RollerC Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Which Screamin Swing models are better? The big ones(Swing Shot, Skyhawk) or the 4 seater models that you see at Knotts or Dorney? I would suspect that since the 4 seater version only has 4 seats, its alot lighter, therefore you get a bit more speed and airtime. Though the big models have alot of weight and reach higher points. I was curious because I wonder if the one at Dorney's is worth the money(I rode the one at Kennywood and Cedar Point BTW).
Sean Menefee Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I've been on Knott's and CP's version and didn't notice much of a difference. They're really fun rides, with a super short ride program.
SharkTums Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I've been on the I-Drive one, Knotts' and Thorpe's, also didn't really see a big difference.
YoshiFan Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I wish they upcharge ones had a longer cycle. The one at Dorney rarely has a line but I see people riding it (I guess just enough to run it without a line). They sometimes have buy 1 get 1 free days though. Maybe I'll try it this year.
robinschroder Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I <3 Screaming Swings ! Thorpe Park's Screaming Swing 'Rush' is my absolute favourite ride at the park (with Stealth coming a close second - sorry Intamin!). Great airtime plus a real 'I'm going to fall out of this restraint' feeling thanks to the restraints being designed to have a bit of 'play' in them once they're locked. Plus it's just so much fun to swing back and forth really fast! I rode the one at Knotts and loved that too and although my memory could be playing tricks on me, the Thorpe Park version seems to have a couple more swings back and forth in its cycle than the smaller Knotts one. Hats off to Stan Checketts for his ride design philosophy that says 'little children like to bounce up and down and swing back and forth, so lets make extreme versions to allow people to enjoy those sensations again'. I used to love my baby door bouncer back in the day, apparently (!) and I spent a lot of time on our garden swing growing up, so I guess that's why I like S&S's towers and swings so much! Robin

I honestly did nearly fall out!!! bloody fun though, full of floater airtime, but i was expecting extreme airtime, so a bit of a let down, although the peak angle is insane and i nearly lost my necklace lol. they really need to improve the cycle, if not open up both swings to improve throughput.
Nemesis Inferno Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Rush is good at Thorpie, but Detonator's better... Considering Rush is the only one I've done, I can't comment on the others, which are powered by motors are they not? Rather than compressed air? Or are the giant cyclinders we Thorpers have hidden elsewhere?
N8BGR8 Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I think that the one at Wild Adventures has got some good speed and airtime. However, since it is the only one ive been on, i have nothing to compare it to.
BarryH Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 The only Screaming Swing I've been on is at Thorpe Park. Most other places make it an upcharge ride. It's a fun ride, but I don't see a reason to pay extra $ for the ride.
Jayjay719 Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 The only Screamin Swing I've been on is at Lake Compounce, Thunder and Lightning. I think it's an awesome ride but I just wish the cycle was longer. But like Barry said, I don't see a reason for them being an upcharge attraction.
viking86 Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Ive only been on Rush at Thorpe Park and it was a nice, relaxing ride. It was fun, but it felt too controlled (like pretty much every non-coaster ride by S&S).But I would still go on it again, or any other SS....
crazyrider06 Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I've been on Thunder N' Lightning, i like it.. I agree with everyone though the cyles need to be longer
Guy T. Koepp Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Honestly, I love the screaming swings. I think they need to add some cool water elements. Some fountains that you swing through would be neat as well as a fountain that shoots up and you swing up into the water that is falling down on you. We also havn't seen one of these enclosed yet. With alot of effects and such. You could realy add an entirely new dimension to them. Just my two cents.
imbordisux Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 We've done three of them (Dorney, Lake Compounce, Kennywood), and they've definitely become our favorite flat. Sad the parks run such a short cycle, as the ride experience itself is phenomenal. Does anybody know if there's a reason for the short cycles? Is it possible that it's not up to the parks, but maybe has to do something with how much the air-tanks can hold or the machinery can handle? I mean, we know how much is involved in air-launching a coaster, maybe a longer ride-cycle would mean that the air-tanks would have to be made larger, making them impractical? We both think the sensations felt while riding are flat-out amazing, though there definitely is a small feeling of disappointment due to the short ride-time. As for your question, I really didn't notice any difference between the lower- and higher-capacity versions, and we both feel that a small fee ($5 at Dorney) is well worth it.
sfmman2000 Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Yeah, it's almost as if the cycle is so short that CF didn't decide on that. But thats just my guess. Do the non-CF owned Screamin Swings also have such a short cycle?
saxman47 Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Kennywood's cycle is decently lengthy; I know it is longer than SkyHawk but I'm not sure about the other CF swings.
verticalzero Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I have never been on a "Screamin Swing", The nearest one to me is "Rush" at Thorpe Park. I just don't see myself getting the ride name when the arm is at full height, I tend to go dizzy if I get a rush to much. I'll stick to Woodies and Steelies coasters.
PKI Jizzman Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I have only been on Skyhawk at CP...great ride...but its like...what? 45 second cycle? It had good airtime, but it was just to short of a ride to really make it stand out.
