CloneCaptain38 Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I don't think anyone should judge the look of the trains just yet, not until they are all hooked up and on the track, and testing. There may be additional work to be attached to the trains, decals, or props to make them look really cool. I think the trains will be just fine. If SFMM thought they wouldn't look right for the coaster, they wouldn't have ordered this particular design, so we'll have to wait and see. Sunday is testing day, so should be exciting.
ghost007jas Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I don't think each individual car's "front" has to have a stellar look because when you see them all hooked together you won't really be looking at each individual car. Â I'm interested to see how they do the front car... But these look really nice thus far!
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Trains have arrived! http://travel.latimes.com/daily-deal-blog/index.php/terminator-salvation-4485/#more-4485      Nice Speakers!  Yay!!!
netdvn Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Now that I've seen the trains again, I DO have to admit that the front of the train doesn't really seem right. Â I think they should've painted the fronts a silver color so it doesn't look like one of those car floormats or even a rusty color. And maybe they should've sharpened the edges a little bit and probably added bolts to make it look a bit more mechanical... Â But I still love the trains either way.
DiSab Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 A cover couldn't incorporate a grab-bar. MF's don't have grab bars, and they wouldn't have a grab bar on the car in front of yours...that wouldn't be safe. Â My bad. I haven't been on a GCI, so I didn't know for sure. I'm just going off pictures - I thought these black bars were grab-bars, but I see that they aren't. They fooled me. Â On another note, I wonder how much the metal parts and speakers weigh, and if it's enough to make a significant difference in speed or tracking?
KFConcepts Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I'd love to see a wooden Terminator fighting the resistance. Anyone got a match? It's good to see that "quality" American style theme design is alive and well. Thanks to Manta for balancing this out at least.  Sorry, but I don't think they look as good as everyone else seems to think. Deep down, the theme doesn't fit a wooden coaster, and these sheet metal trains don't either.  Loved that! It's exactly what I was thinking as I read through the comments until I gladly got to yours.  This theme is a total missed opportunity, but hey ... take what we can get right? New coaster in a rough economy. I'm okay with that.  ...........
DiSab Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I do agree that a wooden coaster doesn't fit at all with a Terminator theme, but the trains sure as hell do. If the scenery around the ride goes along with the theme, and from what's been done so far it looks like it will, it should work. But the trains are fantastic - after looking at various pictures, they actually leap-frog over Troy's trains to become my favorite-looking GCI trains. I really like what SF did and the way they came out.
Tchu Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I do agree that a wooden coaster doesn't fit at all with a Terminator theme, but the trains sure as hell do. Â I think that's actually the problem One doesn't fit the theme much at all... the other fits it almost too much. And they clash. Â I have to agree with Elissa, these trains just don't fit a wooden coaster. It's one thing to say the general theme doesn't fit... and then to surround the coaster with futuristic/apocalyptic theming, but the trains are different. They go on the coaster, so they're gonna clash more... look even more out of place. These trains are faily clunky/mechanical/futuristic looking. The coaster is a gorgeous, classic looking wooden roller coaster. It just doesn't fit. Â Plus, the GCI Flyer trains were kinda old-school classy looking train styles. So the theme specifically doesn's seem to fit with these trains. Â The coaster itself is beautiful. I could at pictures of it day after day. The curves and all that lattice work just look amazing. The Terminator sign at the entrance looks incredible as well. But the trains just don't look good. Don't look like they belong on a wooden coaster.
TATSU16 Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I think the trains look perfectly fine, i think once their on the track testing they will look great, i just hope that the front train will have something cool on the front of it instead of wat the other cars do.
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I'm glad the trains are here, but I agree with the clash of the themes. A B&M sitdown would be great in terms of fitting in with "Terminator" themeing. That's because it's a steel coaster. Â A wooden coaster typically has less "mechanical" themeing in general, no matter what park you go to. I like how a new ride is being themed to a great looking new movie soon to come out, but I disagree with it being a wooden coaster. Â Oh well, I don't think the trains look that bad, and it's a new, better ride. So look on the bright side! I think it'll be wonderful anyways!
Manic Monte Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Put me in the group that thinks the trains look incredible (great job GCI guys), but that they do not fit the idea of riding a wooden coaster. Â Having said that, it seems as though that's exactly what SFMM wanted with this ride, "not typical" or "outside the box". In that sense I think they got what they wanted. A metal theme on a wooden coaster? On board audio? Â This is a purist's nightmare, and if it works, it may change the way we view how a wooden coaster should be.
Guest Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 When TDK opened the first thing I thought was "if they did this theming on an actual good coaster SF would have some amazing rides" Â Looks like this is it
rawrtotheargh Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 AGREED. The front panel is bland and uninspired. I'm wondering how the front row will have audio. However, I will say, the side paneling looks good, but, the view from the back is less than stellar. Â The photos don't show the lead car so the banner might make it look a little more interesting. Â And I agree that the cars look alright, but I wouldn't go as far to say BEST MF trains ever. Can't wait to see them go through the course though!!
ethans_dad06 Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I think the trains look great. And as said before, I think they will look better on the track. Also I know it's hard to imagine the theme of Terminator with a wooden coaster, but Tim did say at WCB that the theme will make sense when you go through the pre shows. I'm going to reserve my judgement about how relative the theme fits till I can ride it.
hobbit Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I think the train looks awesome, I am inquisitive how those modern train looks on a woody,
Volt Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Those trains are looking so nice! Â Wonder what the speakers do .....
hobbit Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 i think terminator soundtracks ??? maybe gun shots and technical sound effects.. who knows, who knows... Â Â the soundtracks of the movie are cool: Â Terminator Salvation version - Nine Inch Nails "The Day The World Went Away" Â http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_2Y-9wRQzU&feature=related The Terminator Soundtrack: Escape From The Police Station
ebl Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 The trains look different than what I expected, but seem to fit the theme. I'm still not crazy about a wooden coaster themed like this, but if it's a good ride---which it appears to be---that's what counts. Â Eric
macca_boy69 Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I have to say this. But the ride is not themed to the "Terminator" Franchise. It is themed to "Terminator: Salvation". Obviously the theming has to do with this movie and not the Governators. Maybe the wooden coaster works. Wait until the Movie comes out. Thats all. Â Â Robby
rcroques Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I think the theme is completely feasible. Â It's possible that since the machines have taken over, the Resistance is forced to start again from the bare bones, hence the wooden coaster idea. I may be reaching, but it's the way that I see it as working if they are going to make the ride fit the theming. Â That said, those are some sexy trains... can't wait to see these things test. Â Sincerely, R.C.
shepp Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 God, I'm glad I'm heading south to SFMM early next month. This thing is either gonna be a revolutionary woodie or a milestone in the annals of hype...and I'm betting on the former. Â Gorgeous train. And after all, if steel coasters can have Old West themes...

The theme makes perfect sense.
X2coasterfreak Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 To me when I first saw the trains I thought that they kind of looked like a wild mouse car. I just am wondering what the lead car looks like. Those trains to me now look great and I am really excited to see them test.
Jds03 Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 When I saw this on the front page I honestly thought it was a car for a Whip at first.
