DiSab Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Now that I've seen it in action, I can honestly say that it looks infinitely more fun than I originally imagined. Something about the way the cars swing out and the entire body rotates... Looks like it'll be a fun ride.
Shavethewhales Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Seeing the thing in action really gives you a lot more appreciation for how much actual movement there is as the car swings through the curves. Looks a lot better than I originally thought.
taytig Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I just watched the video and I think that this likes like a lot of fun! I would love to have ride like this in my home park! It looks more intense than previous videos have shown. I'm excite to see the full coaster in operation! Â David
DBru Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I've been wanting to see the return of the suspended coaster, and now it's finally happening! Â So the concept is a bit different, but I think the free-swinging motion, along with the car rotation will provide an experience similar to, if not better than, my favorite Arrow concept!
Jds03 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I've been wanting to see the return of the suspended coaster, and now it's finally happening! So the concept is a bit different, but I think the free-swinging motion, along with the car rotation will provide an experience similar to, if not better than, my favorite Arrow concept!  That's exactly what came to my mind when i saw the video! Its so great to see more coasters with free swinging abilities. Its really a feeling on coasters that's completely unique. It feels almost more like flying than coasters meant to create the sensation of flying! Even though flying coasters are cool, and the positioning is awesome, they still don't have the natural, unpredictable feeling of free swing.  maybe someday we can see a free swinging coaster in the flying position... sigh, childish dream. haha.
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I like it! It seems noisy, but this is the test version to see if it appeals to riders. But it looks like a good start. Nice job S&S! Can't wait to see more from it soon.
dr.gumbo Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 It seems like the suspended coasters back, and with a vengeance. Â That is if its a success.
Mechanic Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I liked the looks of this design since seeing the animated preview. Seeing it as a real working prototype only makes it look even better. The coaster looks to have a vastly different ride experience from one side of the train to the other. It's almost like a twin track coaster with only one track. That will open up the theming possibilities and should help with re-ride appeal.
DiSab Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I can't wait to see how this turns out once its built at Sommerland. Should turn out very interesting.
Thom25 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 jdso3, I think you hit the nail on the head. I didn't even think of a suspended coaster until dbru mentioned it, then you took it too the next level (flyers). Â I never thought much of the concept, but after seeing it in action, it does look like it would be similar to a suspended (no doubt). In my opion, the one major weakness of flyers is the lack of a "free swing" - but some B&M seats on the bottom side of the "boats" (for lack of a better word) - and you would have one hell of a ride.

Yeah, i thought about what it would be like to combine the flying position with free swing in chemistry class, because the turns after Big Bad Wolf's finale drop are so awesome its almost an out of body experience! Then i thought what it would be like to put riders in a flying position during that.  But then i realized what the G's would be like if we strapped flying seats to BBW, and well..... that would NOT be pretty. But when i saw this model i realized that their might be a way in the distant future, to make suspend flying coasters without killing people!  I like it! It seems noisy, but this is the test version to see if it appeals to riders. But it looks like a good start. Nice job S&S! Can't wait to see more from it soon.  Hahahaha, " Noise" and "S&S" are two things that come hand in hand. Those of you who were familiar with HypersonicXLC will know, especially from its notorious break run.
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 ^I forgot about the "S&S" and "Noise" Relationship. Very true, especially with Power Tower! S&S should put some money into development for noise reduction.
Capitalize Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 That looks really neat. The animation didn't look terribly interesting, but seeing the prototype, wow. Very cool
FLIPDUDE Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I agree. this looks much better and interesting than it did in the original animation! I still doubt it's going to be a big thrill, and mostly a family ride, and I can't help but worry about the low capacity this thing looks like it's going to have. But it does look like alot of fun and the two sides make for something you'd want to re-ride
DATman Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 ^8 riders per car, multiple cars per train doesn't seem that bad to me. Sort of like X but much easier to load/unload.
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 ^Actually, it is split up into single cars, not multiple cars per train. But it would be better that way, I agree.
Jds03 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 This is S&S's problem. They have the technology and neat ideas, but they just don't understand the concepts of ride capacity like B&M or Intamin does. They have the development team which can make groundbreaking rides like this, they just need to make them focus on increasing the amount of riders in each train. If they can make rides like this, i don't see why they can't do something that simple.
Team Thriller Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 i don't see why they can't do something that simple. Â That simple? Your joking right.... Â --James
Jds03 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 That simple? Your joking right....  --James  Well, by "Simple" I'm sort of basing it off a comparison between what they've developed already (very clever and thoughtful innovations) and something they could do that would probably be easier than what they have already done. I'm just saying it would probably not be too hard for their development team to work out capacity issues if they put their mind to it, biased on what we've seen them come up with already.
Team Thriller Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 ^ True. But you also must remember that in order to improve ride capacity you must change the trains, and that could affect the whole ride. Also, the breaking system. In order to commodate very good capacity, the breaking system has to be very advanced. I know S&S has that advanced technology, but remember that in order for the system to work, the park itself has to have the mechanics to operate the system which can use lots of money and training that the park might not want to spend. Look at Disney for an example. California Screamin can run up to 6 trains without a problem. The ride handling that many trains is very complex. (Which is why the coaster can shut down a few times a day. As for many Disneyland coasters) Â I doubt the park needs to handle the amount of crowds Disney parks handle. And I doubt they really want to have that much money spend on ride capacity which really they aren't dieing to need. Â --James
LcHg5265 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 According to RCDB, the coaster with have a capacity of 900 pph. Â http://www.rcdb.com/id4312.htm
kamikazewatermelon Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Actually the capacity doesn't seem all that bad. they seem to be able to oad in no time at all and 8 people per car is pretty good.
DBru Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 ^Same as a Eurofighter. Â How will riders exit the cars? (I have the same question about X2...)
kamikazewatermelon Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 They probably just exit and enter from the same side or in a different station.l
