robbalvey Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I'm actually ALL FOR THIS! I'm so sick of going into a ride like Haunted Mansion or Jungle Cruise where the spieler thinks they are the next greatest comedian and want to do their own version of the script and it's just completely stupid. They did this exact thing to the Jungle Cruise a few years ago, but I think even since then they've gotten a bit lax on it and the skippers ad-lib stuff. Personally, I would rather they go to a recorded spiel like they did on The Land Boat Ride. At least you know each ride will be the same and won't be ruined by some person who sucks at reading the script or thinks they are better than the script. And yeah, all of you who are making deal out of this are just fueling Jim Hill's fire. It's not a big deal. --Robb
DerekRx Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I don't know if I agree with his WDW closing theory, but I'm very impressed that he has already discovered the truth about people at such an early age. When I was 14, I only hypothesized that the entire world population was a bunch of idiots and probably would be the cause of the world's destruction. Took me at least until college to determine I was right.
mcjaco Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 ^ Exactly. I think I like the The Land boat ride more now, then I did with the CM's.
Alpenguy Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I really don't think that article was very well-researched or remotely devoid of sensationalism. Kinda like most of them... I'm also pretty sure the operating guide for the ride actually uses the common spiel, and there are a ton of other attractions that would require acting training long before HM if such a thing ever happened.
ginzo Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 ^ I haven't heard "blood red carpet," but have heard "wretched bodies." I heard "wretched bodies" 2 weeks ago when I was at Magic Kingdom. It wasn't a crucial component of the experience. I'd be fine with no spiel from the CMs at all.
ChrisFL Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 ^ Exactly. I think I like the The Land boat ride more now, then I did with the CM's. The Land is fine, but I can't imagine how Jungle Cruise would be without a skipper, it just wouldn't be the same.
twistedmickey Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I could just hear the new speil now.... "Welcome Ladies and Gentleman to the Haunted Mansion. Your Ghost Host will be meeting you soon. Quick reminder - Park closes at 9. Iluminations at Epcot is at 9. Wait times for Peter Pan is at 60 minutes. Enjoy your ride on your doom buggy. Souvenirs at end of ride."
UniversalGSHo22 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 ^ LMAO!! That made me laugh out loud!! Thank You!! I needed that!!!
socalMAN123 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Well, the CMs at Disneyland lines have never made anyone in my gallery elevator laugh. So I would be fine with this new scripted talk. The CMs never really added to my experience anyways, now if they did away with Master Gracey, I would slap them right on the cheek. ---Brent
Coasterlvr_nc Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Now I'd personally take this with a grain of salt, but my mom was watching TMZ just now and they brought up disney and the haunted mansion, they essentially said what jimm hill had stated, except that Disney had no intentions to script the CM's Again take this with a grain of salt cause i was hardly paying attention to it, and mightve heard wrong with that final statement.
ebl Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 They say our polar ice caps are melting away...seems people's sense of humor is doing the same thing. Eric
mavalasko Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 lol Geez.. how many people is this supposedly offending? 20 at most? Out of the millions that visit, losing 20 park visitors is almost nothing. I know Disney wants to satisfy all but my point is that if people don't like something that on an attraction, then they don't have to ride it --- nobody has a gun to their head, screaming and spitting at them to get on the damn ride. I mean its a few words of dialogue and if there is only a minority complaining, I'd say leave it.. it will just mean 20 people less to wait behind in the queue.
DATman Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 First, I have some doubt about this as it is Jim Hill. Seccond, even if it is true, it is not a big deal at all. It is TWO lines of dialogue. I don't see why anyone cares about two silly little lines. Sure the "dead center of the room" is a line that half the guests on the ride say with the op, I doubt they'll miss it that much either. I'm excited to see something fresh and perhaps even better than a line or two that a lot of us have come to enjoy.
gotdane Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I'm looking forward to this! I enjoyed seeing guests get a kick out of the "drag your bodies to the dead center" line, but the Imagineer describes this as something to "hear and see" and as a "plus" ...so I'm intrigued.
