SeaWorld Orlando (SWO) Discussion Thread

P. 278: Expedition Odyssey flying theater ride details released!

Recommended Posts

I can't believe all the complaining about this ride! I mean, at least it's not wood, has a theme that makes no sense, is really short, and has an onboard audio system like some other unnamed new for 2009 coaster!

Come on guys, this is a Busch Park, they're not going to design some top 10 ride anymore. They don't want to push the envelope with forces like they did with Kumba and Montu and despite the 54'' height restriction they do want to attract the 'family type' of rider.

I am still SHOCKED that they put this into Sea World Orlando instead of a more family type water attraction or ANYTHING else! Be happy you're getting a credit!

but if we were only positive, wed have nothing to bitch about! .

Seriously, I dont think anyone here is complaining too much about a new B&M flyer, period.

If BEC (if its stays the same) were to decide to invest on a world breaking top 10 coaster it would not be for any Sea World Park...

For a park like SWO Manta is a nice addition and to the GP, particularly in Florida, they will be excited to see something "new" like this.

I am excited to get another flyer credit since superman is a ok coaster but not what I wanted to be and hopefully manta would change my mind. (I really want to go out west!)

^^^People are just trying to hold true to Wes' "LIFE CYCLE OF A 'NEW COASTER' THREAD ON TPR". But they don't have a "crudely done 3D video", so we can only use a more-crudely done 2D photo.

^Agreed. And it's not like they could've built a second Tatsu even if they wanted to. They don't have the elevation change to make a 120+ft pretzel loop, much less in the second half of the ride after it loses some momentum. I'm really pleased with what they have. After all, Kraken and Kumba and Great White and Steel Eel all appear to be fairly "generic" and "run-of-the-mill" layouts. I don't hear a lot of complaints about those.

So true I can see it already with the Terminator thread too. I wonder how fast the cycle will pop up once CP announces a new coaster for ______ year.

I don't know how people can be complaining about a new flyer that does

not have a S:UF layout. I think it is a great addition for Busch. I think the

coaster itself is already being underated. How can you talk about the

layout after MCBR if we have not seen it in person yet?

Yeah, that's extremely true Sam. (Yes, this is Mike by the way)

Busch does wonders with coasters when they have limited space. I mean, look at SheiKra? They made the most thrilling ride they could with the small footprint of space they had right there, and I thought it turned out great.

Sure it's not "Holy crap that was epic!" status to most of us, but to the GP, which is really what matters to the park in the grand scheme of things, SheiKra is amazing.

That's what I'm thinking Manta is going to be. I mean, how long are the lines to Superman: Ultimate Flight during the summer? Upwards of 2hrs. This is going to be bigger than those, the first Flyer in Florida, and a uniquely themed experience. The GP will drool over this when it comes out.

But to me it looks like it's going to be an overall fun ride, which is all that matters in my book.

lol just making sure...

^It must gives you a bit of amnesia as well.

The ride will also complete a S turn with an inline twist, something Maverick couldn't do.

I'm still curious about the wing dip effect and how that'll work, particularly if they are going to have a "splash" effect or just "slice" through the water.

I think the four inversions are pretzel (1), horseshoe element (2), inline twist (3), flatspin (4).

I'm surprised at all the complaining also. I mean, this is the 2nd biggest flyer ever built next to Tatsu. From what I'm hearing there are going to be some cool effects on this ride (flying behind waterfalls, getting within a few feet of water) this could end up being a very special ride. I'm hearing that it's going to have a very elaborate queue too.

If there's anything most of us should know as enthuiasts, it's that a bigger coaster doesn't mean a more intense one (I almost said "size doesn't matter", but I was worried about the "that's what she said jokes").

Another thing is it looks like it's going to be an *extreme* bank coming out of the pretzel, did anyone else notice the supports for that thing? It looks like the track will be 90 degrees through there.

Not that this matters, but the reason we have the following pictures...

We took a trip up to Knoxville, TN yesterday to see my partner's Brother/Sis-n-law and kids.

On the way home today about 2:30p, just a bit before Chattanooga, TN, low and behold, what do we see...

Yes, supports for Manta! Of course I got all giddy and fumbled for my Iphone to take a few picures. My other half was like - whatever - as I'm driving & trying to get the camera and all - I finally looked at him and said - TAKE the damn PICTURES!

Anyway... here ya go...

LOL! I think we can let that part of the rule slide being that it's been quite a few weeks since the contest started.

Let me talk to the powers that be at Sea World and we'll find out!

Unless someone else posts a track on truck picture, I think we *may* have a winner...I'll let you know!

Through a YouTube search (hoping a POV might have been posted, but to no alas) I stumbled upon the following two websites that ya'll might be interested in.

Manta watch

This site is (what appears to be) a construction worker's blog on the construction of Manta. There are a couple of videos on there, including a ride in the bucket when they were topping off the coaster.

Manta Construction

I believe this site is by the same person, but here he shows off on-site construction shots, from angles we haven't seen yet.
