3rdShiftCM Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Let's not turn this into one of those stupid CP Vs MM threads! Besides, it was a freakin joke Did anyone get out there over the weekend? I would guess we'll see more track this week.
ChemicalWhore Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 i was there on friday but i didnt go check out any of the construction area i have two more tickets to burn up before the end of the year and ill probably buy some more to go back after i use those tickets. (my job gets discounted tickets for us) Superman wasnt running they tested it a couple of times but never opened it up deja vu had some problem while i was inline waiting to get on but they fixed it rather quick. Other then that it was a pretty good day
runnerodb83 Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 ^ how were the crowds? im headed there on friday, think it will be bad?
ChemicalWhore Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 it was basicly empty they had maybe 100-150 cars in the parking lot when i got there at Noon, everything was pretty much walk on cept for deja vu which had about a 30min wait. X was another story i sat inside the actual station for a hour and 15 mins before we got on i know its a friday so they were only running one train. People were actually getting out of line for x and just leaving since it was talking awhile to get on. Ill probably go back in a couple of weeks on a friday again since it seems like the perfect time to go now.
ahecht Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 GIven all the trouble SFoG has had with their transfer track, we might be seeing serial dual stations (unload/load) instead of parallel stations. We all know how much serial dual stations helped X...
arrowfanman Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Yea...last friday it was empty. Dejavu was a walk-on at 5:30! (And when I say walk-on, I mean, I walked right onto the front!)
runnerodb83 Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 GIven all the trouble SFoG has had with their transfer track, we might be seeing serial dual stations (unload/load) instead of parallel stations. We all know how much serial dual stations helped X... yeah seriously, but i think a lot of the problem is the fact that everytime the train is moved, the seats have to be tilted back...and for people to get on or off the train the seats have to be upright....and each time it takes like 30 seconds to move the seats does it take that long with a flyer?
4718 Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Hey guys, more track has arrived! I tried to take a pic last night of it on the semi that was sitting in the gravel overflow lot, but it didn't come out too good. I will say that it was supports and maybe some random track bits, but I'd put it either on station junk or supports..... I also found out a bit more about the ride itself, first the bogus rumors that I was skeptic the second I heard them. Bogus rumor: "It'll be 420 feet tall with a lift hill that goes up and beyond the mountain and go 120mph, the biggest and fastest Flyer EVER!!!" More believable: "It's most likely going to be somewhere over 200 feet high, but probably close to 220 feet. Not as high as the bogus height, but still a record setter for Flyers. Also, it'll swoop all over the hill, most likely also doing a circle around (or at lest going near) Sky Tower. In other news, Thrill Shot did NOT open this weekend, but is almost there. They had yet to put the "cages" (the mesh net things that wrap around the seats) back on, and there were still random tool boxes and other junk laying around. However, we can still discern that the re-opening is just around the corner because they actually fired everything up and raised it in "elevator mode", where the cart is slowly lifted to the top of the towers and then slowly lowered back down. Not really momentous or special in and of itself, but Thrill Shot's on its way back! Funny thing is that all the NON Thrill Shot workers were talking about how they launched it.....I asked a guy that used to work there with me, and said they only did elevator mode....silly noobs!
arrowfanman Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I dont know...200 ft seems a bit tall, taken that it is already built on the mountain.
black sabbath Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Yeah over 200 ft. seems a little too high for a flyer, I'm assuming we will see one in the 140-175 ft. range. It just seems unlikely to be over 200 ft. but then again SFMM has surprised us before.
incredicoaster Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 Yeah knowing SFMM there gonna suprise us with a 200+foot ride. ooooh flying through the sky at 70+mph I cant wait!
4718 Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I purposely didn't phrase it as a fact, it's just what I heard from a fairly informed source.
Guy T. Koepp Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 God I hope your right! Do you know if it will replace the monorail track through the Mountain? A nice long tunnel with a Barrel roll thrown in. That would be awesome! We at Magic Mountain are gonna have a great 2006. It would only get better if we get the Skyswatter & Drop Tower from SF Broke Ass-tro World. Guy "If Six Flags found dead employees on the street, they would pilfer their shoes and sell them to reduce their debt... but I'll happily take those shoes if they re-locate em" Koepp
rollermonkey Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 How lame would it be if you guys got a flyer similar to air. Have you actually ridden Air? I'd rather ride that B&M beauty 1000 times than those flying dutchmen clones once! With the immense room this ride seems to be taking, I think we will all be very happy with the ride experience offered by this new flyer. I just hope the park improves other areas of operation instead of relying on a new ride to bring in guests. But that's the 6F way, isn't it? As for 200' I'm skeptical, remember that the G-forces on flyers feel much more intense, which is why they are all so (comparatively) slow. Chris B
4718 Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 God I hope your right! Do you know if it will replace the monorail track through the Mountain? A nice long tunnel with a Barrel roll thrown in. That would be awesome! That it would be, busted old Metro isn't gonna be using those tunnels and crap any time soon, why not make a super cool feature to the new coaster? I'd be all for it! ....SF Broke Ass-tro World. Ha! As for the validity of the 200' rumor, let's just say it's a lot easier to believe than the retarded 420' one I heard.
Guest Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I think It is very possible that it will be 200 feet tall. I think It will put a couple of coaster to shame. I think the new coaster will do alot then scream
SharkTums Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I do hope it's NOT like Air...honestly I hate to say this but the Vekoma's and even the Zamperla flying machine of death are all better than Air! Alton Towers does amazing with Nemesis, Oblivion, and Rita, but Air...grrrr...
NitroJoeC Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 (edited) What?! LOL, Elissa, I thought you didn't do drugs...I'm disappointed. Air is really tame but the Volare? Wow! JC Edited September 26, 2005 by NitroJoeC
SFMM rocks my socks Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 I really dont care if its like air. I just don't want a Vekoma coaster! It would be cool if it did use the metro tunnel and if it went around the skytower, but I bet it won't just because MM doesn't seem be to smart but then again who knows. I just hope its going to be a good ride. By the way does anyone know whats going on with the skytower and the Orient. :?
SharkTums Posted September 13, 2005 Posted September 13, 2005 ^^Joe, It was actually really funny...We had an AMAZING first ride on 'Flying Coaster' and didn't understand what everyone had been saying...in fact we went back later in the day and then had what I'd imagine is a more typical ride on the death machine and regretted it the rest of the day! On another note, I'm glad it won't be like Air, but seriously Joe, we're all happy you've seen the layout but you don't need to mention it everytime you post!!!! (Unless of course you'd like to post the layout here!)
NitroJoeC Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 (edited) I never thought it was capable of amazing rides! It wasn't the worst ride of all time, but wow, what were they thinking! Edited September 26, 2005 by NitroJoeC
4718 Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Hey hey, kids! I stopped by Six Flags earlier today, and braved the odd looks as I sat in my car next to the empty lot with the new coaster junk in it......every time a car came, I held up a piece of paper and looked in random directions trying to look as close to a confused new applicant or something, it worked though. Sea container? Sure wasn't there the last couple of days.... Anyway, like I said, I'm pretty darn sure those are supports, more specifically, station supports. Yay!
incredicoaster Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 oooh supports I wonder what color they are
SLUSHIE Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 If you look closely at the support pile you can see some dark red in there. That orange is ugly.
