TMS? If you're talking about That Metal Show I actually don't watch at all. I've been curious about it but never actually sat down and watched it.

 

If you're into that kind of Music, you should definitely check it out. Three good guys sitting around BS'ing with rock stars and lots of laughs. Guest guitar players and drummers every episode, and lots of informative discussion.

 

I see you are from Southern MD....where abouts. I am out west in Cumberland. Not really a hot bed for music. The biggest we get is Funny Money/KIX every so often.

I'll definitely check it out next time it's on.

 

I'm from St. Mary's County. Really the only music we get to see here are just local bands playing in bars. Most of the time it's country too, ick.

If you've got the money and either a car or some people to go with, just get MDF tickets and hit it up this coming spring. Also, if you're willing to drive up to the Baltimore metro area, I'm pretty sure that Dying Fetus does hometown shows every once in a while.

^ I don't listen to death metal. Opeth is the heaviest I'll go. My dad did take me up to Baltimore to see Halestorm two weeks ago, which was amazing and what got me back behind my drum set despite the wrist problems I've been having.

Fetus is still worth seeing just for an amazing live show and fantastic setlists that get the crowd going, as well as just getting to experience Trey Williams' mindblowing drumming.

The problem I have with death metal is the vocals. I think the instrumentation of death metal is awesome, but all the growling ruins it for me. Just personal preference.

50% of their vocals are a higher, raspier howl instead of growls, as they have a dual-vocalist system.

Saw Fear Factory (though I was exclusively there for Hate Eternal) and they were lame. The energy was there, but Burt's voice is GONE. Harshes have zero power, while his cleans were incredibly faint and off-key and made his reliance on Autotune painfully obvious. It's a good thing that Hate Eternal killed it even with the measly half-hour slot they were allotted.

Coachella sells out in less than 3 hours on Friday for both weekends in April. It's too bad because I would have considered going this year. I guess next year I have to plan ahead and decide if I want to go before tickets go on sale.

I'm only 13, so I listen to Rap and R&B. I prefer R&B as it is not as dirty and the music lyrics sound better, but rap music is upbeat. It makes me wanna

Being a New Englander, there was way too much good hxc, crust, and grindcore around here for me to ever really get caught up in pop-punk, and hanging around with dudes who used to offer their basements up for various emo and screamo acts back in the day served as a gateway to those genres as well.

I almost got caught up in the pop-punk hype, because most of my friends did around the time it got big. Glad I missed that train, honestly. I basically switched from Christian rock straight to metalcore to post-hardcore/emo and other various metal subgenres.

 

And a lot of electronic music.

Ehhh you're not missing out on much. I got my tickets, but had i actually stopped and thought about whether or not it was worth it i probably wouldn't have. The coachella experience is fun! The line up is just ok :/

You actually got tickets in the 2 and 1/2 hour window they were available? You must have been pretty interested then. I think the lineup is pretty solid and varied with something for pretty much everyone. I definitely want to experience Coachella someday, maybe next year. Looking at past years' lineups, a lot of the bands listed in really tiny print have become really big, so Coachella is a place to watch for what may become the next big thing.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't have the stamina to make it through that long of a music festival, although I would love to see Queens of the Stone Age, Beck and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (and maybe even Arcade Fire or Motorhead). It has been at least ten years since I have seen Beck or JSBE & I have never seen QOTSA.

 

I must be really getting old because I have never heard of probably 80% of these artists!

Just finished listening to Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of the War of the Worlds: The New Generation. I used to be a huge fan of the original, and to this day I still really enjoy listening to it on planes, trains, and long car rides. But I still didn't quite know what to expect listening to the reboot.

 

It's alright.....it's not better than the original, but I like it. I can't quite put my finger down on why the original is better because there are aspects of the new version I do enjoy better. I like how much more depth was put into the musical arrangements, I like the added dialogue, and I like how they truly tried to give it a new sound while staying close to its roots. On the other hand, I feel like it will become dated more quickly. The rock aspects are still there, but as much as the dubstep elements worked well enough during the Martian invasion and with the accompaniment, I can't really picture myself looking back on that ten years from now and calling it a classic. Then again, disco is dead (unless you're Daft Punk) and the few disco elements in the original still work very well; so only time will tell.

 

Liam Neeson's voice fits really well for the narrator, but he does not deliver that dark emotional tone that Richard Burton gave. It sounded more like he was reading from a script than actually in those perilous situations where his life or others' lives are jeopardized. The rest of the cast are about the same, not really giving me enough empathy to care about them. The singing voices were alright, but again, they just don't sound as gritty and powerful as the original cast.

 

Overall, the reboot works as a fun thing to listen to every now and again, but it's not going to replace the original. The storytelling aspects work rather well during moments of lyrics or dialogue, but the extensive instrumentals, which were the heart and soul of the original, were trying harder to appeal to a younger crowd than actually driving the story forward. But they're still a lot of fun, the orchestra is great, the guitars are great, the synths, drums, UllaDubUlla; Jeff Wayne is awesome and the album rocks.
