lake. Anyone know more on how truthful this could end up being? If it is true, I doubt we'll see any ride relocations from SFA.

If SF does continue managing SFDL, they just bought new trains for Superman at SFA literally this year. Those trains feel like a lock to go to SFDL. Even if Six Flags pulls out, the market for those is pretty small and they need to sell them somewhere. Darien Lake could still end up with them. Honestly, it feels likely no matter what unless Darien Lake straight up closes.

I definitely see the Superman trains coming to SFDL.  With all the infrastructure work being done they could potentially....key word *potentially*...be prepping the park to be sold to a new owner, or perhaps SF buys it out of the contract.  Time will tell

It is hard to come up with a reason as to why Six Flags would be interested in purchasing Darien Lake when they are otherwise openly looking to downsize their portfolio. It is also just as hard to imagine a large company that is saying "hey, we want to have less" viewing the sort of management contract they have with Darien Lake as something positive too. Obviously I don't know for sure, but I'd say all signs point to them getting out of the deal at the first point it makes sense and Darien Lake losing the Six Flags name once again.

But still, regarding the trains that Six Flags America literally just bought, where else could they even go? SFNE? They'd have to be modified to make Massachusetts happy, but I guess it is possible. Anyone know how old those trains are? I am not sure there is a single other competitor for them. Could they be ran on any other Intamin hyper?

I would say SF would want to purchase SFDL for the extra revenu from the hotel and campground.

Also, the only way SFA's intamin hyper trains come here are if that coaster gets completely scrapped which I don't see happening. I think it gets moved to a park like Michigan's Adventure or Great Escape (if they have room) or sold outside the chain

Six Flags does not make the largescale type investments at its smaller parks to move and refurbish a monster like Superman. It would be pretty similar to just building a new hyper in all likelihood in terms of cost and we know they aren't going to do that at parks like Great Escape or Michigan's Adventure. And not that it matters since they wouldn't do it either way, but it would also be worse than building a new one too.
