Actually mostly ever major park has changed over time. Look at pics of any park and they will look totally different. For me, Geauga Lake has changed dramatically. It went from a small picnic park with mabey 20 acers to almost 700 and it went from a small portion of the lake to being around the whole lake.

^^ not necessarily so. The best parks out there are the one's that have retained much of their original theming and atmosphere, like the Busch and Disney parks. And even some SF parks like OT and GAM still have much of the original park's charm still intact, with new additions that enhance what was already there.

I agree with the OP though, with the entrance being the lone exception, PGA looks and feels nothing like the original park. Used to be such a beautifully lanscaped, well-themed, well-rounded park. But now with all the original theming and park offerings gone, looks and feels more like a local carnival than anything else.

Magic Mountain is definitely a candidate. Though for the worse.

What used to be a beautiful park with a charming aura is now a roller coaster laden dump that has half its infrastructure looking like it was left as it was when it first opened in 1971.

Please, allow me to use visual aids:

Knott's also comes to mind. Though it's a no-brainer that any park seized by a corporation will always change drastically.

Carowinds - hardly looks anything like it did in 1973:

Dollywood has changed quite a bit over the years as well, having grown from a small tourist attraction in 1961 to a full park by the 1990s. (Changing names five times in the process!) However they tend to expand outwards rather than reworking what is already in place, so some of the older stuff is still around. The main entrance to the park has been relocated four times over the years as new areas have been added.

3 Words.....

Knott's

Berry

Farm

That thing has changed so much between when Xcelerator was built, to now. It's not too much of a very themed park anymore.....

Actually Knott's changed the most starting with Supreme Scream in Summer 1998 and followed by GhostRider a few months later. And what'dya know? Those were the first things Cedar Fair changed when they acquired the park. It was all downhill after that.

Six Flags Great America has changed a lot. But for the most part, the park has maintained its theme over the years. Though some rides are out of place such as Superman and V^2. Though V^2 could be fit to theme really easily because Tidal Wave was across from where V2 was.

Disney MGM Studios has changed quite a bit. But that is more for the better. And almost every new ride and attraction the park has had was extention while the backstage shrunk.

I believe that Kings Dominion suffered drastically when Paramounts took over. It lost its hometown park charm and turned into corporate nightmare. Everywhere you turned they were ramming the movies down your throat. I'm sorry, that is what Blockbuster is for, not the gift shops at the amusement park!!!!

I think SFOT becouse it used to have War Canoes, The Stage Coach, Skull Island, and the Parachute ride used to have stand up parachutes.

If only I could ride it with stand up baskets =( (SFOT-Source.com)

Thorpe Park has changed a lot over the last few years. I first visited in 1999, when the Shoot the Chutes ride was only a pile of dirt and the only coasters it had were X:\WTF and Flying Fish. They also had a small section with scale models of world landmarks and the park was poorly maintained.

Dorney Park. Before CF bought it had a lot of unique rides like Water Skooters, Journey To The Center of the Earth, The Rockets etc. and had a classic park feel to it. Then CF came in and tore out the classic rides, buildings and trees and put trash cans and concrete everywhere and tried to make it like a small Cedar Point. I do like the coaster additions since CF bought the park but wish they didn't have to destory the history of the park in the process.

CP has changed loads since my first visit in 1993. There actually used to be TREES! Before TTD was built, that little area where Chaos and Troika used to sit was a nice shady spot with lots of trees. Draggin' Iron used to blend in a lot better...both because of its lack of obnoxiously bright orange paint, and the fact that there were trees on the back side of the ride where TTD is.

Most people don't realize it, but CP lost not one, but TWO log rides in a 12-year period! I actually liked Mill Race better than WWL, it was only there the first time I visited the park, but you got a lot wetter on it than WWL. I was kinda disappointed to come back the next year and see Raptor in its place...I didn't get into coasters at ALL until about 2000.

They used to have remote-controlled boats that you could race around in the lagoon by Iron Dragon's last turnaround, I had a blast screwing around with those as a kid.

The whole Frontier area also looked a lot different before MF was built, the train tracks on that side used to be completely shaded and surrounded by trees, it was pretty cool. You'd leave the station, go into the woods, and come out back by Thunder Canyon and WWL. The Frontier Trail itself also used to be shaped differently before MF came along...the petting zoo was a lot quieter too before there was an Intamin giga right above it.

Jungle Larry! That guy was awesome, before Mantis was there he had a whole animal exhibit right in the center of the park. The exit was right by where Power Tower is now, and that little gift shop (It's TTD-themed now, used to be Power Station) was originally part of the exhibit.

Other random stuff...the Giant Wheel was cooler in its former location, Kid Arthur's Court had the COOLEST obstacle course ever and a kickass giant ball pit, I really miss the dolphin show and the aquarium, the kid's playground was cooler when it was Bearnstein Bear Country (they cut the top off the Spooky Old Tree! ), I have fond memories of pedaling my Swan Boat a little too close to the fountain and getting my mom soaked, the old set of bumper cars where TTD's tophat is now, IMAX > ice skating show, the Schwabinchen was one of my favorite flats, people actually used to wait in line for Mean Streak...I'm sure there's more.

Thorpe Park and Adventure Island.

Thorpe has an entirely new skyline since from when i was 3 when it used to be the pirate ship (now Mr Monkeys Banana Boat) and a bumper boat ride...

same for AI... it used to have one of the first enterprises where the pods would tilt to the 90* angle rather than using gravity... it got a few minor rollercoasters, then what appeared? Rage.

Chessington went down hill last year. The loss of the Samurai meant i had very little to go back for... Dragons Fury is always closed when i go

^Well im glad the park changed for the better. Sometimes when you see old pics of parks back in the day compared to more recent pics. your like WHOA! its not necessarily a bad thing, its just the park looks way different.

like PGA used to have some good theming..not so much anymore. And like someone said earlier about Knotts. Theming kind of fades away as time passes along.
