King Kahuna was on its last leg, it had many problems, I'd be very interested to hear if it is removed this off season what Kennywood would do with the rides land. I say remove it this off season and add a traditional family ride to replace the King Kahuna. Then change the Volcano back to the Enterprise. Volcano Valley is dead.

Or, add a Hawaiian-themed family-friendly ride to replace it, and add some fog to volcano and that area, since that theme is a bit hard to remove with the volcano facade and all, unless they convert it to a martian theme or something to match the Disk-o nearby

Volcano would look impressive with a white/green/purple light package and a martian black/silver paintjob i think

As for where the Turnpike might return, that's a tough question. Maybe they could add it to Lost Kennywood next to Pitt Fall and the restrooms over there.

There has been talk for years about Kennywood's interst in purchasing an additional 14 acres of land to add to the park. I would not be surprised if the Turnpike was relocated to that location once that acquisition is complete.

I didn't realize last year was a while ago.

Anyway, this coaster looks like a lot of fun. Hopefully I'll get to kennywood sooner rather then later.

Yesterday I was able got to say good-bye to the Turnpike and got my last ride on it. Throughout the course of the ride there are some large trees with caution tape tied around them. I've been told that those are trees that will hopefully be saved. I'm so glad they are making the effort to preserve the entrance environment as best they can.

For the new coaster are they going over the entrance tunnel or moving anything around the entrance?

Like that path leading to the pavilions next to the turnpike.

That was one of my major concerns, the bottleneck this might cause upon entering the park from the tunnel. Also I understand from earlier that the pathway immediately to the left up the hill passed the Dodgem was to be closed if I am not mistaken??

If you guys haven't heard yet both the King Kahuna and Swing Around are up for sale on some website. There's links over at KP Connection.

Yeah that sucks. I really liked Swing Around and was hoping it would return someday like the Bayern Kurve. As for King Kahuna, I've never been on it, or a top spin in general for that matter. I keep saying that one of these years I will ride it, I'd better do so soon if it's still there next year.

Also, I guess season passes for 2010 are practically confirmed. In this article it says "This fall, Kennywood will begin offering season passes for the first time, Borman said."

I couldn't care less about King Kahuna, but I was hoping they would bring back Swing Around. Oh well, look on the bright side: WE'RE GETTING A NEW COASTER!

I think he means that quick jerk at the top. It's not THAT bad, but I still don't see why Morgan did that to begin with.

I rode Phantom's Revenge just a week ago. The only reason I even noticed the slight jerk was the trip report that was posted to the index soon after the park opened this year. Having never ridden the Phantom before the reprofiling, I really don't even find it worth draw attention to.

While it wasn't THAT bad, it's still cool knowing they listened...I was disappointed when I went through that transition. It's almost worse than Vortex's at Kings Island.

Worse than Vortex? not by any stretch of the imagination! That transition actually hurt. Maybe that was just because the OTSRs cut me off at the neck. Idk.

Honestly, i LOVE that little jerk at the top of hill 2, it kicks you out of your seat, BEFORE the steepening during the second drop, turning the whole thing into a free fall

Lets hope they can smooth it out without killing that insane air

And KK is fairly weak, as far as top spins are concerned, just so long as volcano stays i could care less

I totally agree. King Kahuna ran the mildest program I've ever experienced on a top spin. (I do hear that the Crypt at KI is even worse, though.)

Like I already said, it's not completely terrible, it's just an inconvenience that disappointed me. It's already been confirmed that they're fixing it for next year, so why discuss it anymore?

Which is why I said "ALMOST." Please read ALL of my posts and everything in them first.

I find it funny that enthusiasts could care less about the terrible jerk on the second hill, but you'd be surprised how many guest complaints the park has gotten for that one area of track. Not to mention the park does routine checks on that track because of these complaints. Just don't be surprised if some of this track is redone this offseason. From what I've heard, as many as five sections of the track could be replaced after the park closes.

Kennywood will finally get a new steel coaster, and a few years later, they'll take out the inversions and reprofile everything and make it a great coaster! Sweet! I'll schedule my trip for Summer of 2016...

LMAO! The only good inversion coaster they could ever have was wiped out in favor of the Steel Phantom to begin with!!!

I was at Kennywood again today. They really are moving along with construction, the turnpike has only been closed for two days and they already have most of the center rail disassembled.

In other news, Kennywood hired me!

Actually there's only been a little less than half of the track dissasembled...There' two large sections that still need ripping up (not including the loading area) but I'm gonna say it should all be taken apart by the end of the week. As for when all the signs and stuff are going to be taken down, I don't know but from what I've heard they want the entire rude clear by the start if Fright Nights.
