cfc Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I think they should add the Matterhorn's "Harold on a Stick" to EE--all he does is growl and move his arms, anyway. Boing! "Gr-r-r-r-r!"
Mr.Six Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Every yeti that doesn't make a small child laugh by the end of the day gets shot in the face with a nailgun.
Coasterlvr_nc Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Maybe im just ignorant, but what is the "bird on a stick"?? Ive never ridden EE so I am not entirely sure if it is something you would notice in POV videos or not..
Coasterlvr_nc Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 oh, thank you. I've never noticed that before.
SharkTums Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 ^You may not have noticed because it's been gone for a LONG time now.
Erik Johnson Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I think all the effects of Everest worked only during the first few weeks of operation. This includes the super rare mist tunnel effects that were removed due to moisture setting off the ride's safety sensors. I think the Bird on a Stick has stopped working for around a year and a half now. I too will be happy for its return. You can find a full onride video with all the effects working right here: [tprtv]http://themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=expeditioneverest_3 [/tprtv]
holyblakbelt Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Well that's sad. If that happens, when I get on the ride in the future, I'll probably be like, "Where's the Yeti?" It would destroy some the already impressive scenery of the ride.
robbalvey Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Once again, for those of you just joining us now...all you need to know is the following: - The yeti is broken, but he will be back. - Bird on a stick is broken, but he too will be back. It will just take some time because the ride does not have the luxury of going down for the length of time they need to fix both of these things. But the next time the ride does have a longer rehab, I'm sure you'll see both of these return. --Robb
TheHulk Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Pardon if it's a dumb question, but what is the bird on a stick actually suppose to do? In the video, it looks like it just comes out and retracts. Never been on EE, but I plan to soon. Hopefully the Yeti will be back running again by then. MOD EDIT: Not a dumb question at all, I'm a mod here and have no idea what the bird on a stick does. larrygator
robbalvey Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 ^ It comes out an retracts. Yup. That's pretty much it! And that's why it's earned the moniker of "Bird on a Stick!" --Robb
Hockeydad Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Everything I've read about Everest points to the Yeti costing millions and being the most advanced animatronic in the world. I can't remember the exact cost of Yeti but it was several million. When they had all those specials on TC & Discovery a couple of years ago one of their top imagineers, Joe Rhode talked about it. He was several million, and was one of the largest, and most life-like ever created up to 'til that point.
coasterdude5 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 oh, thank you. I've never noticed that before. I've been on the ride 3 1/2 times and I've never noticed it! I didn't notice that the mist was gone last time I rode it in March of 2007. Maybe it was still there.
Justin Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 The Yeti animatronic is not the part that is broken. It's the foundation below him that is fractured and needs to be replaced. To do this they would need to take out Mr. Yeti and rebuild the foundation he is supported by.. Disney doesn't want to close down EE for any sort of rehab in the distant future in terms of it might kill attendance or guest draw to the park.. Hence they aren't jumping to fix Mr. Yeti..
The Alex Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I caught EE in the early summer of 07. Luckily, the yeti was still alive. The mist was working the first day, but when we came back two days later it was off. I can't recall if BOAS was working or not, because I was turning around trying to watch the switch. Which I really couldn't do well. Yeah, nerd. I think the strobelight gag can hold the ride over until rehab. Nobody really notices unless they know it's there. I was talking about it with my cousin when we had exited and the girls behind us went "A yeti almost attacked the train?" GP, gotta love em. Alex

Does that mean they need to build a new pedestal?
Sean Menefee Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 ^^ From page four of this thread: The Yeti animatronic is not the part that is broken. That's one of the rumors. I've also heard the Yeti's back is literally broken.
coastercrazy216 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 So what will they do? Will they close the ride down and make the ride actually good because without the Yeti, that ride is nothing.
Justin Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 WDI has been testing a screen to cover up the Yeti during the rehab if they were to do it without shutting down the ride for a long period of time. It would just project an image of the Yeti for the time being. What it comes down to is park officials are JUST not wanting to send it down for a rehab because they know it's one of their only pulls for attendance and would dramatically decrease the park flow. Attendance jumped significantly once EE opened in 06'. A lot of people blame the Yeti for this failure and to some extent it is part of the problem. As people may or may not know, EE is separated structurally into three sections. Mountain facade, Vekoma track, and Yeti animatronic. Once or if they do get the green light to fix it, they obviously will put it back in A mode by reconstructing the foundation. From what I have heard from some CM's is that WDI still has the shipping crates in the mountain in case they needed to store him for awhile.. But something tells me that won't be happening!

BeemerBoy Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 ^ Heck, I'm not even sure that sentence made any sense anyway.

This is right.
mcjaco Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 This is right. And with that, I deem myself Disney Nerdboy.
