Axman Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Six Flags Great America, pre-Six Flags. Right-O! The larger sky ride was called the Southern Cross, which was built in 1977, only one year after the park opened. It started next to Orleans Orbit, and went out to where Raging Bull is now. A second station for the ride was planed for the new "Great Southwest" area of the park for 1979. Unfortnately, the Great Southwest plan fell through, and the Southern Cross existed it's whole life with just one station. Without a second station, the Southern Cross's main purpouse deteriated, and led to the ride's demise. Even though a Southwest themed area did eventualy emerge at GA in 1996, the Souther Cross was long gone, having since been removed in 1982. There's a lot more great pictures of Southern Cross (as well as a complete representation of early Marriot's Great America) here There's lots to be seen in these pictures, including shots of the Sky Wheel, several other defunct rides, and the Turn of the Century before and after the Demon remodel. Oh, and BTW, the other park with a 2nd overlaping sky ride was Six Flags Over Georgia Here's the full picture.
Axman Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Lets try this one. What does this look like to you?
Axman Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Nope. Spin Out had a much more lush surroundings. I do miss these rides. They used to eveywhere, and now their almost all gone.
CP_RULES Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Six Flags St. Louis. That's definitely not Tom's Twister. If I remember correctly Tom's was brown and red.
astroworldfan1 Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Lets try this one. The big blue Rotor was the Barrel of Fun at Six Flags Astroworld. That was easy!
DBru Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Okay, I know its' not right, BUT, Ghost Town in the Sky?
astroworldfan1 Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Fantasy Fling? Six Flags Great Adventure?
speedracer Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Six Flags Magic Mountain. Just to end the guessing, you're right, was called Electric Rainbow before being Gothamized in the 90's.
astroworldfan1 Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 The ride is called Yummy Yummy Fruit Salad at Six Flags Great America?
speedracer Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 ^^ Dream World. Correct again. Out of courtesy, if you're posting a pic, should commit to checking this thread more often. Just leaving it for people to keep guessing even when the right answer gets posted is a bonafide thread killer.
Electerik Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 So, according to my own profile, this is the thread I'm most active in. I guess I must like it. Where this be?
Electerik Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 ^ And you would be right. Care to post a mysterious picture, now?
