Moose
That looks great! The waterpark has really seen some nice additions/ updates!
_koppen
So I had to go to Skara and check out the new expansion of the water park. Â Skara is a pretty small park, but it has some great features for families. For me however Skara has always been a water park, and therefore I am really excited for the last two years additions from Proslide. I only took some pictures from the water park, therefore I won't do a new thread for these pictures. Â It just looks so good. Nice landscaping around concrete slide. This is how it looked just a few months ago. And look at it now. It's so steep. Trap door porn. This one had a really comfortable shut down lane, however it's still a high speed slide, so after about 10 rides my back prevented me from more rides. Wave pool and concrete slide. Very well done tunnel down into the abyss. Last years addition, a Proracer that was just as awesome as all the other Proslide mat racers. And one last picture from earlier. Â I think they should keep focus on the water park side of things fore a few more years. Most things in there except these two new additions is very outdated, and we only rode the rides that were not one of the two new ones once. Â The tivoli and coaster side of the park are very good for families as it is now, and I think the water park is in more urgent need of investments. A mammoth family raft, a Tornado and maybe something like below would be great additions to it.
_koppen
Bad news from Skara The S&S free fly coaster Tranan at Swedish amusement park Skara Sommarland had an incident this saturday. One of the cars didn't stop at the final brakerun and collided with a car in the station. Several people where injured. Nothing serious though, only bruises. Â The incident was caused by an electrical malfunction. The exact reason to why the brakes didn't work is still unknown, and the attraction will stay closed until the park finds out the reason to why the brakes didn't work. Â More as I find out what the investigation says.
Loefet
^ That was really bad news, since that ride is one of the most interesting new coasters for some time.
_koppen
Especially bad is that all modern coasters have fail system that, if the programming or electrical or whatever fails, the ride will close the brakes. Makes me wonder why it didn't happen here.

Will be interesting to find out exactly why this happened but in reality I don't think we will ever know the exact reasons why it happened. Moose
Sad to hear. It is surprising that there weren't more serious injuries due to the rides unique seating arrangements. Â I hope the park and s&s can find and resolve the issue.
_koppen
It has been known for some time now, but I forgot to post it. Skara Sommarland had a really good season this year. Â They were up 15% in attendance (303 000 guests), despite a 9 days shorter season (for a seasonal park that opens on the 6th of June, 9 days is a lot). Â The weather have been great this summer, which always plays a big role in the attendance of our Scandinavian sommerland's. The park has also stated that the new slide Big Drop attracted more people than excepted from audiences that Skara don't really cater to that well, thrill seekers. Â Hopefully we will see more thrilling additions in the future, but I have a feeling that were going to have to wait a few years to the next one, but who knows, they might surprise us. gisco
I assume Tranan was back in operation shortly after the incident?
_koppen
^ That is correct. The park never released any more information about the accident.
_koppen
The park is celebrating 30 years this season, and they just announced that the new attraction will be announced in February, and that it will be one of the biggest investments in the history of the park. Â It will be a water attraction, but they have not said if it will be in the water park, or the amusement park. I know that they are absolute thrilled about there newly found partnership with Proslide, so if it's for the water park I'm sure it will be from them. Â Personally I hope for a magnetic water coaster. Source
_koppen
A picture showing of work close to the wave pool has been posted on the park's Facebook. After hearing the scale of this investment I would actually guess that they may be installing a Proslide hydromagnetic water coaster of some size. It would really make sense. First one in Europe, and it is the hot new thing for water parks. Add to this that Parks and Resorts have become much more aware of what they are installing in their parks and it adds up. It also fits with the announcement of it being one of the biggest investments in the parks history. Source  You don't think that they will try and get everyone going from the "Stockholm area" (or anywhere else north east) to ride Helix at Liseberg to stop by Skara Sommarland by introducing something bigger than just a water slide. It's the typical coaster war, last time was in the late eighties with Lisebergbanan, Stand Up and Jet Line, I don't think that Gröna Lund can counter much this time, but compared to the other two then they are already ahead. Skara Sommarland on the other hand (which is owned by the same guys as Gröna Lund) could counter with something (looping wooden coaster or something), there is still time for next year.   This might not have been to far away from the truth after all. Seems however they are hoping to attract Helix riders by investing big money in a major water attraction instead of trying to counter with a coaster (seriously, it would have been stupid to try and compete with Helix). A water coaster on the other hand makes sense. Even if it's "only" just a big waterside, like a Tornado or something similar, it will still have a big impact in bringing in guests to the park. _koppen
New picture shows that the ride is going in the middle of the water park, right next to the mat racer slide. I'm really hoping for a rocket here, but it will probably be something less expensive. Source

_koppen
It's kind of weird. Looks like they will be getting a King Cobra from Polin. Which is awesome, but I was kind of expecting more since they said it would be one of the biggest investments in the park history, as well as the new relationship with Proslide who seems to be very solid. Â But it's definitely awesome if it is indeed a King cobra, as some here might know i really LOVE Polin!
_koppen
It is a Proslide after all! I would have been glad if it was a King Cobra, they are awesome, but I am a little bit more pleased with this! Â The only stats I have is that the name is Cobra, but I expect Skara Sommarland to release more during they day. In the mean time, here's some photos. This photo makes it look a bit weird, as it dosen't look like a standard Tornado Wave, I remember seeing a model of something more similar to a "cobra", maybe it's that one they are getting. It looks a bit more like a big banked curve, as opposed to a wall. Photo below, it's the one to the left I'm speaking of. The regular Tornado wave is the one to the right of it, for you who don't know. Â Â Whichever of them it is, I expect them to paint a cobra on the inside of it. I'm also hoping for a conveyor belt, but I'm not expecting one. Â Source Sourc
_koppen
Some more info: Â Name: COBRA Opening: June 6th Height difference: 11m / 37 feet Length: 116m / 381 feet Duration: ca. 20 seconds Raft capacity: 4 people cloverleaf Capacity: 500 people/h Investment: 2,4 million USD Height limit: 120cm / 48 inches Height of the wave: ca 13 meter / 43 feet Waterflow: 19 m3/minute (1140 m3/h) Manufacturer: Proslide. It says from the USA on their website, but I'm guessing they will update it to Canada when the press people finds out about it. Â Still no word if it's the standard Tornado wave, but it looks very much like it. Also, given the size of investment, there is pretty much no way it will have a belt for the rafts. _koppen
Looks like it's a regular TornadoWave. I'm really hoping the conveyor belt in this rendering comes true. Can't wait for this sucker to open! Â Source

_koppen
The park have putted up a webcam, so all the water slide nerds can follow construction of the Tornado Wave slide Cobra. _koppen
The ride is now going up quickly! Going by the look of the webcam I would guess the crew have the weekend of. Â Also I took some time of my endless studying to relax a bit today, I draw this up: I've never been a fan of the placement of the go karts at Skara. Sure they are great, but I think they should be moved away from the lake, as that area could be much better used (and better looking) for amusement rides in the future. I would like to see the big track behind the smaller go karts track in the future. The area where the go karts are today could be holding a megalite, with some modifications of the lake line. Not because I'm dreaming, but because I really feel it would be the perfect big attraction for this park. It would also look perfect from across the lake. I would also love to see a Star Flyer, it would also fit great with the target audience. Â Source

_koppen
The ride is now open for buisness! Proslide and Skara did an awesome job on this one, it looks just as well thought through like the free fall slide. Last years season was a huge success, and hopefully this one will be as well. Then maybe we'll see a Proslide Rocket in 2015 The old Space Bowl slide have been repainted and given a new name for 2014 (hopefully they have also renovated the joints in the slide, and not just painted it!)
