Having the tower lit up like that looks fantastic and I hope they do that with the finished tower!

I really hope this first drop will be even more awesome than the first drop on Expedition Geforce!

Thats a bold statement! It will be hard pushed to do that but you never know this could be a huge surprise in that respect.

It is nearly sure/known that it will have one kind vertical lift or elevator inside one side of the tower and the drop inside the other side (the tower seems to be split with a wall inside) as some people mentioned before. But it is still not clear what kind of lift it will be... most likely a vertical chain lift (maybe with LIMs to lower it in a break down case) or maybe an elevator.

I thought the park announced that the trains would not rise through the tower, meaning it will only be used for a drop (and possible theatrics)

Well it's not every year they build a tall-a$$ vertical drop with a twist

Expedition Geforce have a much longer train than this though, so the air in the back won't be as awesome.

Thought we had a vertical chain lift confirmed by them, inside the tower. Even the the latest Artwork give away the lift and drop are inside that tower.

Here's a summary on all we know, thanks to the official website which is updated time to time:

- Coaster type: hypercoaster

- Construction time: over 1 ½ years

- Pre-planning: since 2010

- Official opening: planned for 2015, theming in 2016

- KÄRNAN is the biggest investment the park has ever made and the largest project by far HANSA-PARK has ever undertaken.

- The hypercoaster “KÄRNAN” will bear a very special name, and it will tell a story.

- Its name and the story woven around it will fit the overall concept of HANSA-PARK and symbolise our Park’s name.

- KÄRNAN’s full name is:

- KÄRNAN'S OATH – Beware of its Spell!

- You will be able to experience the full story and theming in 2016 - one season after the ride has been officially launched.

- KÄRNAN will be a family thrill ride, meaning that it will be both a challenge to and an adventure for families.

- Exactly how tall and how old you must be to enjoy a ride on KÄRNAN will be determined by TÜV Süd, Germany’s technical control body.

- KÄRNAN will be the park’s leading motive in 2015.

- KÄRNAN will sport themed trains.

- The new ride attraction will be planned and designed by Munich-based Werner Stengel - an engineering firm that is highly experienced in planning out-of-the-ordinary hypercoasters

- The attraction will be built by Gerstlauer, a company based in Münsterhausen, who - we are absolutely sure of that - will implement our ideas and bring them to life exactly as we imagine it

- The Munich-based certification body, TÜV Süd, will be involved in the planning and development and later test and certify the hypercoaster

- KÄRNAN will be what is known as a “signature ride”, and it will be visible from afar.

- The hypercoaster will feature a distinct custom layout tailored to fit perfectly into HANSA-PARK

- KÄRNAN will not feature an inclined lift, but a vertical lift

- KÄRNAN will feature a vertical first drop.

- KÄRNAN’S track layout is marked since mid June.

- KÄRNAN will pass through a dark section before the lift.

- KÄRNAN will pass through a dark section before heading into the station.

- KÄRNAN will have a ride element shaped like a heart.

- KÄRNAN will have a an inversion element.

- KÄRNAN‘s inversion element will be in the dark.

- KÄRNAN will also be a terrain coaster running just slightly above the ground on certain ride sections.

- KÄRNAN will feature 16-seat trains with lap bars.

- KÄRNAN’s tower will be founded on piles that combined have a length of about 1.8 km

- KÄRNANs The track height will be 73m (lift hill above the base).

- KÄRNANs The tower will be about 79m high.

- KÄRNANs The tower made of reinforced concrete weighs roughly 4,800t.

- KÄRNAN’s total track length will be 1,235 metres.

- KÄRNAN’s first drop will be a 67-metre plunge.

- KÄRNAN will require about 200 supports outside the buildings.

I stressed in bold that they're talking about a vertical lift, and not an elevator.

Maybe I missed this somewhere, but why won't the full theme be ready until 2016?

Yep, indeed. Just like Fluch Von Novgorod. And judging from videos, the theming does make a difference in Fluch. Heck, the ride does stop in the middle of the vertical lift on purpose!

I would not want to be evacuated from the top of the lift if those stairs were the only way down that seems like it would take a long time to get down! I imagine walking up them would suck a hell of a lot more though.

^ This will most likely receive the new magnetic brakes that Smiler have on it's lift, rather than regular anti rollback, which makes lift evacuation unnecessary.

Smiler has had lift hill evacuations since it opened even with the new magnetic anti roll back system it uses so it is still possible that it may happen. Either way though I don't like vast amounts of stairs so climbing up or down them doesn't appeal to me in the slightest

How? Shouldn't it roll back slowly to the bottom?

Posted

^It should. I don't think they've had to evacuate yet as the train does roll slowly to the bottom of the lift hill. If they have evacuated then i think it will have been from the bottom rather than on the lift hill itself.

Posted

^I can't say I know the exact reason as I am not a ride engineer but it happened on the rides media day with a load of "celebrities" on the ride. It was covered in this news article and you can see they had begun evacuating the ride on the lift from the pictures.

^ I think the procedure of the train slowly rolling back down the lift hill only happens on the vertical lift. If it isn't vertical it is evacuated normally.

An anti roll-back device is redundant and the chain itself is capable of keeping a train from falling back. In order to slowly get back to the start, I think they have to make the chain rolls the other way, but if the motor was the cause of the evacuation, it might get stuck in the middle.
