Six Flags Fiesta Texas (SFFT) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I just watched a Rattler POV.(made my back hurt just watching it) But while I was watching it, I totally forgot about the tunnel. I know its probably been said before, but that would be an awesome place for the inversion or just an awesome double down coming out of it. They have so many options for this coaster. Even if all they did was larger version of NTAG, I be happy since SFFT is closer to me. The excitement level is rising.

^Hmm. I wonder if that would work. The tunnel isn't really in a straight line, so it might be kind of difficult to make a barrel roll work inside there. I'll just be happy if they keep the tunnel at all!

By the way, Mrlittle, we apparently went to high school together. Small world!

Yes, they need to keep the tunnel, maybe they will just make it a disco tunnel like NTAG tunnels.

And yes it is a small world after all. I did not think I meet any others from the land of the Pear on here.

^First off: DISCO TUNNEL! Yes please! Now you're making me miss NTAg even more. But yes, I really hope they do something creative with it. I lucked out with a front seat ride on Rattler, but that still didn't make the ride good enough for me to actually appreciate the tunnel.

Second. Thanks a LOT for posting "it's a small world after all."

I think the tunnel is too small for an inversion, although a Hades-like extreme banked turn could go in there...

As for Pearland: The Judy's, one of the most epic bands of all time, were from Pearland. In fact, you're the right age that if your parents are even slightly cool, "Washarama" was probably playing when you were conceived.

I think the tunnel might be the wrong place for the barrel roll personally. After that plunge from the cliff, I think speeds in the tunnel will be to forceful and put to much stress on the track and riders. Some strobe light action would be awesome in there! I think the best place for the barrel roll, (well, at least the most awesome) is after the HUGE fan curve off the quarry, when you go back up where the trim brakes used to be before the boring helix, or like a combo barrel roll- div element right before you plunge into the tunnel. I think that would be cool and speeds would be just about right in my opinion. Also if the barrel roll is elevated, perhaps AFTER the tunnel near the station, so like a station barrel roll fly by.

Here is my idea of what iRat will look like. again, THIS IS AN IDEA!!! NOT THE REAL DEAL! Feel free to share your thoughts...

BLACK- Extended lift height 10-15 feet (space permiting at the bottom of the drop), steep first drop maybe around 80 degrees or similar to that on Outlaw run, as well as the NTAG double up to an over banked turn 90-95 degrees.

RED BOXES- Possible locations for the barrel roll.

ORANGE- Possible places that six flags could utalize and make the coaster turn from a terrain coaster into a wooden twister. Headchoppers, airtime hills, stuff like that...

GIG BLACK ?- Self explanatory as that has all been removed.

SECOND BLACK LINE NEAR STATION- brakes extension (for longer, and multiple trains.)

Looking at your graphic, it reminds me how much wasted track there is between the horseshoe turn and the helix entrance. WOW, that's a lot of plain uphill track.

I'm betting that if there's an epic double-up, it will go there.

SOMETHING will surely go there, as RMC isn't known (yet, anyway) for leaving that much dead space in a layout.

Also, I'd love to see the horseshoe turn go back to its original double-down design. It used to fly over an airtime hill, dive down to the edge of the cliff, and then horseshoe into the quarry, rather than starting the horseshoe from the top of the hill. That could easily be an overbanked hill instead of an airtime hill, and the double-down could be resurrected.

As soon as i heard they were going to do this i looked at the layout and i though that it just HAD to go here.

Unfortunately, i was never able to experience that double down. When i started to layout what i hoped it would look like i thought that exact same thing. Overbank, even out a little bit and then dive right back down. RESURRECT THE DOUBLE DOWN.

If you missed the double-down, you also missed the most epic first drop ever on a wood coaster. That drop was incredible, and the double-down was almost as good.

After that, meh.

God, those Freeze-Frame photos (taken at the bottom of the first drop) were hysterical. So much terror. You could kill an hour or so just hanging out at the video screens, pointing out the people who had probably wet themselves.

This is my evil idea for the layout. This idea is to use all of the existing footers exactly but with a few changes (especially at the end).

I like how you utilized the land from the wagon wheel. I COMPLETELY forgot about that. I also really like what you did with the helix at the top. it looks much, much better. I thought they would either do some twisty layout up there or do something like NTAG with the two big triangles so it would provide many over banked turns. Oh well, 5 more days and we find out for sure!

^5 more days....

Is SFFT one of the confirmed parks making an announcement that day?

While I like the barrel roll coming off the cliff, I have to wonder if that's a good idea right after the MCBR. If they have to stop the train at the brake for some reason and then let it creep off it again, it could make that barrel roll pretty uncomfortable.

I like the idea of doing it on the way up to the helix or even at the station fly-by.

I like the idea of NOT having inversions on it even better.

I LOVE MS Paint coaster!

I love the idea of a Hades-esque banked turn in the tunnel.

Also, I've asked my mom before about the Judy's and she doesn't remember them, but my best friend's dad is a die-hard fan! I've listened to some of their stuff. They're pretty good I guess. Maybe you had to be there.

You have to take into account the timeframe. At that point (early-mid 80's) everything was keyboard-heavy synth pop or guitar-heavy hair bands. There were basically those two sounds coming out of the radio (plus country, since this is Texas) and that was it.

The Judy's had a drummer and a bass player. That was it. In later years they got Barbara Donoho from The Dishes (another local band) and so there was keyboard, but still nothing like the synth pop of the day. Their sound was so utterly in-your-face unique that they became something of the poster band for the non-conformists.

Also, their biggest hit was a totally danceable ditty about the Jim Jones tragedy in Guyana. How's that for contrast?
